Customers like the quality of the light bulb. For example, they say it works great, it'll work well in a place with lots of places to move, and the LED works perfectly with the sensor. Some say it's pretty good, but only if you know exactly what you are buying it for. It works with either incandescent bulbs or compact fluorescent bulbs, and it was reliable for about a month before it became very intermittent.

"...However, it'll work really well in a place where there's lots of places to move around and people would generally go to move around, e.g. garage...." Read more

Customers are mixed about the motion detection of the light bulb. Some mention that it's the perfect answer, while others say that it could be more sensitive. They mention that it's not consistently sensitive when moving in the same location, it'll see motion too easily, and there's no adjustment for sensitivity or light off timer. The sensitivity is inconsistent at different angles of approach, and it senses only adequately. Some say that the product doesn't swivel or adjust for a more sensitive or less sensitive sensor. Overall, customers are disappointed with the product's sensitivity and the lack of sensitivity adjustment options.

"...steps higher than the garage floor, and I've noticed less sensitivity from floor level, especially when one is coming around the side of the car...." Read more

Exactly What I Was Looking For

Exactly What I Was Looking For
My laundry room doubles as the garage entry to the house. I wanted the light in there to be on a motion sensor so I wouldn't have to keep fumbling for the switch whenever my hands were full with the laundry or groceries. I first tried a different motion sensor socket, the kind with a 180 degree sensor jutting out from the bottom, which turned out to be a complete fail. My light socket is 10ft up on the wall (bulb points parallel to the ground), and I could never position the sensor in a way that would readily pick up movement beneath it. It also secretly had a dawn/dusk sensor (with no mention of it anywhere on the packaging), which was sensitive enough to pick up the tiny amount of sunlight spilling in from a small, covered window. In other words, it didn't work. The First Alert Motion Sensor socket solved all of my problems. The 360 sensor can pick up movement the second anyone steps into the room. Best of all, no light sensor -- the bulb turns on day or night! One thing to look out for, though: the sensor does have sweet spots, marked on the back of the socket area with arrows. If I may share a tip, I extended those marks with a red marker (as can be seen in the picture) so that I can easily position the socket without having to unscrew it completely to check the arrows on the back again whenever I have to switch out the light bulb or something.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the one you want!
Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2018
I previously purchased one of those expensive (approx. $50) LED motion light fixtures with three adjustable aluminum light panels -- it was a disaster because the lights came on, and stayed on for hour after hour after hour. It wouldn't turn off! I promptly returned for a refund.

Then I tried this model by First Alert (the user supplies the actual light bulb). I was wary that an LED bulb might not work -- especially a brighter bulb. Some reviews said "Yes" and other reviews complained of flickering. IN FACT, the one I purchased came in a package claiming it was compatible with LED bulbs. I installed a 17 watt LED (equivalent to 100 watt incandescent), the brightness rated at 1600 lumens -- and it works great! I use it in my garage. It comes on quickly when I enter and it shuts itself off after several minutes of no activity. In other words, it works exactly as I wanted. I purchased a second First Alert motion socket because I liked the first one so well. Highly recommended -- see the pic accompanying this review.
