Acts Like a Cat Box. Cleans Like an Appliance. Flushes Like a Toilet.
With CatGenie, your cats have an automatic cat box that's more hygienic than your own bathroom. CatGenie not only flushes away waste, it also washes and hot-air dries itself clean after every use. All you do is tell CatGenie when to clean itself (choose between automatic or manual modes).
CatGenie requires NO LITTER, only cat-approved, septic-safe Washable Granules that never need changing. When kitty goes, liquids drain through the non-absorbing Washable Granules. CatGenie scoops and liquefies the solids for safe and easy disposal down the laundry drain or toilet then cleans and hot-air dries the Washable Granules, all for your cat's comfort.
CatGenie delivers a scooped, washed and hot-air dried cat box after every use.

Product Description
CatGenie, The world's only self-washing cat box. You will never touch, change or buy cat litter again. The CatGenie Secret? Washable Granules, not litter. Collecting cat waste in a box of litter is unsanitary. Cleaning the mess out is unpleasant and carrying heavy cat litter in and of the home is just a waste. The CatGenie is dust, germ, odor, and litter free and automatically washes, sanitizes and dries itself. CatGenie has a Two-Year Warranty. Easy DIY set-up. Recommended setup locations: Bathroom (toilet) -If you have a rigid water line in your bathroom, you may need to replace it with a flexible one) or Utility/laundry room. When you purchase the CatGenie, everything needed to make your home litter free is included: The only tools needed are a wrench or a pair of pliers. Some non-standard hookups may require additional parts not provided by PetNovations, Inc. Included supplies should last 2-3 months for 1 cat and about 2 months for two cats. Several custom Cat Activation Choices- Cat 1 - 14 straight hours active, 10 hours sleep time (you choose when it is on) with a 10 minute delay after the cat uses it to clean Cat 2 - 14 straight hours active, 10 hours sleep time (you choose when it is on) with a 30 minute delay. For multiple cats giving them time to use it before it cleans Cat 3- 24-hours active, with a 10-minute delay after the cat uses it to clean Cat 4 – 24-hours active with a 30-minute delay. For multiple cats giving them time to use it before it cleans The CatGenie is the greenest cat box ever and quite possibly, the most economical. The plastic in the SaniSolution Cartridge is recyclable (unlike cat litter). Each cartridge holds 120 washes and when set on Cat Activation provide 240 washes (A year supply of Cartridges takes up less space and uses less plastic than one container/1 month's supply of cat litter).

Only issues I've had so far is that my cats kick a ton of the granules out, so I need mats around it. Also it does smell a bit when its cleaning, because after all it's grinding up the poop and mixing water with pee, so it's going to smell. But only 1 time so far (out of maybe 30 cleans) has it smelled REALLY bad like some of the reviews described, where I had to leave the basement for an hour, I don't know what was different about that one time. I have mine in the basement hooked to the laundry drainage, if you plan to have yours feed into a toilet I would rethink if it's worth it, that seems really annoying and nasty.
My cats got use to it pretty quick, once I was sure they both knew how to use this new one, I removed their old one, and they just kept using it like normal. I make sure to never run it right after they have eaten, and I also avoid running it right after they have used it, I assume it's easier for it to work when the poo is not fresh.
Lastly, THIS THING PAYS FOR ITSELF!!! I was spending $30 a month on litter, which was super heavy, and as long as I only run it once a day I calculated it to be around $10-15 a month on the cartridge and extra granules, so 2 years to pay for itself, which is insane considering it's also saving me a TON of time buying/moving heavy litter and cleaning the litter box. I didn't buy this so that it would pay for itself, it's just cool that it might, as long as it doesn't break. After a couple years, once it's paid for itself, I'll probably grab a 2nd one, just to have 2 available simultaneously and as a backup.
Oh and even though the price is high, there are so many components of this thing, I'm actually amazed it's not more, especially when you compare it to the Litter Robot. There's a water pump, solenoid for water, a sani-solution pump, a dish rotation motor, a poo grinder, a robotic arm thing, water level meter, camera sensor that tells when a cat is in the box, it's pretty crazy. Plastic seems pretty good quality, I'm glad they made it easy to clean, watch a video about cleaning it even if you haven't bought it yet, to get a feel for the components.
UPDATE- After 6 months it's still going strong, I ended up buying a 2nd one just because one of my cats was starting to pee outside the box on rare occasions when it filled up fast, but I still only want to run it once a day, because I start the cleaning cycle when I go to bed (so that I am not around for the smell, which isnt THAT bad). I've also cleaned the unit once, it was very easy to do outside, spraying with a hose, and the plastic is super high quality. The only thing I really needed to clean was removing hair from the grinder axle, which everyone should do at least twice a year. If you don't have a yard you can take it out to and spray it down after disassembling, I'm not quite sure how you would clean it, I guess bathtub but that would be pretty nasty.
Okay, there are a lot of negative reviews about the Cat Genie malfunctioning, that it’s not autonomous enough. I think we should stop and appreciate what this thing does: automatically, with a complex and intricate mechanism, it cleans and sanitizes the litter box *after every use.* You maybe want to monitor the machine every few days to make sure there’s enough granules, but other than that, it’ll beep at you if it needs something. Maybe we’re lucky, but we’ve found it really takes a couple minutes a week, on average, to keep it going.
Here’s the hiccups we ran into:
- It’s loud. Fortunately, we have an unfinished room in the basement with a laundry drain. And it runs on a schedule, so at least it doesn’t run in the middle of the night.
- The granules get tracked everywhere. We have grip mats, mats designed to catch litter, outdoor mats... but we still find them everywhere in our house, everywhere. It’s a little gross, but I personally would rather vacuum regularly than clean litter boxes. Also, you can sweep up the granules (as long as you don’t collect other debris) and return them to the machine.
- Sometimes the chemical scent is strong, but it fades, and it beats cat odor.
- Small feces sometimes fall through the scoop and if they go through the dry cycle, they’ll reek. Just remove them manually and run another cycle, maybe open a window. This doesn’t happen often.
- Plan ahead, because the cartridges aren’t Prime shipping and it won’t function if you’re out. Don’t let the cats use it if it’s offline, put out a litter box.
- It’s not a one-time expense; the granules, cleaning solution, and maintenance cartridges are expensive. To us, it was worth it, but this is something to consider and budget for.
- Does the machine get grimy and disgusting? Yeah, it does a horrible, disgusting job every day. Take the hood off and wipe it down once in a while. So far, it’s taken good enough care of itself that we haven’t had to deal with anything you shouldn’t expect to have to deal with.
- You’ll get errors from time to time, but in our experience, they’ve been very easy to solve. Just keep the manual nearby. It beeps persistently to get your attention. I’d pay $30 more for it to be “smart”, but this works well enough.
- The internal clock pauses during a power outage. It would be nice to set time of day, but this is so rarely an issue, it probably isn’t worth the hardware.
- The cleaning cycle takes a pretty long time. Not really a problem unless there’s a volume concern.
The great:
- It almost always works without a hitch. It does its job several times a day every day for months without complaint. It doesn’t demand payment. It costs substantially less than raising a child and will clean more frequently and reliably and thoroughly than they ever would anyways.
- Again, I want to stress that it cleans and washes after each use. So, no dumping and washing it out, ever. The bowl and the granules are clean.
- I’ve seen the reviews about horrible experiences cleaning out the inside. We’ve run the maintenance cartridge when it told us to, and one additional time when it seemed to be performing poorly. Never had issues. Knock on wood, the machine is still relatively young. Fortunately, they sell replacement parts as well, in case something comes up down the road. I don’t look forward to opening it up though.
- It really is liberating, to not have to worry about a daily chore not getting done, not having to ask a friend to scoop cat poop for you so you can have a weekend out, not regretting skipping it yesterday because you were exhausted or sick. Don’t take this thing for granted.
Definitely one of our favorite and most cherished purchases lately. It’s not perfect, but it does a tough job remarkably well. The Cat Genie is awesome.
