When I first saw the price…I was hesitant to buy it because I thought it was expensive and I had my doubts about it actually doing what it claims (I’ve been burned many times before by other products and I’m sure you have too), but let me tell you…it is worth every penny! So as long as it isn’t going to break the bank for you, I recommend giving it a try.
I originally bought the scented one, but when it arrived I could smell it without even opening the bottle and it was a nauseating scent. Sort of reminded me of licorice or star anise, which for me personally…is 🤢. I know everyone has different scent likes and dislikes, but thought I’d share that, for those who also despise those type of scents. DEFINITELY not something I want to have lingering in my home. So I returned it and ordered the unscented one. So much better! It does have a smell, but I don’t find it very strong and it does not linger very long at all. I don’t find that most things that are “unscented” are TRULY without a smell. It usually just means no ADDED fragrance, but the products typically still smell like SOMETHING. However, your carpet (or whatever you use it on) will smell like nothing after it’s done doing its job. At least that’s been my experience.
I originally bought this because I rescued 4 very young kittens (approx. 4-5 weeks old) and they kept peeing on the carpet and some other places. They have since stopped (they are 6 months old now) thankfully! However, NOW there is a neighbors un-neutered cat that KEEPS coming into our yard and on our deck and spraying all over the place! It’s smells horrible! So I’ve been periodically spraying Anti Icky Poo out there and it breaks down the uric acid and the smell goes away. Because I’ve had to use so much of it now… I will be ordering a 2nd bottle of this amazing product!
I know this is a long review…but if you want to stick with me…I’m going to add some advice on how to use it. Try to use it as soon as possible after finding the pee, as the sooner you use it the better it will be. Wipe up/soak up as much pee as possible. DO NOT use/spray anything else on the spot(s), as this can interfere with how the Anti Icky Poo works and can actually make it more difficult for it to do its job, which means you’ll likely have to use more product and spend more valuable time working on cleaning it up or waiting for it to work. DO NOT even use warm or hot water on the spots or in the washing machine…as this can actually SET the odor stain and can again, make it more difficult to get rid of the urine odor. If you really feel like you need to use water, use COLD water. Although, this really isn’t necessary. It would be better to rinse with cold water AFTER the Anti Icky Poo has eliminated the odor. Products always recommend testing out on a small or inconspicuous spot, to make sure it doesn’t bleach or ruin the material in some way, but if I’m being honest…I did not bother with this because the only other option is to be stuck with the urine odor forever, no thank you! I’d rather have a faded spot on my carpet or couch or whatever…than choose to just keep the urine smell around forever. But ultimately, this is up to you of course. Luckily, I didn’t happen to have any issues with this. I recommend Googling the best way to use for the particular surface or material the urine is on because there are some different tips out there depending on what your going to be using it on, that you may find quite helpful. That’s all I can think of. I hope this long a#* review helps someone out there. Haha
Thank you to everyone who has rescued or adopted cats, dogs or any other animals. I truly appreciate you! 🥰
Good luck with everything and take care!
All I can say is wow. It works. I've used it on leather, tile floors, wood floors, carpet (scrub lightly to break up the salt crystals that form on the surface of the carpet fibers just prior to use), and various fabrics, including a pair of silk pillow covers. There has been no damage, and it has worked on them all. I've used it in my laundry (put the clothes in the washer, let the water fill to where it just covers the clothes, dump in a cup of Anti Icky Poo, let sit for 24 hours, wash as usual). I've saved luggage. I've saved my leather messenger bag. I've used it on cat urine, cat vomit (hairballs), residual cat feces when one cat missed the litter box (to keep others from deciding to do the same), and even plain old food stains on my own clothing. Oh, and you know how athletic T-shirts can eventually get yellow sweat stains under the armpits or around the neck? Guess what? Sweat is organic, and Anti Icky Poo loves organic stains and smells. It has also worked on grease spots when I accidentally dropped a bit of chicken bolognese on my chest--because olive oil is organic. I have soaked a featherbed in it after my cat peed on it, let it dry, then taken it to the cleaner for a wash in their industrial washer--no odor when I took it in to the cleaner, and no odor when I got it back.
My biggest test was with a shirt I found after my poor cat passed away. It was buried at the back of my closet, and the poor thing had apparently been using as a litter box for quite awhile. It was covered with dark, smelly urine stains that had clearly been layered onto it over months. I have no idea how I didn't smell it earlier. In any case, I decided I wasn't going to be able to wear it again (psychologically, it would have been impossible for me after knowing what had been on it), but I wanted to test out my Anti Icky Poo. I thoroughly doused the inside and outside of the shirt in Anti Icky Poo, rolled it up into a ball, and tied it up in a plastic grocery bag. I did this once a day for three days. I could see that the stains had faded more each day. On the third day, there was no evidence of staining or smell left. I washed normally in the washer and dried in the dryer. The shirt looked and smelled like brand new. I still got rid of the shirt (like I said, psychologically I just couldn't wear it), but I was absolutely amazed. After the fact, I wished I had taken before and after photos. It was that drastic.
The secret to this product is that this has both bacteria and an enzyme in it, and the two work together. For them to work, you HAVE TO KEEP THEM ALIVE. Which means you MUST keep the solution WET for it to keep working--once it dries up, the bacteria (which is what is eating away the decaying matter that causes the smell) dies and thus quits working. And you have to give it time to eat everything away. It's not a masking product that works immediately by covering with perfume--it actually completely gets rid of what it's working on by eating it up over time. It speeds up the decay process, which is what creates the smell, so things definitely get worse before they get better, but if you give it time and make sure you create the proper conditions for the bacteria and enzymes to remain alive and keep working (wrap in plastic, spray religiously and liberally, let it puddle, etc.), it's like magic.
And, btw, I have other cats. Not one shows any sign that it smells any trace of odor on anything I've treated. And none of them uses anything I've treated as a bathroom--they're all happily using their litter boxes.
Anti Icky Poo = Good stuff!
This works well for the dog. No dog smells. Especially after coming in from the wet outside walks, or is it me? It gets rid 'A' smell.
I would suggest getting some for your dog rubs.
