The 5007MGA features a Makita-built 15 AMP industrial motor that delivers 5,800 RPM, combined with well-balanced magnesium components for a lighter weight saw that delivers true power the professional user demands. The saw has a large cutting capacity (2-1/2 inches at 90°) with a maximum bevel capacity of 56° and positive stops at 22.5° and 45° for quick back-and-forth changes. The 5007MGA includes an electric brake to stop the blade quickly for maximum productivity.
Ergonomic and Ease-of-Use
Features Magnesium components allowed Makita to engineer a saw with less weight (10.1 pounds) that is well-balanced and jobsite tough. Additional design details include greater clearance between the rear handle and the blade case to provide a better grip for larger hands or for users with gloves, as well as a wider space between the blade and housing for a clearer view of the blade and measurement scale. The saw features twin L.E.D. lights for better illumination, as well as ducting designed to blow dust away from the line of cut. Makita also engineered ergonomics and ease-of-use into the saw, including clearly visible depth and bevel markings and ergonomic hand grips to improve overall control while minimizing operator fatigue. The large rubberized levers provide quick, one-handed adjustments for more efficient work.
Includes Ultra-Coated Framing Blade
The 5007MGA includes a Makita 7-1/4-Inch Premium Ultra-Coated Framing Blade with Advance Tooth Design. The "M" shaped tooth design features a two-pointed tip and two 10° bevel faces to maximize cutting performance for a faster, cleaner and longer lasting cut. The carbide tips are specifically set to withstand the harshest conditions such as plowing through nail-embedded wood. The blade is also ultra-coated to reduce heat and pitch build-up for faster, smoother cutting, with special Makita heat vents strategically set to dissipate heat and increase performance. The 5007MGA also include a blade wrench attached to the saw for fast and convenient blade changing.
Engineered for a Range of Applications
The 5007MGA is built for framing walls, floors and roofs using a range of dimensional lumber and dense engineered lumber, including LVL, PSL and I-Joists, headers, and microlams; as well as ripping panels such as plywood, OSB, particle board, and dense structural panels. Other applications include plunge and bevel cutting, as well as masonry and metal cutting. The 5007MGA is just another example of Makita's commitment to innovative technology and best-in-class engineering.

Just buy it, now. This beast is amazing.
Why?
+ The magnesium base plate is not going to flex, ever.
+ Nice big comfortable controls for setting depth & miter angle, with micro adjustment on the angle.
+ Pre-set miter angles.
+ Easy to read scales for cutting depth, cutting angle, and offset.
+ LED illumination of the cutting area so you can always see what you're doing.
+ 2-stage power switch means it turns on when, and only when, you intend it to do so.
+ The butter smooth soft-start means it's always steady in your hands.
+ The electric brake (~5sec) means by the time you're ready to set it down it is safe to let go of it.
+ Easy access blade lock. No more jamming a screw driver between saw teeth to change the blade.
+ It's not light, but the balance is great and the cushioned handles make it easy and comfortable to hold.
+ Having a blade included didn't matter to me, but the one it came with is brilliant.
+ Hard case is included, so its ~$30 higher price point from competitors is a wash since you have to buy a hard case separately with others.
+ It's a Makita.
+ It's blue AND green. At the same time!
Negatives? Not really, but...
- It is hefty, but very well balanced (see above)
- Tapered left edge of the base plate. This was necessary to accommodate the larger depth adjustment lever, and there's still more than enough edge parallel to the blade to keep fenced cuts straight.
- I didn't buy this 5 years ago.
I looked at the DeWalt and chose the Makita based on the reviews and my past history with Makita tools and I am glad I did. The saw is very sturdy and well-built and cuts smoothly and never wanders probably due to the well crafted foot plate. The reviews here are accurate so I am not going to say much more but instead affirm their points:
1) Hard case does indeed force you to "tuck-in" the cord against the case at the rubber strain relief at the handle.
2) Not much blade storage in the case (maybe 1?).
3) LED light at cutting point is fantastic addition...line and cut are always in view.
4) Dust evacuation away from cut is very effective.
5) Electric brake a great safety addition.
6) Magnesium frame makes this saw light yet has a very sturdy feel that gives it very accurate cutting properties.
Compared to my Skil saw, the Makita is a Boeing 767 and the Skil is a Cessna 172! I waited too long to replace it. Although I wanted a laser, after using the one on the Skil saw I came to realize that you will get far more accurate cuts if you draw a line and/or use a fence or guide. The laser on a circular saw is almost worthless if you can't adjust it...it is far better to have a clear view of the blade and the foot guide and have lighting and dust evacuation at the cutting point.
The Makita is a delight to use and dare I say makes projects "fun"? By the way, the stock blade is very good quality and I don't plan on replacing it with a Freud blade until it gets dull.
Looking at the Makita you can tell that the designers and engineers put some thought into it- it's not just a basic hammer-like power tool like the Milwaukee; instead the Makita has well thought out, almost sexy, "extra" detailed features for the user. The base is cast and has a nice thick lip on the blade side- the Milwaukee is stamped from ~.12" alum. All the levers on the Makita have nice rubber grips on them; the quick stops on the bevel adjustment on the Makita is also a great feature. Sure, you don't need these little features, but it shows that someone was thinking about more than mounting motor on a plate. The Milwaukee is the Chevy Malibu; the Makita is the Lexus; either will get the job done, but the Makita is a nicer tool. Oh, and this Lexus is unfortunately made in China, but the quality is perfect.
The saw has plenty of power and is as safe as any other saw so ignore the one bad review here wrt safety. The brake stops the blade in about half the time as my old B&D with no brake: ~3 seconds vs 6 (just counting off).
Negatives: As others have stated, the case is too small- you have to kink the cord at the strain relief which is not a good idea- the case needs to be 3" longer. The rip fence is too short to be of much use; this is ironic because the space for it in the case will accomodate a fence almost 2" longer. Fix those two things and it's perfect. It's odd that with all the detailed design put into the saw they missed glaringly obvious poor features on the case and fence. The case could also use some additional blade storage space although it's fine for at least two spare blades (all I have).
