The product arrived completely broken
The hand truck arrived with its one side completely cracked open and detached. I didn't have time to unpack it due to leaving on a business trip and when I got to it, it was too late to return. In any case, I don't recommend buying it.

A few key points on this hand truck:
1. There were several complaints about very strong odor?? Almost none with mine! No more odor than with any typical new order. Maybe others were different.
2. Cart is light weight but strong.
3. Wheel system is very good. Typical hand truck and the pneumatic tires are great. As a push cart. Swapping the handle around to the vertical position entails pulling two pins, remove and replace handle to vertical position and re-insert the pins. Pins are slightly difficult to remove, with emphasis on slightly. Back tires are hard phenolic type, but large enough to make the cart functional in this mode.
4. The stair assist is an inexpensive solution to what I have seen before. On much more expensive carts, there is a belt on pulleys on either side to help on stairs. With this there is simply a relatively wide flat plastic surface that is literally part of the frame of the cart. It simply has been made wider and shaped / positioned such that is easy to bear the weight of your load on the edge of the stairs. On carpeted stairs this will work perfectly. On wood or metal edged stairs, I would put something like a moving pad or strip of carpet on the tread to make it both slide easier and not mar the edge of the tread (or in the case of a metal edge, chew up the frame of the cart). Keeping the relatively low cost of this cart, this is a great solution.
5. There are no integral straps (as on some more expensive carts), but plenty of locations to easily use your own straps.

Summary - If I were in the furniture moving business, I would have at least one expensive cart that had "regular stair climbers" and integrated belts. But for the regular homeowner / business person (as well as supplemental carts for movers), this cart is great!!!

What some of the others said about the odor from the tires is very true. Even after a month in the garage, it could not be stored inside the house overnight. After three months the odor seems to have diminished somewhat, but I would still not keep it inside for any extended period. I haven't noticed any odor in the garage however. I can believe that just bringing this home in a car could make one sick, as one other reviewer suggested, so ordering online can avoid that unpleasant scenario. As with most products sold on amazon, the price does fluctuate, so it pays to be patient to get this at a good price. Update: After a few more months, the odor indoors has largely diminished to the point where it is hardly noticeable for a few hours, but it still goes to the garage for storage.

As for functionality, the large wheels do make it possible to haul heavy items up the stairs. Also, I was able to carry an upright digital piano with amazon-recommended nylon straps easily around the house, alone. Carried an almost three hundred pound headboard up over a couple of steps with "relative" ease alone in the upright position.

Update: After 3 years, I have used this a number of times. About once a year the tires need to be filled with air. The functionality offered by this is great. After some time, the tires do not emit any noticeable odor like it did at first. I would suggest storing it outside or in the garage for an extended initial period until it fully off-gasses.

The first time my hubby used the hand truck, he had a difficult time converting it to the horizontal position. He discovered that to remove the handle you need to pull in one continuous quick motion until the handle is totally removed. If you stop during this process, you can't get the handle started again & have to pound the handle back into the beginning position. When he tried to re-insert the cotter pins, the handle wouldn't go in far enough to line up the two holes; he pounded it with a rubber mallet to get the handle in far enough to line up the holes. He hopes this process will get easier as he continues to use the hand truck.

We're getting older now, & lugging bags of mulch all over the yard can be exhausting & if you have Parkinson's Disease, it's even worse. My hubby has been using the 40611 in the horizontal position to move the heavy bags to the area they're needed.

He also has been using it to move several boxes of ceiling tile to a room we're remodeling. We've moved heavy furniture with it too. He purchased some straps locally to use with the hand truck.

We decided on this model because it is designed to be used with steps. We're not sure if we will like the pneumatic tires, but so far there's been no problem with them.

So far we're pleased with the 40611. We had been using a lighter weight hand truck which broke after about 4 uses. We're hoping the 40611 will last. So far it's proven to be very dependable.

I will update my review if my opinion changes.

The dolly is good for lighter stuff, but the stair climbers just don't do the trick for anything super heavy -- Trying to remove a refrigerator up just a single step is impossible. I'd recommend buying something a grade up if you plan on ever moving anything that heavy.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent quality and exceeded expectations

Well Designed, very versatile, excellent quality and exceeded expectations. Definitely heavy duty and yet light enough compared to all steel versions. I recently did an apartment move, some construction work and this guy came in real handy, all those who used it were very impressed. You may want to buy yourself some ratcheting straps and bungees for heavy or light loads to keep everything in place. I highly recommend this product.
