You have many choices regarding dust collection ducting, but flexible hose is the most common for this size of machine. Flexible rubber hose, polyethylene, plastic flex-hose and other flexible ribbed hose is generally used for short runs. These are manufactured from materials such as polyethylene, PVC, cloth hose dipped in rubber and even metal, including steel and aluminum. If using flex-hose, you should choose one of the many types that are designed specifically for the movement of solid particles, such as wood dust.

The suction is just fine - Not sure what other folks were trying to suck up that caused them to complain, It is after all a DUST collector (does well with chips and shavings too), not a "shop vac".
MUCH quieter than my shop vac as well which is a huge thing when one has it running for extended periods.
UPDATE: Both my thickness planer and my jointer cause the intake to clog with shavings and render the collector ineffective. This is because there is a safety cage at the inlet that traps larger shavings causing the clog. The cage appears to be there primarily to keep you from putting your hand into the impeller while the machine is running, and secondarily to prevent very large objects from entering and damaging the impeller. Both situations are undesirable and easily preventable.
If you never run the collector without a hose attached and never try to use it as anything other than a dust collector attached to a machine (i.e. don't use it as a "shop vac"), you can safely work around the problem (although I'm sure the mfr would not recommend this).
The cage is easily snipped away with tin snips. I've never had a problem with it sucking in as many shavings at as high a rate as my machines have been able to produce since doing this.
Just remember to NEVER run the collector without a hose attached and NEVER use it for anything other than its designed purpose - collecting dust and shavings from saws, planers, jointers and other machines.
I've been using this unit for a few months now, and have no complaints regarding how it works. It pulls plenty of air, enough to control dust and chips from a small table saw, jointer, miter saw, band saw, sanding operations on a wood lathe, and so on, as long as you only use one tool at a time. All this despite being hooked up to 20 feet of flex hose. Excellent for a small garage shop. The bag is also easy to empty, with a zipper on the bottom, so it can be emptied in place.
I have it mounted to a wall. Keep in mind, it weighs over 50 pounds, before you start suckimng dust into the bag, so make sure you hit a stud or two, and use strong screws. I also re-wired it for 240, which was a breeze. The manual included a color wiring diagram, and inside the junction box on the motor is a basic diagram as well.
Now, my only complaint. The packaging is adequate for getting the unit from the factory to a store shelf, but in no way is it prepared to protect it from the tortures inflicted upon it by UPS. The dust collector arrived with some minor cosmetic damage, mainly that the junction box on the motor had been deformed after smacking the side of the box or something. A few sheets and blocks of styrofoam is not good protection for a 57 pound piece of equipment. Fortunately it worked with no issues, so I opted to hammer out the dents rather than return it.
All in all, I am happy with it.
I was kind of surprised at how quiet this runs. Sounds about the same as a garbage disposal.
Got a used one and had to take a dent out of the motor casing... took all of 2 minutes.
All in all, I'd say get 4 inch connections only, and use on 1 tool at a time.

I built a 4" dust deputy out of roof flashing to connect to a 55 gallon plastic drum and this thing loves it. Very little saw dust ends up in the bag almost 6 months before I have to empty the drum.
Very satisfied with this unit!!!
