RoadTrip LXE Grill

Need a portable grill for tailgating, barbecuing or camping?

For the past 17 years, Coleman has been perfecting the portable grill that performs as well as its full-size backyard cousin. Enter the RoadTrip LXE, which sits on a wheeled stand, folds flat so you can pop it in your car’s trunk, and has a low-profile lid that won’t take up much storage space.

EASY, QUICK SETUP

Lift

Place foot on plastic towing handle. Grasp metal handle on grill and lift until stand is fully extended.

Lock

Lower grill and slide back until leg extensions lock into brackets on bottom of grill stand.

Slide

Grasp hold of side tables under the grill and slide each one out until fully extended. Do not operate the grill with side tables in storage position.

Light

Lift the lid before firing up the grill. Any attempt to light the grill with the lid down could cause an explosion.

Can this grill hook up to a larger propane tank?

The LXE grill as sold is set up to use a 1-pound disposable propane cylinder. To attach a 20-pound refillable tank, you will need a Coleman 5 Ft. High-Pressure Propane Hose and Adapter.

What comes in the box?

The LXE grill, wheels, towing handle, regulator, wrench, and instructions are included in the box. The disposable propane cylinder is available for purchase separately.

Which grill or griddle does the LXE come with?

The LXE comes with 2 SwapTop grilling halves. Additionally, a half griddle, full griddle, and half stove grate are available for purchase and are fully interchangeable with the 2 provided.

Is it safe to store this grill in my garage?

The LXE is strictly for outdoor use but may be stored indoors. If storing inside, detach the propane cylinder while outdoors. If storing outside, remove the cylinder and use a patio cover (sold separately) to protect from the elements.

My flame isn't getting hot enough anymore. What could be the cause?

You may have a blockage in the grill’s venturi tubes. To ensure full heat output, inspect and clear out any obstructions, such as spider webs, in these tubes once or twice a month. Consult your manual for detailed cleaning steps.

Take the convenience, efficiency, and versatility of the household barbecue grill on the road this summer with the clever Roadtrip Grill LXE from Coleman. Whereas other portable liquid propane grills are petite and tabletop in design, the Roadtrip LXE is a full-size grill with collapsible scissor legs for countertops or travel. This 36-inch grill features 285 square inches of cooking space, ideal for toting to the beach or just into the driveway a small block party. Two 10,000 BTU burners cook meats evenly. Independent control knobs allow users to adjust temperatures on either burner for flexibility.

The grill comes equipped with two warp-resistant cast-iron grill grates, coated in porcelain for cleaning convenience. Two side tables attach to the grill's sides for extra preparation space and store neatly under the grill. A grease tray catches drippings, sliding out for cleaning. The grill is outfitted with an Instastart electronic ignition. The grill affixes to a standard 16.4-ounce disposable propane cylinder, or can be hooked up to a 20-pound tank with an additional accessory purchase. Burning on high with a propane cylinder, the grill operates for 2.1 hours, while low settings allow operation for up to 4.5 hours. A heavy-duty vitreous lid cased in painted steel contains flames to reduce hazard while barring access to bugs and debris. The collapsible legs feature two wheels on one end and a wide handle on the other for towing. To clean the cooking surface, use mild detergents and avoid steel wool. Coleman offers several interchangeable Roadtrip cooking surfaces, including a stovetop and griddle, for separate purchase. This grill requires assembly. Coleman offers a limited five-year warranty for this item. Collapsed, the grill measures 36 by 22 by 13 inches with a shipping weight of 60 pounds. Propane is not included. --Jessica Reuling

Coleman Road Trip Grill Review - Great Quality in a Small Grill
I got this great little gas grill for our smallish deck. We like a small grill, but all the smaller grills are usually crappy quality. I love that this one has nice cast iron grates, and that it takes these little portable tanks instead of that giant big gas container. We have used it so far three or four times and still have gas.We generally do not cook giant meals, just burgers, and hotdogs and stuff like that. This grill fits our needs very well, but be aware that if you are going to keep it outside like we do that you will need a cover because if it rains the cover does not completely cover the grill and your grill will fill up with water. I am guessing over time it will mean you need a new grill! I just ordered the cover for this grill. The grill is super easy to put together. All you have to do is snap on the end with the wheels and attach the wheels. Then put the thing that attaches the gas canister and the gas can. You have to screw the thing onto the gas container and then attach it to the grill. I did have to do it twice because I did not get it connected just right I guess, because when I first turned it on I was not getting any gas. Then I sort of gave it a little push on before tightening and it worked great. You can tell the gas is connected when you turn the burner on and you hear a little hiss from the gas.To turn on each burner you turn the gas on to high and then and then press the red button to cause a spark to make it light. I will say that the button is a bit awkward. You have to press it pretty hard so you have to hang on to the grill and push or you will push the entire grill. It would be nice if they had a lip on it so you could hold that in your fingers and then press the button with a thumb. Anyway it was not hard to light and we had no problems. The instructions told us to take the thing apart and check the venturi tube or whatever. That was not happening! It was confusing to know what they were even talking about until you paged forward a few pages and it showed you more what they were talking about. I think they should have just put that under trouble shooting because I do not know who is going to take something apart to see if something is put together right. The grill grates are awesome and have a solid area in the center which is great for things you are worried might fall underneath. The heat is definitely stronger in the center by the flames and the grate heats up to give us great grilled burgers and dogs. It also is nice for grilled veggies that won't get lost. I also love that the grill has a lip around the edge, to prevent hotdogs from rolling off the grill if you are not exactly level. Also the grill grates are two pieces that you can just lift off when it's cooled and bring in the house to wash with soapy water right in the sink. Super easy. The other nice thing is that with a small meal you might only need to use one side.Someone mentioned putting foil under the grill to keep it clean. This is a great idea, but we did not do it. Probably should have but I really wanted to start grilling so we did not, but I think it would be a great idea. There is a good size drip pan to catch grease that falls below. Make sure to let it completely cool off before you try to empty it so it congeals otherwise it will spill and make a mess. The other thing I love about the grill are the little side tables that I can pull out if I need one or both and then put them back so the grill does not take up as much room when I am not using it.We got the red grill and I love the color. I got it because it was the lowest cost and since I am going to have it covered when it's not in use it just does not really matter, but I do think the red color is pretty cute.We leave the gas on the grill when we are not using it and it does not stick out that far and stays secure.Love this grill and hope to get a few years out of it. Nice that it will fold down easily to store in the garage over the winter. For what we paid I will give this 5 stars even with a few limitations. I can not beat the value for $127Thanks for reading my reviewBecky Brooks
