Product Description
Quickly and safely cut fruits, vegetables, nuts and more with the OXO Good Grips Chopper. Use the Chopper directly on your favorite cutting board or with the included easy-measure cup. Simply place your ingredients inside the cup and press down on the non-slip knob to chop. A tab rotates inside the container to keep food from sticking to the sidewalls, while the built-in bumper absorbs shock and reduces noise. Scoop out chopped ingredients with the included spoon, or snap the lid on to save for later. The wave-pattern blade cartridge easily unscrews for quick cleanup, and the knob locks in closed position for simple storage. BPA-free. Removable blade is dishwasher safe.

Customers are mixed about the ease of use of the food slicer. Some mention that it does a reasonable job of chopping up nuts, while it chops most vegetables with ease. It is quick and easy for clogging a handful of almonds, pecans, walnuts, brazils, and hazelnuts. However, others say that it's hard to chop with it, the item needs to be a bit chopped prior to being placed in the receptacle, and the blade is sharp. That said, some say that the product limits the amount you can chop and the speed you can get.

Customers are mixed about the size of the food slicer. Some mention that it does not take up much room, has a locking top for more compact storage, and is tiny. Others say that the chamber is way too small for the diameter of your typical onion, and that the pieces are not consistent size.
"...note it took a minute to get all the parts apart and the 'lid' on the bottom was tight until I had taken it off a few times...." Read more

"...that hard but based on cut quality and small cutting chamber, not worth it at all. The onion didn’t cut through on a few pieces...." Read more
"...Purchase it, it's worth every penny!" Read more
"...Overall not worth the money. Just invest in some nice knives or an actual food processor." Read more
Customers are mixed about the appearance of the food slicer. Some like the design and look of the chopper, saying it's very nice. However, others say that it'll barely cut onions, has dull blades, and feels cheap and flimsy.
"...This guy saves tons of time when prepping. Its design is almost perfect, especially the base, which is a measuring cup and comes with a silicone..." Read more
"...The design is poor. It's not as safe to wash the blade unit as it was with the other brand I owned...." Read more

Customers are dissatisfied with the stickiness of the food slicer. They mention that the mechanism keeps getting stuck, the chopper gets stuck, and the blade does not stay locked in. Some say that pieces became stuck inside and had to be pried out before continuing. Additionally, the plunger gets stuck and the cartridge and the guard do not stay in the plunge.
"...The little spatula doesn't lock on. (But at least it exists, and won't scratch the plastic.)" Read more
"...the blades (called the "stripper" in the instructions) falls out of the chopper body when I remove the chopper body from the cup after chopping...." Read more

Other reviewers have complained about the amount of dis-assembly necessary to clean it. I found it fairly easy and I liked how thoroughly the unit cleaned up in the dishwasher.
My only complaint is the relatively small amount one can chop at a time (1/4 onion, 1 quartered carrot, etc.) -- and this is the 'large' chopper. They have another smaller one for herbs. I would prefer if it were larger, but it works so well that even doing several small batches doesn't take much time.
I'll have to use it for a awhile to be able to comment on Good Grips Chopper's longevity --- but so far, it's very promising.
Pros:
1) It's easy to clean if you rinse it immediately after use. I don't put anything sharp in the dishwasher because it dulls the edge, so I handwash this as well.
2) It stays together better than the Zyliss (especially recently!).
3) It's more ergonomic, so my hand doesn't get quite so tired.
4) It chops more evenly inside the cup than the Pampered Chef IF you shake it kinda vigorously about 2/3 of the way through the process. The built-in scraper blades keeps herbs, etc., from clinging to the sides as you chop. There's a tiny spatula included which get the little bits off easily. I recommend keeping that elsewhere, though, because it doesn't lock onto the chopper and I know I'd lose it.
5) It's still noisy, but I think not quite as noisy as the Pampered Chef one - mostly because I find it easier to chop *inside* it because of the built-in scraper blades.
6) I like that the base has a separate cap for storage, though I haven't used it.
7) I like the measurements on the chopping chamber, though it's really only useful for when it's used for storage - can't chop with it when it's full up!
Cons:
1) The gasket which holds the chopping surface on can be a little tight to remove and put back on.
2) The little spatula doesn't lock on. (But at least it exists, and won't scratch the plastic.)
Like all OXO products, it is well made and seems sturdy. The blade did a good job of chopping the vegetables. As one commenter noted, however, you will have to chop the vegetables into small chunks to fit them inside the small transparent cup.
I plan to use the chopper (if I don't toss it) for celery, shallots, and similar kinds of items.
I have never owned a chopper before and so can't comment about this chopper in comparison to similar products. I do like the OXO brand, however, and was surprised to discover that this item has been disappointing.
UPDATE: Since writing the comment above, I discovered that the base with black rubber seal is easy to remove if I run it under very hot water and then punch the base lightly to push it out of the transparent cup. « Show Less

The only thing to watch for is the 'locking' out of the blades. If you are slapping (you have to hit it with a decent amount of force like the oldies seen on TV' Slap-Chop)...and handle rotates even a slight amount the blades will lock in the down position - which is great for cleaning it, which is deliberate. BUT. You have to be careful how you hit it and careful NOT to rotate the 'handle' (the thing you are slapping). Works GREAT and I used my old Slap Chop so much it broke. This one is a lot better designed inside and seems to be a lot more durable. Just watch the rotation of the handle while shopping. I think it works great and I am an experienced Slap Chopper. (My wife hates the thing... LOL!) I love it. But if you are dicing for a large stew - better to use a knife. We use this for pizza and mainly for onions and for garlic for other dishes. I would not put carrots in this and never put them in the other one I had either as they are to hard to chop.
