The watering can I received might have been an older model as the rosette is removable. I see that some of the newer ones are not. The can has been outside in the sun since June (it is now December and I'm still using it for my winter garden -- we live where temperatures rarely get below freezing). and it has held up perfectly with no leaks, no problems with taking off or replacing the rosette (although I did find out that spiders seem to like to living in the spout near the rosette which was a bit of a shock). It is rather heavy and feels very durable. I was actually looking for the larger 3-gallon version, but I'm glad I didn't find it because this one is about all I can handle these days. I really like the rustic look, too. I find this to be a very practical purchase as it is much tougher than several smaller, flimsier galvanized metal cans I purchased before I found this one. I would definitely buy this again.
So I now have a ball valve, one of the cheap plastic ones from the hardware store on it, and I can control the flow down to a trickle. The rosette head will not spin back on to the ball/shut-off valve but now I can adapt any implement or head that has a standard hose fitting to this can! (See the picture I attached) This versatility is exactly what I wanted. Behrens doesn't offer it but they should. I am always going beyond what stuff was made for.
Keep in mind I used a plastic fitting, I would not try to force a metal fitting on it for fear of messing up the original threads on the can. And if your head leaks after taking it off, just use a thread sealant like pipe tape or pipe dope. Plumbers silicone grease might even work.
Also, the label comes off very easily with standard adhesive removal solvent.

I bought this can because I wanted steel and was tired of Asian made plastic junk which is all the stores seem to sell these days. I may have been able to get this at the farm store...you know, the one that says it "supplies Tractors"? That's where I get my galvanized metal buckets and such. But, I love Amazon shopping.
So I got a fairly decently built MEXICAN made product...so at least it was the "continent" of American made!
I am perplexed by some of the reviews of poor finish quality and sharp edges. This is a rugged old school style watering can. Like from back in the days when people knew how to not cut themselves on metal! I have zero complaints on finish and safety. This is what old school solid construction looks like. Go buy the plastic junk if metal edges and galvanizing runs scare you.
So only 4 stars because the head removal is not clear, as you can tell by many questions and reviews here. It absolutely is removable. I emailed Behrens and at first they told me it was not designed to be removable and the replacement heads were sold in case one leaked. Of course that was a contradictory statement and it's silly that Behrens would answer like this. I wrote back and said, "OK, so if my can spout leaked, how would I replace it?". They wrote back and said "What you could do, is use some type of tool, such as a pliers, to loosen up the rosette head. There is a double sealant, on the head, to prevent it from leaking."
I used a large slip joint pliers opened/adjusted to the large "joint", put that right on the threads with judicious pressure and the head spun right off.
Behrens would do themselves well to visit Amazon once in a while and be clear about this kind of stuff. They let the community sit out here and twist in the wind with poor consumer driven answers about their products. They should have nipped this in the bud. So, unfortunately I have to charge them 1 star off of what is a 5 star product for lax customer service and their customer service not having a crystal clear vision of their product.
The only other disappointment for me is the sprinkle pattern of the head is really wide, so it's not good for small water situations like small pots or in my case, my entire garden is covered in black weed matting. I need to direct water into the splits of the fabric at the point where the plants are rooted. Now that I can remove the head though...I can direct a solid stream if I want.
I plan to buy at least one more head (hopefully it will fit properly) and customize different sprinkle patterns by closing some holes and drilling new ones. If you do this you need to re-seal wherever you broke the coating and exposed the steel. See below about long term maintenance. Holes can be closed by driving very tiny screws in to them with a battery drill. I will try to use stainless screws but galvanized or other coated screws would work.
I'll report back with any problems.
Oh, also, when I took the head off I noticed what appears to be the beginning of rust on the inside where you wouldn't see it when on the can. I suggest occasionally spraying these spots with a clear acrylic spray paint or even the galvanizing paint periodically for long term maintenance and longevity of the product. If you do this, it should last a very long time.

I have always appreciated the look of galvanized with a great spangle. Sometimes when the spangle looks to good it is a coating rather than being galvanically attached. As best i can tell, this is a real piece of galvanized. The handle is well secured and gives no indication of movement full or empty.
The seller was equally nice and when i first contacted them regarding the drip were helpful and even willing to fully refund the purchase.

So happy to not be putting more plastic in the landfill from terrible plastic watering cans. Heads up: it's not a fast pouring spout, and you can't remove the spout, so if you want to dump a lot of water on your plants quickly, you have to dump the water out from the top opening. If you want that much water that quickly, may I recommend a bucket instead...
