Finally checked Amazon and was happy to find this item available. It wasn't cheap but the build is sufficient and it held up through numerous projects.
He dug through rock littered, root filled, compacted clay and had no difficulty using the tool. We turned a hill into a 3 tiered retaining wall all thanks to this purchase. Much more efficient than a shovel.
Also trenched a walking path around the backyard, which this purchase came in handy at times. Would recommend if you need to cut out dirt quickly!

At mid 70's and with a bad back, gardening is hard for me. *%@*. My little tiller quit running and can't afford to replace it. Took the plunge and ordered this Tru Pro Eye Hoe. Sounds like a song :-). Garden wasn't turned last year, so it was pretty well overgrown, especially with quackgrass.
Picked up my new hoe, eyed up the patch of the worst grass (about 5' x 5') and started swinging. Holy cow, what a surprise! That thing is certainly not too heavy for this out of shape lady, but the head is heavy enough to cut through packed soil and grass roots. It was so awesome, I almost finished that entire patch! The next day I cleaned out that mess of roots and started on the rest of the grass. No, I did not turn the entire garden with the hoe (borrowed a tiller), but dug up most of the big weeds. The handle is long enough that I didn't have to bend and disable myself.
Bottom line, I wish I had known about these tools years ago. BUT, glad to have it now :-)
