Product Description
The AMT 835 with Open Stride is the 3rd generation of Adaptive Motion Trainers from Precor and is the exact same unit as the commercial machines you'll find in fitness clubs worldwide. A machine as versatile as the human body and different from any other type of exercise machine, the award-winning Precor Adaptive Motion Trainer (AMT) is designed to not only work your body, but also your imagination. Go from short strides to long strides, walking to running, regular stair climber to deep lunges - all on-the-fly. The AMT gives you the freedom to customize a challenging and completely unique workout every time. Imagine getting a treadmill, bike and elliptical all in one piece of equipment. The AMT delivers similar workouts to all 3 of these machines. This single piece of equipment fully engages exercisers of all fitness levels with an infinite range of stride paths to create a uniquely effective low-impact workout, making every workout a personalized experience. Open Stride lets you not only change the length of your stride but also the height, providing an infinite variety of motion paths. Go vertical and it’s a stepper. Increase resistance and it’s a climber. Then go more horizontal and walk, jog or sprint with a stride length that goes up to 36 inches (91 cm). Three distinct positions on the moving handlebars provide a comfortable fit for nearly every user. The rodeo grip has a heart rate sensor built-in that provides monitoring and a stable, comfortable position when focusing on the lower body. Trusted by fitness professionals, Precor makes innovative equipment that meets the most demanding needs. The AMT 835 is backed by a 10-year warranty on all parts.

In the attached clip, the machine should be silent and instead sounds like belts rubbing against each other or against the frame, or perhaps a pully rubbing against the frame (I'm not sure which).
who was very qualified to diagnose the problem. The tech notified the seller and a replacement part was shipped.
The same tech came out and replaced the defective part. I couldn't be more satisfied with the product and this companies customer service. Highly Recommended!!!!
The one thing I hated immediately was the very short time-out if you stop your motion. If I am interrupted mid-workout and have to stop, my workout will be cancelled very fast = very annoying!!
Fortunately there is a 120 VAC-12 DC power supply option which does 2 important things:
1. The time-out will automatically change to the default setting of 2 minutes---much longer than the no-adapter time-out period of only 30 seconds. (The time-out period is programmable from 1 to 120 seconds.)
2. The display stays on all the time = great; no need to start your motion to turn the display on, and no need to keep having motion while programming the workout.
The bad news is Precor sells (or used to sell) the option power adapter for $400. 2 Precor support guys told me it isn't worth paying $400 for their power adapter. I agree! It is possible to find the power supply much cheaper ($15 on Amazon) but I already had that actual power supply, but without the correct connector pin.
My solution: Take off the lower right panel to access the lower circuit board. Find the power connector in the upper left corner. Get a cheap 120 VAC to 12 VDC power supply. (Precor says it is 3 amps; I used a 4 amp.)
I could not locate the strange connector needed to attached to my power supply wires so I improvised by attaching wire connectors to the 2 pins on the circuit board and then attaching the wires from the power supply to the wire connectors. I was not certain which pin was positive and which pin was negative. I took a chance and attached the positive wire to the right pin on the circuit board connector that is shaped like the letter D. And the negative wire to the left pin shaped like the letter O. See photo.
I plugged it all in and----whalaaa! Instantly lit up the console and it all works great.
I would have liked a longer time-out option---more than 2 minutes, but 2 minutes is a whole lot better than the extremely short time-out period, followed by the total turn off, without the optional power supply.
Much happier camper now.
One more tip: if you do not use the machine for a long time, then the battery can go bad. (This fact was confirmed by Precor tech support, and this happened to me.) When I tried to use the machine after several months not using it, there were 2 problems:
1. The display turned off *immediately* when motion was stopped
2. I got Error 40 every time I tried to adjust the step height---it did not work.
I first thought the machine was broken.
I bought a new battery and both problems went away.
Then added the improvised, almost zero cost power adapter and now I am *much* happier with my Precor AMT 835.

From Precor’s website:
“When you purchase from Amazon.com, standard delivery is curbside. You must receive and assemble the equipment yourself.”
“Our warranty also clearly states that it is void in the event an unauthorized person provides service to the equipment - this includes installation and set up of the product. “
Very exspensive completely non operational for months
Eventually it was replaced by the new machine after multiple calls.
New one works fine for 3 month
