Rain Wizard 50

The original rustic rain barrel

Helping the Earth and your Garden

Save the planet, water and money

Over 40% of our water is used outside our homes. Ballooning populations, reduction of fresh water and drought from climate change is making water increasingly more valuable. If we saved even just 100 gallons a year per person (the average daily use per person) The US alone would save 30 billion gallons annually.

Rain Barrels

Rain barrels have been used for thousands of years to collect and save water. Today, millions of people use rain barrels to bring natural water to their lawn and plants while some even convert it into drinking water. Technology has helped to make these barrels more feature rich and efficient than ever before.

Features

  • Made of BPA-free, FDA approved resin
  • Linkable to other barrels for increased capacity using separately sold linking kit
  • Resistant to rust, mold, mildew, and rotting
  • High quality brass spigot for hose hook-up + overflow spout
  • Screen to keep out debris, insects, animals, and children
  • 50 gallon capacity
  • Made in the USA
  • 1 year Limited Manufacturer's Warranty

Brass hose bibb

This brass plated, turn-down spigot is 3/4-inch to work with standard hose hookups. And it's no kink design keeps water flowing. Comes with plumber's tape to seal.

Screened for protection

The anti-debris and bug screen on the barrel's top will work with standard 2x3 and 3x4 downspouts. The soft mesh keeps out mosquitoes and other pests and can be removed with a phillips head screwdriver. The front overflow screen lets excess water drain away from the foundation to avoid flooding.

Back to the wall

To reduce the barrel's footprint, we've flattened the back of the traditional oak barrel design so it hugs exterior walls. The fine wood grain texture still brings out that authentic, oak barrel appearance.

Customers are mixed about the leakage of the cistern. Some mention that it does not leak, and the faucet worked perfectly to stop all runoff. The bottom is very slow and only lets a small amount of water out at a time. Some say that it is prone to pinhole leaks and that there was a problem with the tap screw.

77 customers mention50 positive27 negative

Customers are mixed about the water capacity of the cistern. Some mention that it holds a lot of water, is still standing strong, and is sufficient for their garden. However, others say that the water is not adequate, the capacity is only 40 gallons, and it appears to be very flimsy. Additionally, a small amount of water pools at the top of the barrel.

"...We have gotten several heavy rains since. It fills quickly, but doesn't bother me any...." Read more

Customers have mixed opinions about the size of the rain collector. Some mention that it fits well against the wall, while others say that it doesn't fit. The included spout fits well, but it seems as if it could be over tightened. However, some customers have reported issues with the size and flow of the water. They mention that the faucet at the bottom is small, the holes in the debris screen are super small, and the base made for this product does not fit.

"...With a little teflon tape, it threaded on nicely and I haven't had a leak with 50 gallons of water in it...." Read more

"...The hole for the water to get into the barrel is too small and the screen seemed to actually deflect a lot of the water...." Read more

Works great, only wished it looked a bit better
The barrel arrived in a well packed box. It took only a few minutes to assemble it, which consists of putting teflon tape on the brass faucet then screwing it into the pre-threaded hole. I decided to divert my downspout directly, and fully, into the rain barrel. I bought the flexible extender and a downspout outlet from the Big Box store for only a few dollars. I located the outlet upside down on the screen, drilled eight little holes, and then mounted the outlet with some 6-32 stainless steel screws, washers and nuts. I opted to raise the barrel off the ground using a couple of cinder blocks. Once we see how the barrel performs after a good rain, I will replace those cinder blocks with a stack of 18x18 pavers, so that it looks nicer. For now, I'm using a garden hose to drain the barrel into the yard. Not too sure how that will work in the long term, as the hose might not have the capacity to transfer water out at the same rate coming in. We'll see. My only wish was that the simulated metal bands on the barrel are the same color as the body of the barrel. I might paint them black, just for looks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy with the barrel. Add a little paint and you can't tell it's fake!
Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2014
UPDATE: I've had it for a year and a half now in the horrible, unforgiving heat of the sun. Still no leaks or buckling. I recently added a small pond pump in it and ran tubing up through my rain chain. Now I have more bang for my buck.... A fountain! I LOVE IT even more now and I don't have to wait for the rain to listen to running water. The pump also means no mosquito larvae. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I love this barrel. We have gotten several heavy rains since. It fills quickly, but doesn't bother me any. Get yourself some black plastic or glass paint bottles from the craft section and paint the rings and the cracks on the barrel. Takes a few minutes and makes a HUGE difference in appearance (picture attached). I have had no issues with leaking or bowing. I took the screan off because I have no leaves to worry about and enlarged the opening. Very easy to cut with a hacksaw. The barrel looks much better in person than in the picture. It has faux wood grain and is kind of two toned, so the grain stands out. After reading reviews, I saw that the spigot is too low for a hose, so I when attaching it, I stopped when the spigot was turned sideways. Good to go! I love the addition of a copper rain chain. Sounds beautiful!
