I decided to search online to see if there was a better version that was worth the money. I came across these and after reading a most of the reviews I had to give it a try. At the time of purchase the price on these boots were less than $20. I thought for the price I figured why not. Before I made the purchase I was debating between a size 6 and 7. I was reading reviews and many recommended sizing up. I normally wear a 5.5 in many shoes and a 6 in running shoes. I prefer a 6 for running shoes to give my toes some space to move and my toes are a little on the long size....hey don't judge we all come in different sizes, shapes and colors; so I decided to order the 6 with a little fear that it might be a bit small if I wanted to wear thick socks. When they arrived I put them on and they fit perfectly with ample wiggle room for my toes with and without socks, a little snug with socks but not uncomfortable. The shaft height was also perfect for me. From the bottom of the boot to the top (shaft) the measurement was about 13.5' for the size 6. They are well below my knee and the calf opening was perfect for me. For reference I am 5'1" and my calfs are 13" (circumference), again I can only vouch for the size 6 boot. The opening measured at about 14". There is also a nice amount of cushion in the sole.
I am very glad I bought these. I highly recommend these boots for the price, quality, and fit. It's also great that these boots are not made in China like the more expensive one.
Sizing is weird. Most people say to order at least a size up, but some people say their regular size is fine. I went with the majority and ordered one size up (I'm normally a 6 so I ordered a 7), and they fit perfect. There's a little extra room in the toe, but a size down would have been too small.
I'm fairly short and thin - 5'4" and about 105 pounds - and the height and calf-width on these is great. They definitely come up higher than they would on someone with a longer leg, but they're still a few inches below my knee. (Which, short people know, is a serious consideration.)
I also have some good clearance around the calf. Some other reviewers with athletic legs mentioned that these were tight, but if you don't have muscular legs (like me) there is plenty of room. My narrow jeans slide right in, and I can even fold my boot-cut jeans over and tuck them in pretty easily.
They hold up great. I've worn them out to splash in puddles with my toddler for about a week and my feet stay perfectly dry.
They're also much more comfortable than I thought they would be. We were out of town last weekend, and I forgot to grab another pair of shoes. I wore these all weekend and my feet never hurt. (And I'm flat-footed.)
I was in love with an expensive name brand for rubber boots when I started shopping. When I realized I couldn't afford them, and started looking in my price range I didn't expect to find something this good. I'm really happy with these, and really glad I didn't spend more. (If ONLY the "berry" ones had been in my size! Can't win 'em all, I guess.)
No bad odor on arrival.
(1) The price was great.
I intended to get Target's $20-$30 boots (even though friends told me they wouldn't last) because I couldn't stomach paying $$$ for Hunters. (UPDATE: There are some interesting blog posts about Hunters falling apart quickly.) However, they only had ugly ones with terrible reviews. So I went to a shoe website and found these. They were close to $50, which is still more than I wanted to risk. Imagine my delight on finding them here for cheaper! Under $40 (close to $35, in fact), and I was sold. I got the size 6 and 7 to compare. Interestingly, the size 6 was about $1 more than the size 7 (purchased about two days later).
(2) They look good.
Maybe people won't notice my boots, but I don't feel ugly wearing them. I think they are flattering when viewed from the front (probably the back, too) because they are shaped to look narrow that way. The side view isn't as great. The boot looks wide (front to back). The problem is the calf protrusion. It sticks out about behind my ankle. If they eliminate that protrusion and keep the boot straight up the back or just shape the calf higher where the calf actually is, it would look much better. I will update after checking out my friends' Hunters from the side view to compare. We're all about the same size.
I like the matte finish. The mud seems to stand out less and I shouldn't have to worry about scratches and dings. I bought them to USE, not display. The buckle is decorative but hasn't gotten in my way.
I kept the size 7. Here are the (approximate) measurements I've taken (might be different from what's listed online):
BOOT MINE
Height: 13.75" (includes 1" heel)
Ankle: almost 12" (mine swim in here)
Calf: 13.5" 13"
Foot (widest):10.5" 8"
Mouth: 15" NA
Heel to toe: 10"
These sit comfortably just below my knee; I have no problems bending. I can tuck in straight-leg pants. I normally wear a 5 1/2. The size 6 felt nice and snug but were more difficult to remove. I read that some people like their boots tighter so that they're less likely to come off when stuck in mud. I want to get in and out of these quickly. I can always wear thick socks in the size 7 but still walk comfortably in them with thinner socks. The size 7 would would give me room to include a winter liner if I ever wanted one.
(3) They were pretty comfortable. I walked in them for six hours. I don't have any foot issues, but I have worn some uncomfortable, cheap shoes. Even with some expensive shoes, your feet are tired by the end of the day. I was tired, but I didn't feel it in my feet. I think some other reviewers noted a lack of arch support.
UPDATE: I drove in them today. Boy, are they stiff. It took some effort to bend my foot forward to press the accelerator. I'll have to ask my friends about their Hunters. I'm wondering if all that stretching will cause wear on the rubber.
(4)They kept me dry and were easy to clean.
I washed mud off of them and let them sit in a tub of water. When I tried the boots on again, they were still dry. I should update this review in about a year to post how they have stood up with time.
Minor quibble: the size 7 arrived with minor defects. It looked like there were shiny fingerprints on the top of the boot. There was also scuff marks on the foot area. When I got a replacement size 7, it still had the shiny fingerprint-like marks at the top. They appear to have been made while the rubber was shaped. I don't think they are actual fingerprints; probably tool marks. Nobody else would notice. I just thought it was a little odd. The size 6 had none of those problems.

As stated by other reviewers, the Kamiks fit a titch small, so order a size up, especially if you want to wear thick socks. I have a slender foot (can easily fit an A) with a very high arch, and long, slender ankles/calves/legs. These days I fit a size 40 EU, so I ordered the Kamiks in a size 41 EU. I got the boots on very easily, wearing thick wool socks, and have room to tuck my pant legs into the boots. The footbed of the 41 Kamiks is the same size as my size 40 Birkenstocks, to give you some idea of the sizing. This really surprises me - I prefer to use EU sizing b/c it’s supposed to be exactly the same length, as opposed to the variances found in NAmerican sizes - not sure why Kamik is selling a 40 EU as a 41 EU, but there you go. Forewarned is forearmed - don’t purchase your usual size in this boot & expect it to fit properly!
If you have more muscular / thicker ankles and calves than I do, you might struggle with the upper width of these boots, as they’re every bit as slim as other reviewers have stated. In that case, you might want to scope out some Bogs - they’re pricey, but they last forever and they do have a lovely, fuzzy warm lining that the Kamiks are missing. My Bogs were actually too wide for my skinny little calves, and they didn’t even have the wide uppers!
Back to the Kamiks - great fit out of the box - use your weight to sink your foot into the footbed the first few times if you’re struggling. I didn’t have any trouble whatsoever. The sole is fantastic - some of the best grips I’ve seen on gumboots in a while. And, of course, the boots are entirely waterproof.
Recommended.
