Amazing and Versatile

Amazing and Versatile
I wanted to picture some of the things I sew with this machine, so you can see what it can do. It sews wonderfully through several layers of fabric, thick denim, and around my hand stitched accents. I upgraded to this from the cs6000i, as my skills had outgrown that machine - not to mention the wear over 3 years of every day use. Which, is where this machine review comes in handy. Here are the PROS and CONS of a seamstress who sews daily for a living!!!Pros:1- This machine can keep up. I can run it for ever.2- Can sew through at least 4-6 layers of cotton fabric with no problem.3- Tension is easy to work with. Threading is easy. Bobbin winding is easy.4- I use my machine daily. Sometimes for 2 hours, sometimes for 8 hours. Never once has it ceased working, seized up, or flat out broke. I would say I have put probably 50,000 miles on this thing in the year I have owned it. With proper care, it will keep going.CONS:1- The bobbin can get noisy and jump around doing buttonholes. One thing I learned about the button hole experience, GO SLOW. If you try to speed through it, the button hole function WILL miss fire, your lines will be uneven and the bobbin will start to act up and you’ll get long loops on the underside of your fabric. This point is a huge make/break for me, and would be the single reason why I would replace this machine.2- Lots of stitches! They are pretty!! But again, GO SLOW. Sewing the pretty stitches too fast and your fabric will bunch, stitches will be missed and it won’t look pretty.3- Arm is too wide. I can get 80% of my sleeves around it, wish it was thinner.4- That horrific noise it makes when it can’t sew through my 100 layers of fabric and the needle bends. I know, that one is my fault.. but I hate it anyway. If you were tired and sewing and accidentally made the machine to that sound, well, you’re awake now! There you have it, from a professional - NOT a beginner - seamstress. I love Brother products, every single one I have owned has been a dream. When I upgrade, you can bet I will but another one. And for you beginners, this is a fabulous machine to start on!
