I purchased these on a whim, as I enjoy trinkets and gadgets, but also have training as a first responder, albeit not up to date.I have yet to use them on the scene of a trauma, but I have used them for cutting pennies (made a penny-patterned end table), opening packages (using the strap cutter), cutting rope, cutting 1/16" thick rosewood strips to size at work, etc.The additional bonus for me was not realizing I couldn't carry my Leatherman Surge at my new job due to a ridiculous weapons policy. I had my multitool on my belt every day for 3 years, and now had nothing at all. These shears helped fill a void there and also replaced a pair of tin snips on the job for the aforementioned rosewood strips, for which they did a much better job.One thing to avoid, do not use the ring cutter for any harder metals. I went to use it for a key ring that I couldn't get to open (had the keys on it yet) and the edge of the cutter has chipped and is no longer usable except on soft metals like copper or a 24K gold. The angle of the belt sheath opening is tool-adjustable (phillips head screwdriver) in increments of 45 degrees or smaller. Sheath accommodates normal width and tactical width belts tightly and rather securely.Do not use on a back pack strap or carrier bag strap, as it needs the pressure from your body/pants/vest to maintain a secure position.

I waited a while before posting a review because I really wanted to put these scissors through some hard use before recommending them. First off I work on an ambulance full time for a busy company and use this tool every shift. Every feature was really well thought out. The scissors themselves cut very well and have really good edge retention so far. They cut through clothes and belts really well. The feature that is probably used the most besides the scissors is the built in o2 key- no more searching the o2 bag for the wrench turning the portable bottles on and off all day(worth it by it self). I initially was using the plastic holster which I really liked- because you could either keep the scissors unfolded and ready to go or fold them up and have the nice compact package/ but working 24 hour shifts I stopped using that feature because trying to lay down in a bed it was always poking my back or side. Now I carry them folded up in my pocket like a pocket knife which solves all of that! and I found unfolding them is so fast I don't really ever leave them open. If I worked a 12hr truck I would probably utilize the holster more. The other features are really just nice additions- the seat belt cutter works but, gets way more use opening boxes restocking the ambulance! The wound measuring markers are great for measuring lacs- I read a bunch of reviews that say that their lettering on the outside was fading but I have washed mine and cleaned them with cavicide and had no problem with fading. The other day we did a bunch of extrication practice and i tested out the window punch on the back and it worked decent took me a few hits to get the pressure right. But if you just had what you were carrying on you- it does the job. The only feature I haven't used is the ring cutter so we will wait for that lol but overall I am impressed with the scissors and I will be buying them from now on. I would recommend them to anybody that works in the emergency medical field.

I am an EMT-B and a nursing student. I used to use the crappy shears reps hand out but got tired of them dulling after like two weeks. These are heavy duty, multi-purpose and can be sharpened (though I doubt I'll find a need for quite some time). Personally I like any tools I use to have a warranty and you can't really argue with what leatherman offers. I clip these to the back of my scubs so I can't speak to the case but it seems very durable. The ring cutter is a nice addition if in a pinch, but there is a better way to remove a ring without cutting it (some Aussies posted a video on youtube using the elastic strap from a NRB). Now 60 bucks is a bit steep for shears considering even the really good fluoride coated ones go for about 10 bucks, but with the warranty, seat belt cutter (which can be used to quickly remove clothing after an initial snip with the shears) and the compact design sold me. Worth the money.

Now I am fully aware lettermen rafter sheers are expressly designed as trauma shears for paramedics, doctors and other medical professionals to deal with issues like opening the oxygen tanks and removing clothing such as pants and shirts to prepare a patient for surgery. However, I use them for a different purpose. They are my go to cutting option on a daily basis. You see I have a physical disability that limits my dexterity which can make opening everyday items such as a candy bar or a bag of chips and other items that able-bodied people often take for granted, very difficult. And I do not generally like to use a standard pocket knife for opening most things because if my hands don't feel like cooperating. There is a distinct possibility I could cut myself while opening a package. So I prefer to use scissors, and I had used many brands of pocket scissors over the years and while most of them are good at cutting paper and a lightweight packages. Sometimes you need something with a little bit more strength. For instance when cutting string or parachute cord or something of that nature so I came across the raptor sheers and saw them cutting through pennies and nickels like they were butter. I decided to give them a try, and I can honestly say that they will cut their way through just about anything. Most people are likely to encounter on a daily basis. They are definitely a safer option for someone with limited dexterity or poor hand control. As you are far less likely to cut yourself and you would be using a standard pocket knife as it is rather difficult for your hands or skin to come into contact with the cutting edge of the sheers which means things can be opened safely without worrying about accidentally cutting oneself.

I have even used the thumb hole as a leverage point for opening soda bottles with the sheers in the open position and the blades closed of course. And for those instances when a straight blade is required, such as opening a package, I find that the seatbelt cutter works phenomenally, because again on my fingers are completely out of the way of the open blade. Even when the sheers themselves or in the closed position, the raptor, sheers are worth every penny. As I use them on eating basis for the past several months and they have worked flawlessly. Although they are somewhat larger in profile with any standard pocket knife, they are not any heavier to carry than a classic 110 buck knife. And unlike most conventional scissors that I have carried these can be completely broken down for easy sharpening in cleaning, should they become dirty.

So if like me you have limited dexterity or in conditions such as arthritis. That makes manipulating a standard pocket knife, a rather dicey proposition. I suggest giving the raptor trauma shears they try as they are like having the job of an alligator in your pocket!

I'm gonna start this review by reviewing Leatherman as a company. I broke my clip at no fault of the product at all. I got it caught on the seat belt in the bulldozer I was running and when I went to get it out, it bent out and broke off. I emailed Leatherman to see if I could purchase another one and the told me no. They don't sell the clip by itself. Before I was able to get bummed out though, I read on and she asked me for my address so that they could mail me one free of charge.

That impressed me. I broke the tool all on my own, it was not a failure of the tool at all and I made that known when I emailed the company. They still made sure that I was happy with the tool and mailed me the new part anyway. Awesome service!

On to the tool. Yes, it is every bit of amazing as it looks. Very well built and very handy to have. It's even fairly comfortable in your hand, which impressed me seeing as how it folds up and tucks away.

If your thinking about buying one, stop, you just need to buy it!

Note: these wre a gift for my Wife and Ive asked her to dictate this review:
These are possibly the best money my husband has ever spent on me (not including my engagement ring). As a NP (Nurse Practitioner) who has worked all over the world and in some countries i can’t pronounce, i have had to make due with “safety scissors” that kids use in school, to cut bandages and other items that i wont get into for the weak of stomach. If i knew these existed all those years ago, i would have given anything for a pair! They could literally cut through bone (NO humans were harmed in the taking of these photos) denim, Carhartt “denim” just to name a few of the tough fabrics i have had to use these on. I have cut through the to straps on overalls as well, without any issue! My hands are not super strong, they are small or XS in a glove but these fit my grip without issue and my husband has had to use them as well (not in the medical world, heaven help us 🙄!) and his hands are huge and he can pick up a basketball with one hand, yet these fit his grip just as well and work just as effectively for him. Certainly keeping them sharp would always be a priority or you could be setting yourself up for failure or requiring a strong grip which isnt needed with a sharp instument/tool. I have not used them enough to let them get to the potential “dull” stage and something tells me that that is going to take a long time and a LOT of cutting through Carhartts (and not making friends when i have to!).
They have a feature that i tried to show in the photos, which is that they can go into the belt holster open or collapsed. Either way, they are in securely. I personally keep them collapsed as i am petite and were they to be carried open, they would jab my waist and there is a safety issue on the floor in ER, in that, if they can be taken off of you, they can be used against you. So, collapsed it is for me. A couple of the EMS guys wear theirs open and I think it could be because they can just grab and cut where we definitely have to do the same but everyone finds their own way of handeling their gear that works best for them. Super versatile and seriously the best made Med Shears I have ever used. I called them a multi tool once but was informed they are not a “Swiss Army Knife” which is true but i wouldnt want to have a spoon or fork on them to eat as I know where they have been! But yes, they have MULTIPLE uses! Money WELL spent and while most wives want spakly things, im a gadget girl and love having the best of the best in my kit. Definitely getting a second pair for a “GO” bag! Lastly, hubby researched from A-Z and these were the best priced ones out there! There are different colors available but weren’t available on Amazon and quite frankly, color doesn’t matter.
Everyone bleeds red.

I've used X-shears before and they are FANTASTIC, have a pair in in my home and car trauma kits. But there is no comparison with Leatherman. By far the best quality and in true Leatherman tradition extremely versatile with extra tools make all the difference. Despite having other shears the Raptor shears are the ones I carry on my personal bag/ifak and the ones I use at work. They are so useful for so many things aside from being a medical tool. The fact that you can disassemble them for cleaning and fold them to put away just shows the great attention to detail that goes into making leatherman tools.
