I have been using this Rösle Stainless Steel Can Opener for almost a year now. I have not found any cans that I cannot open with it. This is rather expensive for a can opener but this is well worth the money. This is the best can opener that I have used. The handle turns easily and there is no mess at all. After opening the can, the can opener is as clean as before it opened the can. I rinse the can opener as a habit but it really does not need to be rinsed.The cutter never touches the contains of the can. I just use the pliers to remove the lid and my hands never touch the can contains. Both the lid and the can have no sharp edges after it was opened.Unlike conventional can openers, this one clamps the lid from the top. Your guests might be confused if they try to use this.This Rösle Stainless Steel Can Opener is both designed and made superbly. I highly recommend this.Update 3/09/2019I revised the 5 stars rating to 2. My can opener stopped working a couple of months ago. It now would not open any cans. I think it lost the clamping pressure on the rim and it no longer works. May be the issue is the cans are using thinner material or the can opener mechanism loosen over time. I think if the can opener opens thick cans too often, it would no longer able to open normal or thinner cans. It worked great while it lasted. I hate to see people buy this on my recommendation and later find out that this opener does not last. This is an expensive can opener and it should have much longer useful life.Update 3/19/2019After I updated this review, I wrote an email to Rösle and requested for service. The Service Rep asked me where I am located. I told her that I am from California, US. She asked for my address so she could send me a new one. I promptly replied with my address. This exchange of email took 2 days. I received an UPS delivery notice on the 6th day after the email that I was getting a replacement. On the 7th day, UPS delivered my new can opener. It took exactly a week from me sending an email to receiving a new opener.I downgraded this Rösle can opener from 5 stars to 2 stars because it did not last. However, I am overjoyed that Rösle replaced it.I am revising the rating back to 5 stars. This kind of Customer Service will keep me as a Customer for life.BTW. The new one is identical to the old one. The new one does feel tighter and the pliers close with a tighter gap.

I don't wish to admit in public how many $10 can openers I've bought at grocery stores. They all seem to work for a few minutes. I cook a lot and so I open many cans. The Cheap-O's aren't built for that kind of service. If that's your situation, pop for a real tool. That transaction will cost you less in the long run.

This thing came without directions, but like my other purchases, identical to and half the price of the trendy cooking store with video. It takes off the top rim of the can in one piece with the lid, so you can replace it if you want. Built-in little hook dealie to lift it off, so no more sharp edges. I've gone through several cheap can openers and they all have to be cleaned, because the blade comes in contact with the food and then they get corroded and stop working. With this Rosle can opener, it's true that the blade never comes in contact with the food and you never have to clean it. It's super sharp and turns very easily.

I see many positive reviews for this product, so maybe I received a dud - but at this price there should be a way to contact Rosle's customer service, but so far I've struck out.

I love the sturdy clean look of this product, and I've purchased Rosle products before. I have a Rosle garlic press which has been a solid kitchen tool for me for fifteen years. My other Rosle items were manufactured in Germany; this can opener is from Asia, and maybe that is a difference.

This can opener began to fail after a few days. I found that I had to circle some cans twice. At first I thought that perhaps I was operating the tool absent-mindedly. (I know, opening a can should not require the focus of a watch-maker, but I really wanted to like this product. It IS impressive-looking, and as I wrote, I've liked my earlier products from this company.)

However, the more that I used the can opener, the worse it worked. Gradually the cans would hardly open, and - contrary to the company's claims - it did leave some sharp edges which cut my fingers. Avoiding sharp edges was the main reason I purchased this type of opener.

Finally, yesterday, the Rosle opener was able to open a slit of about 1/2 inch long. The can contained a good brand of red salmon; it was too expensive to throw away, and I was hungry. I couldn't locate my old can opener, and resorted to prying open a bit of the edge of the with a screw driver. The process was a mess, fish oil spilled on the counter, over my hands, and onto the floor. My cat seemed happy, but I was not.

This is a bad product.

It took a few minutes to figure out how the can opener was supposed to attach itself to the can, but once I got that down, I fell in love with this thing. The first one I got was on sale for about $18, but at some point it wandered away from me (I think one of my ex roommates may have stolen it). I missed it so much that I paid the full $60 price to replace it. Later when it was on sale again for $30 I got it as a gift for all my friends and family whom I felt were in need of a can opener. I love this thing so much.

Once you figure out how to use this can opener (it rests on the top of the can and not on the side like other openers) you will be off to the races. The screw mechanism works a little harder than I might like, but not too hard so that my wife can't use it just as well. The lid comes off the top so that there is not chance of cutting yourself on the usual sharp edges after you are done.

Pros: Feels EXTREMELY sturdy and well-made, mechanism is easy to use, leaves no sharp edges on the can itself, doesn't touch the food in the can, machine-washable, and lifetime warranty. There's nothing else I would want from a can opener. If you need one that will last you the rest of your life, just get this one and save yourself the hassle of buying a new one down the line or checking your food for can shavings.

Cons: It's expensive, but for a lifetime warranty product, I have no qualms.

Conclusion: The best can opener I have ever used. It's just so easy and convenient while offering the safety of a lifetime warranty and not contaminating the food or cutting my hand. Would give 6 stars if I could.
