Before you try to install it, read through the instructions and get down the process of locking and unlocking. It tells you not to lock the keys in the safe, so don’t. Test out your codes and make sure both work. Once you get that down, you will be fine. Yes, you have to remove the little screw to open up the panel to access it with the key. You may want to find a small pocket screwdriver to keep around the safe should you need it.

1) if your house is a newer construction from the last 20+ years, your wall studs should be 16 inches apart. I would use a stud finder, available for less than $10 everywhere, to mark the edges of your studs. Once you do that, quickly measure to see if they are close to 16 inches.
2) next I used a level and marked a line straight down on the edge of one of the studs. I then cut that line out what the sheet rock saw available for less than $10 and any tool store.
3) next I cut both the top and bottom horizontal lines after I measured them. Then finally I cut out the other side vertical line.
4) I remove the piece of sheet rock and said that on the side. Then I placed the safe and to the opening. Once I’ve verified I had enough clearance, I did the code and open the door.
5) i’ve then, using a pencil, marked the three holes on each side of the safe where the screws will go.
6) next i used a drill bit, smaller than the diameter of the screws, and drilled my six holes.
7) I then installed all six screws.
Super simple.
My only complaint is that I would like the beeping sound to be turned off so that I could access in secret. Another person stated he removed the beeping mechanism from the circuit board. I may try that.
- This fits between the wall studs (US building code) without any issues.
- Easy to install, included the mounting hardware and directions for setting up lock codes.
- As with all between the studs wall safes, the middle shelf has limited use since much of its space is taken up with the locking mechanism.
- The shelves can be removed if needed.
- The top an bottom shelf have a decent amount of room to store what you need to.
My biggest concern was finding a wall safe that would fit between the studs. Many other products had reviews that indicated they did not fit between the studs without having to trim the studs.
- This safe fits between 16" on center 2x4 studs.
- The in wall width is 14.25" giving you 1/4" of wiggle room for framers that missed by a little bit.
- I had no issues setting the unlock codes.
- You can set up to 2 codes from 3 - 8 digits each.
- after 3 failed attempts safe will lock you out for 20 seconds
No it is not fireproof, nor does it not claim to be.
This is a good solution for keeping items locked up and out of reach. Some people have reviewed that they could easily pry open this safe. While I do believe a determined person might be able to do so, it would not be easy.
So, plan on just the bottom shelf and top shelf being useable, with maybe just a couple really small or thin items on the entire middle section.
For the price point, I'm very happy with the purchase. Heavy steel, the door gap on my safe is small enough to be pry-resistant, and the keypad is solid and is working great out of the box, though I'd be happy at this price for it to be key-only. I don't really trust that the company will exist within their "10 year warranty" or that it would be worth it to send it back for return.
Things to know as a buyer:
* The keypad is loud. Other reviewers have demonstrated how to disable the speaker. Would be nice for that to be easier out of the box.
* The keypad sticks out a significant amount from the face, so have a plan if your intent is to cover with a painting or other facade.
* The lag bolts that come with the safe are.... an odd choice. The safe is designed to be convenient to stick between studs, but the lag bolts are _way_ too long for that task. I used similar diameter bolts which were stud-width instead so I didn't punch into adjacent fixtures or give someone access to the mounting bolts.
