Product Description
Ideal for home and small-office use, the CT14 DECT 6.0 cordless headset phone offers enhanced sound quality and DECT 6.0 wireless technology for an interference-free wireless range of up to 300 feet. The CT14 relies on the DECT 6.0 frequency (1.9 GHz) for all communications, giving you a roaming range of up to 300 feet and significantly better reception when compared to standard 2.4 or 5.8 GHz cordless phone systems. The DECT 6.0 frequency is used exclusively for voice communication applications, which means that wireless networks or home appliances such as microwaves will not interfere with your calls. With the enhanced range and clarity that DECT 6.0 offers, the CT14 gives you the freedom to move about your house or office without compromising on call quality. Thanks to its flexible mouthpiece, which lets you position it precisely where you need, the CT14 will give you the professional-class sound quality you require. And its noise-canceling microphone transmits your voice clearly without the background noise that a busy home or small office can produce. The CT14 features a 2-in-1 convertible style headset that gives you the option of wearing it either over-the-head or over-the-ear. You may want the comfort and stability for long calls or conferencing that the over-the-head style offers, and when it's time to switch, simply disconnect the headband, attach the ear loop, and wear the headset over your ear. Either way, you get a comfortable fit that is designed for all-day use.

DECT 6.0 and Noise Canceling Microphone for Enhanced Performance
With the CT14, you no longer have to decide between finishing that home office chore or taking that important call. Relying on the DECT 6.0 frequency (1.9 GHz) for all communications, the CT14 offers a roaming range of up to 300 feet and significantly better reception when compared to standard 2.4 or 5.8 GHz cordless phone systems.
This added performance allows you to stay in range of your calls as you roam throughout your home. And because DECT 6.0 is used exclusively for voice communication applications, wireless networks and home appliances such as microwaves will not interfere with your calls.
And by registering up to six dial pads to one base, you can get intercom and conferencing options--a great feature for multistory homes and large offices. The CT14 headset also features a flexible mouthpiece that can be positioned precisely where you need it, while its noise-canceling microphone transmits your voice clearly without the background noise that a busy home or workplace can produce.

The CT14 features a 2-in-1 convertible-style headset, giving you the option of wearing it either over the head for long calls or conferencing, or over the ear. Either way, you get a comfortable fit that is designed for all-day use.
With an integrated belt/clothing clip that allows you roam away from your desk during your calls, the ultra-compact dial pad is also designed for all-day wear. The dial pad conveniently puts controls for volume, mute, one-touch voice mail, and more within easy reach. It also offers several standard telephone functions, such as call waiting (requires a separate subscription through your telephone service provider) and redial.
The dial pad also includes an easy-to-read backlit LCD caller ID display, a built-in memory that stores up to 30 caller ID numbers, and a built-in phonebook for up to 70 contacts. Pros:
Super battery capacity. I use the phone every day for work for up to nine hours consecutively, and the battery still has charge at the end. Toward the end of a "marathon call day" I try to hang it up even for a couple minutes between conference calls, but it's really not needed. It never beeps at me. It goes at least four hours and the battery still shows full. It's really amazing.
Comfort is very good. The earpiece is soft enough, quite durable, and has not become scratchy or deteriorated despite close to 10,000 of hours of use. I give my ear a bit of a rest (swap sides) occasionally, but it's only on really long calls that I find this necessary.
Mic quality is fine (per listener reports). No one has ever told me that I was difficult to hear, muffled, crackly or anything. I ask frequently, especially before presenting to a large group.
Ergonomics is fine. The keypad is a little larger than the earlier model, but it's thinner, so it still easily tucks into a shirt pocket. Pressing the keys is easy, and they have a satisfying damped mechanical click to confirm that they worked (sometimes I dial without the headset on, so I don't hear the DTMF tones).
Battery change is easy. I have changed the battery out for an aftermarket battery once. It's to be expected for a NiMH battery pack, and the aftermarket ones are super-cheap and the one I got works great. Replacing it is simple: pop the back door, carefully unplug the pack from the connector, and reverse with the new battery.
Reception distance is more than adequate for me. I can easily walk to any place in our house (two-story) and have no reception issues. I've had it all over in our yard (a piddly seventh-acre) and that works. I dashed about 200 feet from our house to catch the mailman once, and the signal got a bit scratchy but stayed connected.
Readout functions (backlight, LCD reliability, misc. usability functions) are all fine. I don't expect a lot from these, but they all work adequately and are easy enough to use that I never read the manual. It stores dozens and dozens of incoming phone numbers in the CID memory, and you can program shortcut dialing to frequently used numbers, as you would expect.
Mute button is a single press with no delay. The CT-12 had a very annoying delay to mute (about one second and then it would kick in). That was unacceptable to me. The CT-14 has no delay. It's immediate-on, immediate-off when you press the button, just how it should be. Oh and no annoying beep on muting. There's a visual indicator to avoid needing that.
Cons? Well, really none at all. Seriously. I can't come up with anything I would like to change. Well, one: it would be the best thing ever, if it had a call-block list, so I could automatically add up to, oh, 100 caller IDs of the annoying telemarketers, political callers, surveyors and other rules-evading dinner-wreckers, and have the phone squelch them before it rings. Now THAT would be a phone!
Final thoughts: I can't seem to do any damage to the thing, despite heavy use and occasional drops to the floor. It keeps on working.
I have recommended this phone to several co-workers who have had neck and shoulder problems (who timidly admitted they were using old-style phones). They were amazed at how rapidly their pain subsided and how nice it is, to walk all around the house with the phone. Productivity on the rise!
We have two of these and the one semi-retired CT-12 still sort of works, just is decommissioned because it was getting scratchy and dialing wasn't quite right -- but that was after several years of service and lots of abuse. When I think about the operating cost per year of these phones, it's so low I can't imagine not having them unless some whizzbang new technology is developed that obviates phones of this type altogether.
Overall I have been very satisfied with this phone. It's small, lightweight, and easy to use. The controls are logical and intuitive. If you are moving around, the battery pack piece clips easily onto your clothing, even if you don't have a belt on. Additionally, it's light enough that you really don't notice it much. My old headset phone had an awful battery pack attached to it.
All the controls are on the portable battery unit... a nice plus compared to some other models. If you are out and about, you can still dial, adjust volume, etc. without having to go back to the base unit. It has Caller ID so you can see who's calling or what calls you've missed. It also has a convenient mute button.
The base is compact, which I appreciate. I store this on a shelf next to my computer where space is at a premium. Additionally, I like the little arm attachment they provide for holding the earphone piece (which I think acts as the antenna, as well). You can adjust it, so there is wiggle room when it comes to storage. Alternatively, if you don't want to use this feature, you can just put it in the down position.
Sound is very clear. Volume goes way louder than I'd ever want it (I usually have it set at #2). I've used this all over my house and on my front porch and have had no problems whatsoever with clarity--something I cannot say about some portable phones that we own. The headphone part is lightweight and quite comfortable.
The only negatives I have revolve around the headphone cord. Every once in a while I knock the cord out of the headset when I'm moving around and miss a few words of the conversation (due to my clutziness, not the phone!). And the cord is a bit of a pain when storing. I usually leave it draped down the front of the shelves next to my computer (a cat attractant and it doesn't look very neat, but I need to get the phone fast, and this works for me).
