I had to replace a very old ironing board that was my grandmother's. It finally gave out. Well, it is not true that they don't make them like they used to. This one is fantastic! I had gone out to get a new ironing board and checked all the usual places. I was alarmed by the prices. Either you would have to spend about $25 to $35. Or nearly $100!! Wow! So I went for the higher priced of the cheaper boards. Bought 2. One at a time. And returned both. Went on Amazon & paid about $75 for this one. Easier for UPS to bring it to me rather than drag yet another big board home. Worth every penny. Please learn from my experiences. The cheaper boards were all wobbly. Nothing scarier than a wobbly ironing board with a hot iron & a can of spray sizing about to crash to the ground. This board has large & stable legs to keep it steady while you are ironing. And because this one is wider, you can iron the whole pants leg or half of a shirt without moving and adjusting them around. Nice & roomy to get the job done. If I knew then what I know now I would have bought this one in the first place.

I purchased this board from Amazon in Sept 2013 and had very high hopes for it. In fact, until today, I loved it. Sadly, after just over a year of moderate household use, one of the welds broke, causing the board to drop suddenly to the floor and very nearly inflicting a severe burn had I not moved my arm out of the way of the tumbling hot iron At nearly $100, I really expected this board to last longer than my last $20 Walmart board. I've contacted the manufacturer, but I don't expect much from them at this point. If they come through, I'll revise my review.

Edited review, as promised, following contact with manufacturer:
I contacted the manufacturer of my beloved ironing board late yesterday afternoon. I had to leave the house very early this morning to take care of some errands and returned at noon. I checked my email first thing, and there was already a reply with a FedEx tracking number for the shipment of a replacement board. I'm back in love not only with the board but with the manufacturer as well.

Now I'll take the time to address some of the things I love and a few that are less than perfect about this board.

Pro: Heavy and sturdy.....never wobbles. Yeah, it collapsed when a weld broke loose, but the manufacturer backs the product and customer service is amazing. Stuff happens, you know, and I can forgive a flaw with this kind of support.

Wide ironing surface makes ironing my big & tall husband's size 2X shirts and my daughter's khaki uniform pants so much easier and faster.

Height adjustment is a breeze, raising and lowering smoothly with no noisy squeaking like my old board. There have been times when I've opted to iron in a sitting position due to lower back pain and have been able to position the board perfectly to allow me to do so quite comfortably.

Con: I really don't like the iron platform and would prefer the option of removing it, but that doesn't keep me from loving this board. I also removed the rack that attaches under the board for folded laundry as I don't use it and it tends to get in my way.

After 16 months of moderate use, as mentioned above, the board collapsed while in use. I was quite startled by the very hot iron tumbling to the floor without warning, but I'm going to give the manufacturer the benefit of the doubt and assume that this is a rare flaw and look forward to receiving my replacement board in a few days.

I love this ironing board. I sew and quilt so I use my ironing board almost daily and my old one was your standard board and it was falling apart. I looked long and hard because, as you know if you are here, these things aren't cheap and I didn't want to have to deal with such a large item being returned, etc. I am so glad I went with this one.

I can iron large pieces of fabric faster due to the width of the board and that it isn't quite so tapered at the end. That does mean that if I want to iron sleeves on something I will need a separate small board for sleeves or learn to live with a crease. I'm good with that.

This board is sturdy. The adjustment lever works very well and it is smooth but word of warning, this is a heavy ironing board. This isn't one you can adjust one handed! The iron rest is a nice bonus that I have't gotten used to yet so I still find myself setting the iron on the board itself. I'll change the habit at some point. I also love the little wire shelf. It's not going to hold any significant weight but it's great to hold my starch my pressing sheet for applique.

Lastly, it can be adjusted so that it is tall. As someone whose back ached after standing at my old ironing board this is such a treat. An ironing board that gives me space and doesn't need me to bend at the waist to use it. Sturdy, Space, Tall = Trifecta of awesomeness.

This is a great ironing board and well worth the money!
