About Us

Thanks to the company’s strong diversified foundation and innovative, motivated people, Dutton-Lainson Company has spanned three centuries and is now in a stronger position than at any time in its history. The company was founded in 1886, when William M. Dutton and two friends started a small harness and horse collar shop. This soon grew to become one of the largest horse collar manufacturing plants in the nation.

Dutton-Lainson Company has remained a leader in the wholesale and manufacturing businesses and also expanded into printing and retailing. Today, the company’s five divisions are still operated by the same high standards of efficiency, ingenuity, and professionalism that gave the company its start long ago.

Product Description

A versatile tool that makes lifting heavy loads easy with just the turn of a handle, this winch has a variety of potential uses. Many are used for storage platforms in garages, where seasonal items are stored up and out of the way. Just mount the winch, add some rope or cable and a few pulleys, secure a stable platform (usually heavy plywood or something similar), and take advantage of unused space. Once the platform has been raised, attach separate safety lines to the corners.

This winch is built for multi-purpose hauling and lifting operations. It is not
to be used as a hoist for lifting, supporting, or transporting people, or for
loads over areas where people could be present.

    Worth the extra cost
So i decided to build a small dump trailer. I've built a few trailers, but never a dump. First I purchased a belt style thinking I could make that work "wrong" but it was fun to play that strap when it was under a load, sounded like a mouth harp. So then I read about the worm drive winch that holds its position under load, no need for a locking mechanism. So off to harbor freight to pick up their inexpensive one. One load the winch gears were toast, so I spent the money and purchased this one with the hex drive so I could run it with a cordless drill.I'm impressed, I lubed it up and have run this thing up and down, under a 2000lb load of mulch. Stays right where you stop, smooth and steady up or down, and virtually effortless with my little drill. I love this thing so much I bought another for a future project. holy Cow, These things are awesome. If you plan to use a drill to run this winch(highly recommended if you use it a lot or the length is very far) then opt for the (WG2000HEX) you get a handle with a socket that is removable then just get a socket to fit in your drill. If you already have one with the handle, you can just purchase the hex drive to swap out in your unit like I did or use two nuts against each other like a jam nut and remove the handle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Used this to hoist Jeep hard top up to ceiling
Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2019
This is great, we finally figured out how to get the Jeep top off the floor with this little jem. It works great! I didn't know what a worm gear was but it turns out you can just stop and start whenever you want and when you let go whatever you are hauling up will just stay and not come crashing down. I will say it is very slow at moving things but it really helps if you put a drill on it and let the drill do the work... Fantastic!
