So.. you're looking at reviews to decide.. "do I spend the money on this detector or do I get a lower end model?" Don't get me wrong... there are some great detectors but the AT pro is a gem. My first metal detector was a simple 2 dial bounty hunter. My buddy has the garrett ace 300 which was good but our problem was consistent. Digging up trash when saying it was good or silver especially old bullet casings and old bottle taps/caps. This AT pro eliminates alot of that with a push of a button. You can go from simple metal finding to coins to custom...it's very rugged and can be submerged down 10ft! Plus gets coins way deeper in soil... if you metal detect enough, it will pay off. My first day I pulled a silver Washington quarter and silver Roosevelt dime!UPDATE: After 5 hours of detecting, my display started to act a little fuzzy. Some parts of the display would not light up even tho if you turned to side, you can see it was very faintly lighting up. Always seemed to skip over coin mode on both standard and pro. AMAZON amazingly replaced right away and I returned the broken one.

Well I'm am very happy with this detector for the following reasons. It can be disassembled if traveling, the shaft is also adjustable to your height, it can be used in the water up to 10 feet deep, it comes with headphones that attach to the detector, there is a coil cover that can be placed on the coil to keep it from getting scratches, it has several different settings that help you depending where you’re detecting and it is lightweight .

I did some research on this metal detector n many people said good things about it, so i bought it
I used it about 4 times n so far is seems real good, it found a small bee bee n a 22 rifle shell, these were really small n it found them
I read some reveiews on different sellers of this model n some people said it seemed they got a used item, i thought the same thing when i got mine cause of the package, the package wasnt sealed n looked like it was opened up a few times, also the things inside seemed like maybe someone else bought it n returned it
I message the seller about it n he said garret dont seal the box n that is the way it comes n that the hardware should be in a sealed bag
Most my hardware was in the sealed bag except 2 washers which were already on the coil bracket part, so i guess this is just the way this product comes at times, but usually when i buy brand new stuff it somes in a sealed box n everything inside package in brand new form n you can tell it was never opened n used
Nothing seemed to be scratched up so it seemed like brand new
I was expecting a bigger longer box but it came in a smaller square box n you got to put it together, it is easy to put together n easy to use after you read the instructuons, make sure to ground balance each time before use
Also it has a pin pointer mode once you find something, you hold the pp button down until it pin points it
Make sure to go over spots 2 or 3 times swinging it
Also i would get a pick, a small shovel, n other things like a small pin pointer, cause it will make it easier for you
I got mine to find meteorites mainly n seems to pick up iron good, but i will also be looking for gold

After 6 years of hunting every type of terrain, every type of weather, dropping it, falling down, scraping it against rocks everything else that could happen, I can say this machine is very solid and durable. It will find treasure and lots of it. For an older design detector, this thing has stood the test of time perhaps more than any other out there. I've come to a point in my detecting world that I'm finally hanging this machine up in favor of a newer, multi-frequency machine, but it wont be far. It will still remain my backup machine and an extra machine that I can help new people get into the hobby with.

Excellent performance. Bit of a learning curve in PRO Audio mode. Once you understand what you are listening for it all comes together. Found coins in the first hour out of the box. Selective discrimination is awesome in trashy areas! Find it much more comfortable to hold than the "straight arm" types. Get your pin pointer and a digging tool. Be warned, you will instantly want a sand scoop for the beaches. Get the protective coil cover also. Make damn sure you have the battery door closed and locked tight if you are headed for water.

I love it! I am new to metal detecting and not very patient or good about reading lengthy instructions. previously my perception of testing and balancing the detector before being able to effectively use it, prevented me from buying earlier in my life...But the ease and speed of the step by step instructional dvd, had me on the beach successfully identifying hits, had me kicking myself for waiting so long to start!!! I am very pleased with my Garrett AT Pro and give it my highest recommendation to anyone on the fence about making the investment.
I do wish the package I bought had come with a carrying case. I purchased separately the Garrett acp camo carrying case, but admit, I am a little confused at how best to put my AT Pro into it. I have never seen a carry case that has the zipper on the opposite side of the carry handles and feel the addition of an adjustable hook and loop (velcro) strap system inside would help secure your AT pro in the excessive space within. this would allow for more efficient use of the external pouches which seem to be non specific to detecting and leftover design as a gun case. I think there is an opportunity for a universal hook and loop system. It would allow for customization to house everything in this and several other Garrett packages additional Garrett items for a beginner to aspire to owning, such as the different Garrett coils, headphones, shovels, picks and/or Pin Pointers.

The Garrett AT Pro is one of the best known metal detectors out there and for good reason. It does everything well in my opinion. My last AT Pro was ten years old and finally succumbed to a salt water leak and died on me. Ordered a new one and paid less for it than when I bought my original new. Go figure? Sending the old one in for repairs so I’ll have a refurbished one as a backup. The AT Pro is an amazing underwater detector that is truly amphibious. It’ll go anywhere. Great battery life. Well built. That said, it may not be the best beginners machine. Start with the Garrett Ace line and move from there. The AT Pro has many, many features and in Pro Mode there’s lots of signal tone to memorize. The AT Pro will find buried stuff nicely. There are other brands out there but I have a few Garrett detectors and they have rarely let me down. I’d recommend the AT Pro to any intermediate detectorist who’s serious about putting some hours on the stick to learn the machine.
