It held all 3 of our suitcases plus some pillows and blankets. It was a huge help for storage during the drive since my car was packed, as I had two 30 inch pet cages in the back with our 4 cats in them. We moved in December, so we were bound to encounter some sort of weather, and boy did we! On day 3 of our drive we were headed into a huge snow storm that spanned about 600 miles, which was to be our whole trip for that day. We wound up going north and out of our way to avoid driving in the snow storm all day, but we still drove in it for about 6 hours. It held up great, and the inside stayed dry even though the outside did get a good amount of snow and ice on it. There were a few hours where the roads made the drive really bumpy due to all of the ice and snow covering the ground, and it didn't budge or loosen up at all (we checked to ensure it was still secure every night when we stopped at our hotels).
I was averaging driving about 65 - 74 mph during the entire trip, and it didn't seem to be a problem. My husband was driving his car behind me the whole time, and he said when I went over about 75 mph he noticed that it would shake and bounce around more, so I tried to stay below that (but honestly I went up to 80 mph at times when passing a truck for example). I noticed that on the 2 lane highways whenever a semi truck would pass me going the opposite way, my whole car would shake and I was really worried that the lock would break or that the cargo box would go flying off my car, but it held up great and did it's job. I would often slide the cover for my sun roof open so that I could check on it and see the bottom of the cargo box from through the glass, and I noticed that it would bounce slightly as I was driving from the wind but again I was going about 70 mph most of the time so that was expected, and it didn't cause any problems. I did not notice any wind noise at all, however I did get about 5 mph less average gas mileage than usual.
It was very sturdy and got us and all of our stuff to our destination. I am happy to have it now for any future road trips, and would definitely recommend it as an inexpensive, sturdy cargo box.

It was very sturdy and got us and all of our stuff to our destination. I am happy to have it now for any future road trips, and would definitely recommend it as an inexpensive, sturdy cargo box.
When I first received this cargo I was concerned at how flimsy the actual material was. But quickly discovered it was just enough to make it as durable as possible, as light as possible, and as big as possible. They balanced all of the decisions perfectly for a product you can go get stuff done with.
Let me explain.
I recently took this on a 4000 mile road trip, in that time I noticed the following:
This thing had no durability issues, all “wobble” is side to side so while driving, all turbulence from the front is mitigated perfectly, I lost maybe 1mpg when I was expecting to lose 4-5. In addition I banged this thing on I dont know how many overhangs and the most I got was a scratch, because of how thin the material is it just bends a little to prevent any structural damage, then snaps right back into place.
As far as weight I could easily lift this thing with one hand to put it on top of my car, which leaves an insane amount of weight left for my crossbar to load even more stuff. My bars supported 150lb, this box weighs 28lb. That left me 122 lb of stuff which I easily used most of of. Most other boxes at this size weigh up to 70lb, meaning I would have to sacrifice the actual stuff it was meant to be carrying, what’s the point of having that much space if you cant use it?
Finally this thing is huge. I fit a months worth of wardrobe, all of my camping gear, a fold out table, and my car maintenance kit, weighing over 200 pounds and filling the whole thing to rhe brim, and this thing crushed it, I never had a single issue the entire time I used it.
5/5
Edit:
I’m going to leave it at a 5/5 even though from this point on, I recommend going for a nice thule box if you have the money. I still think bang for buck on a budget this box has everything you need, with some preventable drawbacks, but after about 15000 miles on this box it’s definitely starting to show.
The nice flimsy top wobble I commented on has actually gotten better with time, but in a very concerning way. The top has actually become much more flimsy over time, and this has very adverse side effects.
The box has 3 anchor points, two latches in the front, and a latch in the back. Having a flimsy top means you can easily pry open the side and just grab things, (or steal them) this same “prying” has started to be done by the winds at top speed.
The sides of the box flair up and catch some wind, this doesn’t quite act like a sail (so it doesn’t rip it off the top of your car, but who knows what would happen over another 10k miles) but I had some loosely packed items fly out on my most recent road trip, something I unfortunately could and should have prevented.
My best advice would be to just buy a 10$ ratchet strap, and strap down the box, as well as secure the extra items in the box. An annoying and cheap solution for sure, but what else could you expect for saving 400-500$ from a namebrand box.
Cheers
We bought the SportRack back in November after purchasing the Highlander, but didn't have an opportunity to use it for a trip until this last week. We drove over 1,000 miles roundtrip from Florida to the mountains. The carrier worked great. I didn't notice any additional drag on impact to steering. I wondered if it would catch more wind and cause a little more left to right movement on the vehicle. However, that was not the case. I actually forgot that it was on there most of the trip.
The carrier had two large duffel bags filled with clothes and three medium to small duffel bags filled with other items (shoes, souvenirs, etc). That left space in the Highlander for the food we were carrying on the trip and plenty of space for comfort. Everything stayed dry and didn't get too hot even though outside temperatures were 90-100 degrees for most of the trip.
Installation was easy and directions were clear. The lock on the back felt secure.
We would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a luggage roof carrier!
