It's Still Small Enough For Tighter Places With Only 2" or 2 3/8 " Nails. Mine Only Fired Blanks Once When The Nail Rack Was Not Perfect, Easy Fix...Sometimes it Will Double Nail When It's LOW On Air Pressure Otherwise It's Pretty Flawless... I've Nailed Over 2,000 Nails Already 2" To 3 1/2" Putting My Falling Down Garage Back Together With Very Little To NO Problems.... I Need a Smaller One For Hurricane Straps I Can't Reach Very Well Otherwise It's 5 Stars ! Excellent Price and Value For The Money...It's a Little Big ,Maybe a Little Heavy, BUT It Pounds Those 3 1/2" Nails Like Butter ! THE Adjustment For The LENGTH Is a Big Help For Lining Every thing Up Before Final Nailing... I Read a Complaint Where It Wouldn't Pound The Nail In All The Way And Had to Use a Hammer To Finish It ,WELL, READ THE DIRECTIONS, I Use The ADJUSTMENT Occasionally or It's just as Easy To Nail It Part Way By Hand As to Facilitate Lining Up The PLywood..
There are a lot of 5-star reviews for this nailer, and It's tempting to follow suit, as I had a very good experience using it in building wood platforms for a couple of sheds recently. However, as a home handyman with little expertise with air nailers, I didn't want to declare this to be a perfect tool based upon my limited knowledge and use of these tools.
It performed very well, with plenty of nail-sinking power, and only a minor number of misfires. I didn't have any 'jams' that required partial dis-assembly to clear - in most cases where this happened, I only had to move the spring back, as if loading another strip of nails, and the misfired nail would fall out easily.
A couple of minor niggles:
1) I found toe-nailing to be somewhat difficult to do accurately, because of the somewhat wide rubber foot. This displaces the exit point for the nail more than I'd like, which means that the nail is traveling through the air a bit before entering the wood. It also means that the nail isn't completely driven in, and it must be completed with a nail-setting punch and a hammer. In most cases, due to the angle at which I was toe-nailing, this amounted to between 1-1/2" to 2" or so of 'undriven' nail shaft. Note that this isn't a fault of the tool, and it's probably similar with other brands, at any price. It's possible that the rubber foot can be removed in order to minimize this by putting the actual nail exit closer to the wood, but I haven't looked into it.
2) Again, not the fault of the tool, but it uses 21-degree collated nails, and it appears that the big-box stores are moving more towards 28 and 30-degree tools, limiting the supply of nails. I was able to find them at both Lowes and Home Depot, but the supply and selection wasn't as plentiful as for the other sizes. I observed that Home Depot seems to feature 21-degree nailers in their tool rental department, so they had a good supply of Hitachi nails for sale there in the rental area, but not in the hardware department of the store. And the were less expensive than the nails sold in proximity to the nailers display!
In summary, this is a great value, at least for homeowner-type use. It worked great for my purposes and I'd heartily recommend it to others with similar needs.
