I have had no incidents such as the unit leaking or dripping fluid on the back of my legs like some of the reviews have mentioned. I am new to using this style of pack but the instructions for assemble were very easy to follow. The handle pump can be easily assembled on the left or the right. I assembled on the left since the spray wand just feels more natural in my right hand The pack is not that heavy when full but it makes it alot easier to deal with if the pack is filled on a table or tailgate. I have an acre of property and weeds are throughout. I first used a ratio of 4 gallons of water to a 4 oz mixture of round up concentrate and only sprayed in a test area, while only mixing about 20 gallons of water & 20 oz of concentrate ( basically 4oz of solution to 4 gallons of water times 5 ). Although this is probably the weakest ratio I found it gets the job done in a guarantee 7 day window time frame. Since then I have upped the concentrate ratio to 8oz to 4 gallons of water and have improved my window time frame from 7 days to as little a 4 days. Now I know this sounds amazing and your thinking to yourself yeah but what type of weeds did he encounter. I have many types on my property everything from ragweed to dandelion to crabgrass to as stubborn as the Goathead thorn and many others not sure what there names are. With the lower concentrate solution I noticed a difference in as little as 2 days. The weeds were standing tall and proud before I sprayed them. In as little as 2 days I noticed the sag and drop of the most tallest stem. By the 3-4 day the weeds seemed to shrink in size and the brown color was starting to settle in. By day 5 all were sagging and looked smaller than normal. By day 6 all weeds were a distinctive brown color but some still had a little life left in them the outside was brown in color while the inside of the stem was still slightly green. By day 7 all weeds were brown and would almost crumble in your hand. Perfect for burning with a torch. As mentioned before I did a little tweaking of the concentrate formula to try to get the best results. While still using a 4 gallons of water to now 8oz of concentrate I noticed a significant difference. In as little as four days the weeds were ready for burning. I live in Arizona were it doesn't rain that often. Although this year we are seeing a significant down pour compared to previous years. My little experiment was done under a window of 7 days because it hadn't rained in that time frame. We then got some more rain and then another 6 day window of no rain that I tested the second method out on. By the first day the weeds had a sagging way about them. By day 2-3 that golden brown color had set in and by day 4 the weeds were ready to burn. I love my chapman backpack and would recommend this to those of you still using the handheld 1 gallon unit. I can now mix up to 4 gallons of solution and the pressure gauge gives me a continued steady spray. I hope this post helps you find what you are looking for.

Poor durability, design flaws, and difficult to maintain pressure
I had high hopes for this sprayer but immediately found a few faults that should not be present in a "Pro/Commercial" sprayer. I have decided to return the sprayer for the following reasons:1) Not durable: The bolt that connects the pumping handle to the sprayer is not secure. I attached the handle, tightened the lock-nut and bolt, and began pumping with the unit filled with water to test for leaks. Less than 20 pumps into the process, I noticed the handle started to jiggle at the top and bottom of each pumping motion. I checked the bolt again thinking I hadn't tightened it enough. To my surprise, the metal hole through the handle was ALREADY worn and turning oblong rather than round. As a result, the bolt was swinging back and forth and further widening the opening with each pump.2) Threads on wand: The end of the wand is constructed of plastic threads and can be overtightened with very minimal force. I have the 3-nozzle Chapin boom that I was planning to use on the end of the sprayer. When I screwed on the boom, I was using two-fingers to tighten and the threads were stripping. I could not get the attachment to tighten adequately. The slightest bump on the boom arm would cause the attachment to strip and/or loosen. Either the threads should be metal or they need to be manufactured deeper and with stronger plastic.3) Pressure: I understand that this is not an industrial battery or motor powered sprayer, but the amount of pumping required to maintain pressure for a 3-nozzle boom is nearly impossible. I tried it with a 2-nozzle boom and still, I wouldn't be able to keep up the pace of manually pumping for more than about 100ft of walking without my arm going numb. For reference, I am 5'10 175lb and in the gym 4-5 times per week. Not sure if the stroke length of the pump is shorter than other brands, but maintaining continuous pressure even with the single nozzle requires A LOT of pumping. The included pressure regulator helps very slightly, but still requires constant pumping for continuous spraying. If you are spot spraying things then you will be fine, but if you plan to use this to apply herbicide to a lawn or are continuous spraying cleaning solutions on decks/sidewalks/vinyl-siding, it's not going to be easy.4) Pumping motion: Apparently my arms are not long enough according to Chapin's design. Regardless of how high I adjust the sprayer using the straps, my arm comes up about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch short when trying to pump the handle to its lowest point. I'm having to use the base of my fingers to push it completely down rather than keeping the handle tightened inside my palm.All in all, I can't say this is a high quality backpack sprayer. Even if I used it only occasionally, the metal pump handle would certainly fail prematurely and I imagine the plastic wand threads would eventually strip. Definitely not a commercial/pro level sprayer based on it's poor durability and basic design flaws. I will be returning the sprayer and looking for something different....and unfortunately, probably more expensive as well. Seems like the old saying holds true, "You get what you pay for."

These are amazing pumps, we have been using several of them for professional lawn care applications. Then grips on all of them have stayed put, the pressure has been great, the backpack harness is very comfortable for all day wear. 4 of them have become unusable since having the handle shear at the same spot. like clockwork one after another after about the same amount of use the handles have broken in the same spot. This is a common problem with other sprayers we have used, though these are by far the longest lasting. I have not sent in a warranty claim yet but would update this to 5 stars if this issue was resolved.
