Effective little saw
I have a score to settle with the reviewers here who are mad that this foldable pruning saw does not do the job of a different tool.If you, fellow customer, want to fell small trees, bushes or other vegetation with a packable tool, this is not the tool for that. Invest in a folding bow saw (aka Spring Creek Camp Saw, or similar) or, if you are feeling adventurous, even a pad saw.If you want to prepare tree limbs for your camp fire, and need to split the limbs, this is also not the tool for that. Invest in a high quality camp axe or splitter, like an Estwing (either poly or leather handle, and either pure camp axe or combination splitter/hammer) or a compact Gerber hatchet. In short, this is a pruning saw. It prunes tree limbs. That said... This is a nifty little saw. It is light, sturdy and comfortable to use. I most recently used it to trim down low hanging branches off the tree in my backyard. If you are looking for a saw with a cast aluminum handle, a hole for a wrist loop, replaceable blades, and want to cut tree limbs up to 5.5", this is the one for you. If you need to cut larger limbs in a tight space, maybe get a hand-chainsaw. Or look at gardening tools, like the corona 10" pruner, which will let you cut limb up to 9". For my purposes, as a low-cost deadwood pruner for the occasional campfire, this works great. My first impression was mixed, as the packed blade feels very lonely in the wide opening inside the cast aluminum handle, and bends from side to side considerably. The width of the handle is for ergonomic purposes, and the advertisement correctly states that not plastic is used in the construction of this item. The saw does not wobble in its fitting. The bounce and give of the carbon steel blade is useful when working at full arm extension or overhead, as the saw forgives directional errors and is more likely to yield than to snap. The included paracord hanger is somewhat comical, but I plan on replacing it with a paracord wrist strap. In use, the rubber wrap around the body is nicely form fitted, and continues to provide good grip when palms get sweaty. The saw can be opened and stored one-handed, and has a convenient locking button (this may be illegal in your state... just saying). For maintenance, carbon steel will rust when exposed to water over time. I would recommend cleaning your saw regularly and after use with a heavy duty degreaser and a poly brush, and applying WD-40 to protect it from rust, wiping off excess.
