This brings me to my next point, you know, the one you've been waiting to hear. I did a lot of Google searching over several days on comparable headsets to the TB headsets I had liked. I also, just for reference, search the best/top gaming headsets for PC to get a feel where each headset I could afford fell in the rankings. All these search lead to me Logitech. Now Logitech has been a main contender in the gaming market for a while and in general for longer than that, so I was not surprised to see a lot of god feedback coming from customers. I too was a Logitech user, a steering wheel that I absolutely love because of its craftsmanship and overall quality. So I began to narrow my field down to around $100 and see what I could get in the price range. I started comparing various Logitech headsets against each other and other brands. 9 out of 10 times, the Logitech headset came out on top. So Logitech it was...but which one, the g430, the g35, or the wireless g930? So I simply compared them against each other and almost every review I read had the g930 coming out on top unless wireless was not your style then the g35 was the victor. Being a fan of a non-cluttered desk and being very anal retentive about my cable management I dug into the reviews both text and YouTube, for the g930. Was the mic quality good? Did they feel comfortable on my head? How about the batteries, did they last? Everything I found was positive so I ordered them...then canceled my order, reviewed another few vids and reordered them...yes, I had second thoughts not 5 minutes after I ordered them the first time.
Thanks to my Prime membership and a stroke of good luck, they arrived the next day, and I didn't pay for overnight shipping!!!! I'm impatient and love to test my new toys as soon as I get them, so I wasted no time setting them up for use. The packaging itself was great, they call it frustration free packaging. None of that heat pressed plastic garbage, cut a couple pieces of tape and slid everything right out. Plugged the sweet USB/charging hub into my computer and powered them on. The drivers self-installed and following the advise of several reviews, I downloaded the Gaming Software that allows you to make changes to the profiles. Now the sound test, I slapped on Spotify and cranked out the tunes. They sounded great! So onto a game to test the surround. So I wasn't very pleased with the surround, everyone talking sounded like they were talking into a tin can, and overall the sound quality wasn't that great, but flip it back to stereo and everything sounded amazing. So how long would this battery last? Well out of the box I got about 2 hours out of it before I had to charge them...but I was in the middle of a gaming session with my friends. No worries, the play and charge feature worked flawlessly. With the headset plugged in, it felt like a typical wired headset thanks to the angled charging cord that pushed the bulk of the cable out away from my head. In about 3 hours, while still using them heavily, I was fully charged and ready to ditch the cable. So how long did the battery last? Well, playing games, talking to my friends in a chat service and streaming music all at once, I got about 5-6 hours out of it. So it was a little short of the 10 hours Logitech claims but I also had a lot of sounds and there time frame even says "Up To 10 Hours" depending on what you're doing. So the mic? Well I asked my friends how I sounded and they said fine, so I recorded myself a little message and played it back, sounded just fine. One thing I loved about my TB headsets was the voice monitoring, which kept me from getting noiseless syndrome, when your yell into a mic because you can't hear how loud you are talking. So how would this work for the g930? Easy, remember the gaming software I mentioned earlier? You simply turn up the side tone volume on the sound menu to your desired level and you can hear yourself so you don't scream.
Well If you made it this far you are obviously genuinely interested in my opinion on this headset so I suppose I will now spill the beans. I am in love with this headset. The fit, the form, the build quality, sound quality, overall use friendliness of them is great. Sure the software could use some tweaking but we're not hear to discuss software. Would I recommend it? Absolutely, if you are looking for a great wireless or even just a great headset around $100, then I would strongly recommend these. Plus with Logitech's 3 year limited warranty, you have 3 years for any defects to surface and they will fix them. I hope this review has helped you make a decision on your headset.
Since that day I have only played games using surround sound headphones of one sort or another.
For the past few years I have used a pair of Turtle Beach HPA2 headphones. They have worked well, and still sound great to this day, except they are simply falling apart from use. I was a bit hesitant to give up my XFI sound card for a USB version of audio, but so far have had no issues. I was also apprehensive about giving up a set of heaphones with 8 individual speakers to one with just two, and Dolby headphone processing.
I bought the wired version of the Logitech 7.1 headphones, but returned them when I found the wireless pair weighed almost the same, and weren't much more expensive. I have been using them for a few weeks now, mostly playing Left4Dead2, watching movies, and listening to music.
First, the actual audible sound quality. Near perfect in my opinion. The audio is balanced and detailed, the bass doesn't overdrive the rest of the tones, and the mid-range isn't muddy. The multi-band EQ is a great touch that the wired version didn't have, and is great for music, but I didn't find myself enabling it in games.
Surround sound quality: Great. The "feel" of the surround sound is amazing, as far as the ability to detect where and how far a sound is coming from. In Left4Dead2 I can call out "smoker at three o-clock" or "charger behind us" without even looking. The only time the positioning seems to get a bit muddy is if something is RIGHT behind you, in which case it sort of sounds like "dead center" instead of "behind center". The surround sound even does pretty good with music, but I find myself turning it off for that. What is nice is changing between surround sound and stereo is a simple hard switch on the headphones, no need to open up a configuration application.
Microphone sound quality: Also great. The microphone is top-notch. You can turn on the voice repeat feature and hear it for your self. There are two issues with the microphone though. First, the mic does pick up a lot of outside sounds when your NOT talking. It picks up the smallest mouse click in a quiet room. It does however seem to compensate for loud rooms. At a LAN party it didn't pick up everything and only seemed to pick up voices, however not always my own voice. Second, even if the "side channel" sound some sound from the microphone is always fed back into the headphone signal. Even if you press the mute button on the headphones, if you scratch the surface of the mic you can head it in the audio. And it's and electrical connection too, not a vibration traveling up the headset. It does turn off entirely when the mic is "docked" at the top of the headset. Perhaps Logitech added this so you could hear yourself?
Noise isolation: The ear muffs on these are very good at cutting out outside noise. In fact I think Logitech put in the side channel control just so you could head someone nearby talk. This is great at a LAN party where you want to hear the game, but also bad when say someone is trying to get your attention.
Comfort: Despite being HUGE, and fairly heavy, the headphones are very comfortable, and I can wear them for hours besides one issue: They push on the arms of my glasses. Which many headphones do, but due to the noise isolation foam being pretty strong, it can start to wear on me.
Battery life: So far I have been able to game for many hours or more on the headphones with no issue, I never measured the exact amount. The manual says it will warn you before they stop working, however the one time I did run them to zero the warning was only seconds before they shut down. But since you can just plug in the USB and keep playing while charging, this really isn't an issue. They are wireless headphones 99% of the time. The do seem to take a few hours to charge. The software keeps a good readout of exactly how much battery you have left, and I often keep it open on a second monitor. The charging cord is long enough to work as a headphone cord.
Range: I was able to walk to the kitchen and get a drink without loosing audio., about 150ft and though four walls.
Cons and improvements:
-Side buttons could do a lot more. You can get some plugins but they have to be hard-coded and aren't very flexible.
-There is no real quick way to switch between USB audio for the headphones, and on-board audio for my speakers. I used a shortcut program and the side buttons to switch between them, but there could be a more elegant solution. For example, I would like it if I actually power off the headphones, the Logitech program could detect it and switch back to my secondary preferred sound output.
-More warning about impending battery failure would be great. When mine failed it was in the middle of a gauntlet event where I had zero time to find my charger cable. I had to finish the game without sound.
-An indicator when you have the voice changing enabled (perhaps blink the mic LED). Its a fun feature, but not when you get into a serious game and forgot you left it on, and five minutes in someone asks if your mic is broken.
-Remove the microphone audio entirely from the headphone sound.
-Provide a always-on setting. The number one complaint I see is from people who didn't have audio playing for 15 minutes, and then tried to play audio only to realize the headphones turned off automatically. Battery saving is great, but perhaps if the mic arm is down the headphones could stay on constantly?

A suivre...
I ordered these on 16th of August, at half the price of other refurb units, the only downside was the expected delivery date was 16th September, a very long wait, but I'd put up with my spare headset for a few weeks already, what was a few more.
On 19th August I had a knock on my door, thinking it was my house mate having locked himself out again, I trundled downstairs in my dressing gown to look bleary-eyed at a postman. "Package for Tom . . ." clearly he was as shocked by my hairy, pale ankles as I was by his presence. He handed over a large brown paper package with my name on the front of it. Given I'd ordered some spare ear pads (as I spend a lot of time wearing my headsets), I expected to open the package and find them.
Cue my giddy surprise.
A gleaming, black pair of G930s restored to nigh on immaculate condition.
Almost unable to contain my surprise, I swiftly plugged them in back at my PC and was transported into long lost territory with glorious surround sound, a built-in micro phone and most importantly (given my house mate) a high degree of noise cancellation.
"Muss man Sourround hören?"
