On the item itself, it works great. My stereo and dock is located in one corner of the house. I can move around fairly freely on the same floor. I haven't tested full range because I do not have a clear shot to reach 60', but I have gotten over 30' away, even with walls interfering. I have other Bluetooth devices and the range on this item far surpasses them. One is a popular Bluetooth speaker that I love, but it can't compare on range. Simply plug in, find the item on your device (I've used it on iPod touch, iPhone 4 & 5, and iPad) and connect. You do need to disconnect other devices that might be in range before you can connect to a new one, but that's simple enough to do. Plus, the fact that it retains memory of your device is good so you don't have to constantly reconnect when you start it back up if you normally only use that one device.
I've asked for another for Christmas but if I don't get it, I'll buy it myself. Can't beat this price for converting a 30-pin device to Bluetooth. Oh yeah, for those of you with an Altec iM7(white cylindrical speaker from 2006), mine did not work on that device, but I should have known better since the iM7 does not charge newer i-Products. However, the Bluetooth Music Receiver does work on a Gigaware Dock (Radioshack) and an Altec iM630. My guess is that if your dock will charge your 30-pin iPod touch or iPhone then you're probably safe and should give it a shot.
I wondered into Amazon searching for speaker options and encountered the A2DP adapter. It seemed like a real option and the price justified taking a chance.
I ordered it last week and it came in this afternoon. I am not up to date on all the new tech and had no idea what I would face, The package was very simple and easy to open, no scissors necessary. I took it out placed it on the dock and it lit up flashing blue and red light. I went to my phone searched for the Bluetooth option and it located it almost immediately and the flashing light turned fix blue .
I search for my playlist and the songs were steaming and the music was on filling the room. Then I walked to the kitchen sat my phone down at a distance of approximate 45 feet with no trouble with the reception at all.
Sound quality: There is always a some compromise on sound quality when it comes to wireless but it isn't worth several hundreds of dollars when you have a prior investment of a Bose SoundDock that can be enjoyed for years to come.
For now , If you are in a similar situation there is very little to consider, the A2DP Bluetooth Music Receiver Adapter for Bose SoundDock Speakers is a viable option that will let you add years of enjoyment to one of the best home systems available that by the way cost you a pretty penny a few years back.
Update:
Only one thing that you might not like but for the price lets be real its MINOR considering this product is not one that was originally intended for BOSE systems:
The device needs to be unplugged and reseated if the dock is powered down. But it does not make odd beeping noises randomly like a prior review stated. I have been enjoying music all morning and continue to say its a wonderful alternative to spending $ 199.99 on a new system that isn't any better to the one I already owned.
The Good News is that it works just fine. The adapter itself is small, easy to plug in, and easy to connect to various devices. The instructions included with the adapter were *very* obviously not written by a native English speaker, but the oddities in the verbiage are somewhat amusing and the instructions overall were easy to follow.
There are exactly 2 issues that prevent me from giving the BMR A2DP Bluetooth Adapter a full 5-star rating.
1) If the adapter is not actively connected to a device, it goes to sleep and the only way to "wake it up" is to unplug it, at least partially. The part of the adapter on top that looks like it should be a button of some sort is completely non-responsive.
2) Eight times out of ten, when I jiggle or completely unplug the adapter to wake it back up, the bottom panel comes off. It's easy to put back in place, and I could glue the thing in, but it's the principle.
These are minor issues in an item that does exactly what it is supposed to do, allow me to connect my Bose SoundDock to a BlueTooth device so I can keep using it to listen to music, podcasts, etc. And for $20-25, I really have no complaints.
