Were I to rate this based on what I expected, it would be 5 stars all the way, but instead I'll rate it based on overall quality, and review it for people who have never used electronic card shufflers.
Universally speaking (great Red Hot Chili Peppers song), battery-operated card shufflers under the several-hundred dollar vegas-style quality feel a bit cheap, and have a tendency to leave a few cards on the side about 10-15% of the time, and this one is no different. I bought this shuffler because it's just me and my wife playing cards at home, and she has small hands so it's just me shuffling over and over (we play heads up texas hold 'em, and I play tight, so we play a few dozen hands an hour and I'm tired of shuffling!!!).
Even so, it's not really any faster than shuffling by hand, so I still end up doing it manually. The biggest reason I'm still rating it a 4/5 is that I would love to use this for games that require shuffling several decks together, as it is much faster than I am at shuffling a lot of decks at a time. It does still throw some cards on the side every once in a while, but not enough to bother me.
Long story short, if you're looking for professional card-playing quality shufflers, battery powered like this is not the way to go, but it does work well for playing at home with several decks, and "messes up" a small enough percentage of the time that as long as you expect it for the price you pay, it shouldn't be a deterrent.
Exactly what I expected, and would recommend this to someone looking for a shuffler that knows what to expect from the quality.
1 and 1/2 thumbs up.
The reality is far from the truth. My box arrived with signs it was opened, used and broken. The only honesty was there was a note attached to inform the item had a broken piece. It was built cheap. When I say cheap, it felt cheap, very cheap in fact. Forget the warranty since sending it back will cost more than buying this in the first place.
Put the recommended 4 C batteries in and only 1 side will work instead of both sides to enable proper shuffling. The cause of this was a broken wire inside to 1 side of the shuffler motor.
Opened up the shuffler, carried out repairs, tweaked a few components, put it all back together and viola! It works again, and fun to watch.
Summary: Expect to carry out repairs to improve this product's function, performance and usability. If you are prepared to do this, then go ahead and get yourself one of these cheap toys. Otherwise, don't bother parting with your money to buy yourself an undeserved heartache.
I would like to give this a 5 star but I just found out one of the shufflers I ordered in May and the last one this month, does not work properly.
It will not feed the cards through evenly. One side feeds through twice as many as the other side. We have tried cleaning the rollers with alcohol and it helped but did not fix it.
