Some things don't need to be improved. This kettle, identical in every way to the one we had when I was a kid, is simply a classic. Perfect in every way.
Regarding the negative remarks--- I wonder what other appliances they have that don't operate by pushing a button???! Everything about this little work-horse is good. I would make the suggestion that when it whistles, take it OFF the heat, immediately. The handle gets hot quickly if the boiling point is reached and the kettle is left to boil. I have not experienced the sputtering or spilling described by the nay sayers. But again,...I would say that it has the usual reaction of any kettle if you pour too fast immediately off very high heat. So far it is a real helper, looks nice on my stove top, and functions very well. Thank you for offering Revere Ware. Five stars from me!
It is very well constructed and it has a strong and loud whistle that I can hear on another floor of the house. The whistle is built in to the kettle so it won't fall out unlike my previous kettle where it was glued on and eventually fell off.
On my gas stove on high this boils 4c water in 7 minutes. This is only seconds faster than my older kettle (I raced them) but it keeps the heat better and so is much faster if water is reboiled within a few hours.
Despite the "stay cool" handle, it does get uncomfortably warm if a full pot of water is boiled but it is again better than my previous kettle. There is a catch on the spout which keeps it open allowing you to easily use a pot-holder if the handle is too warm. You can actually see the catch in the picture if you look closely but it isn't in the written description so it was a surprise to me. I like the catch but it might be a con for people who are prone to forgetting they put the kettle on. If you forget to drop the catch you don't get the whistle.
There has been slight corrosion of the copper but this is normal in all my copper bottomed cookware. If I was diligent with the copper polish like my grandmother tried to teach me to be I'm sure it wouldn't have occurred. The stainless steel is very easy to keep clean (much more so than the brushed aluminium I had in the past).
Overall the kettle isn't absolutely perfect but it is fantastic and I would buy it again without question.
I bought the Analon, which had no reviews, but looked oh-so-pretty. It is so heavy I need both hands to just lift it, when it is not filled with water! The snazzy squeezable handle that operates the spout barely opens and it is awkward to use. The whistle is almost non-existant, and the water takes forever to boil. It makes the tea preparation process a chore, not a joy.
Having learned my lesson and scouring these pages for reviews of good kettles, I decided to buy this model again. After all, it is the kettle that could perform on all the necessary levels. Tried and true.
Amazon ought to enable a "last 12 months only" feature on ratings-- just because it used to be a great product five (ten, whatever) years ago doesn't mean it still is.
Lost my old 80's kettle, and ordered this one a few months ago. It was OK, though obviously flimsier than the made in USA version. In just a few months, though, the whistle/trigger has warped and no longer works. What does it cost the company put a whistle on these, per piece? A few cents? They should have spent an extra five cents per whistle and put a decent one in the kettle. As is, it's like they designed them to fail quickly.
Cough. Do they think by making them so they break every few months that people will buy another kettle from Revereware? I don't consider a kettle an annual purchase. A tea drinker likes to have a reliable kettle. Is that too much to ask? If they still made the high quality kettles they used to make, I would happily have paid $50 for it. But obviously, they don't.
The only way I'll buy another Revereware kettle is if I find an old one in a thrift store that is worth having. These are junk.
