About this item
- ★★★★★ EFFORTLESS CUTTING - The ratchet in the pruner is a clever extra mechanism to make light work of tough cuts. As you squeeze ratcheting pruning shears, they latch so you can release and squeeze again, performing the cut in easy steps rather than one go. As you cut through a branch, the ratcheting mechanism clicks and moves to the next setting, providing ever-increasing pressure as you cut.
- ★★★★★ 5 TIMES THE POWER - The ratcheting mechanism's settings multiply your hand's power by up to 5 times, so that you don't have to do the work - the pruning shears do it for you. With
- ★★★★★ HIGH QUALITY HARDENED STEEL BLADES - Heat treated and hardened carbon steel blades are ultra strong, will last longer and are less likely to nick or need frequent sharpening. Coated with non-stick Teflon that resists sap and other sticky materials.
- ★★★★★ ERGONOMIC COMFORTABLE DESIGN - If you intend to prune frequently, you'll appreciate the way that a ratchet pruner will reduce wrist strain, require less pressure to cut, and generally make the pruning experience much more enjoyable. If you do a lot of pruning, this can make a huge difference in hand fatigue. Ideal if you are already starting out at a disadvantage with carpal tunnel or arthritis, or have smaller hands.
- ★★★★★ 100% CUSTOMER SATISFACTION GUARANTEE - Order with confidence! The Gardenite 100% customer satisfaction guarantee means exactly that. We will fix any problems quickly and to your 100% satisfaction every time! We are always available to help our customers. Our customer service record is unmatched!

Product Description
RATCHET PRUNING SHEARS - 5x MORE CUTTING POWER
EFFORT LESS CUTTING
The ratcheting mechanism's settings multiply your hand's power, so that you don't have to do the work - the pruning shears do it for you. They slice through much thicker branches than conventional pruners, and they're very easy on your hands. Because they work like a ratchet, they never get dull. The extra power of the ratchet action makes these pruners ideal for heavy jobs.
HOW RATCHET ANVIL PRUNING SHEARS WORK
Anvil pruners have one sharp blade normally the top blade and a flat, non-cutting blade, or "anvil" at the bottom. When you squeeze the handle, the sharp top cutting blade is brought down on the branch you're cutting, and the anvil holds that branch in place so that the cut can be completed.
RATCHET ACTION - 5 TIMES THE POWER
The ratcheting mechanism's settings multiply your hand's power by up to 5 times, so that you don't have to do the work - the pruning shears do it for you. As you cut through a branch, the ratcheting mechanism clicks and moves to the next setting, providing ever-increasing pressure as you cut.
PERFECT FOR SMALLER HANDS AND WOMEN
Pruning can tire the strongest hands, but if you are already starting out at a disadvantage with carpal tunnel or arthritis, or have smaller hands, you should definitely consider a ratchet pruning shear.

Before I tackled the burning bushes I decided to go online and see if any engineers who were into gardening had also gotten older like I had and had invented a better pruner. I found this Gardenite Power Drive Ratchet Pruning Shears that claimed to be just the thing. They said they would do more with less work from me. That is just what I was hoping for! They are about twice the price of the Fiskars, but I was willing to try.
Comfort-wise, they were very similar. The feel in my hand was about the same, but I could tell that the Gardenite were lighter. Almost too light it seemed, but I knew in the long run it would be better for my hands. I decided to try them out on a branch that had been too much for my Fiskars. With the Fiskars you just have to force your way through. If the first cut doesn't make it, you turn the blade or just squeeze harder. I didn't fully understand how the ratchet worked at first. The first squeeze took the blade partway through the branch and then stopped. The important part is that it stopped and latched. This meant that when I went to squeeze the handle the second time, instead of just having to add pressure to my initial cut, I was starting a new cut from that spot. It turned one large branch into 2 or three small cuts.
These will be my new go-to pruning shears. They worked well on the fresh and dead branches. I didn't have anything thicker than 3/4 inch, but it went through it like butter. I am sure it will tackle thicker branches (up to a point) equally well. Maybe I should look and see if they make a bigger version of loppers so I can do the pear tree next. ;)
try it with normal cutters, bypass cutters... you can't even nick it, why I do not know but for the hech of it I tried to cut this super hard bamboo, knowing it would never of course be able to, IT CUT IT LIKE BUTTER HARD 3/4 INCH DRIED BAMBOO !!!! this is by far better than i could imagine anything could cut, I need a special super sharp bamboo saw to cut this stuff, this has crazy power !!!!! the lock button.... use a drop of oil at the point that it slides on to to lock, and squeeze the handle when locking it, it will lock like a dream then, I am a tool guy, very much into that kind of stuff, THIS IS WELL MADE !!!! NOT JUNK BY ANY MEANS !!!! GOOD STUFF HERE!!!! also look at the handle , it dosen't have a loop handle it has normal handles, you can slip in into your pocket way easier than the others designs, the fit and finish.. excellent!!! congraadulations on making the best one of these ratchet "smooth as glass super cutters!!!! " I think if your trying to decide "what to buy" to ...cut stuff in the garden, camping, or just want to own the best ratchet cutter that you can get your hands on, get this one and you'll be happy!!! I know I am! any time you buy any brand new tool, oil it and wipe off the excess oil first, go over all of the points that move, everything gets smooth as glass then, nobody tells you that when you buy a new tool, so I will make sure I tell you all that, your tools will work better from day one, and last a lot longer that way. I hope this review helps the next guy trying to buy a tool like this, this is by far the best one, get this one! Awesome tool! it makes cutting stuff fun and easy. get cha one!
> I found that I can cut 3/4" thick branches fairly easily, and therefore, with the Power Drive Pruning Shears, I don't have to carry around a lopper (in addition to a pruning shears) "just in case" I need to cut a thicker branch.
> Ratched loppers should be particularly useful for folks who (because of arthritis or some other condition) do not have a strong grip. But even for folks with strong grip, ratched loppers are be less tiring if you have alot of pruning to do.
> These are anvil pruners, which mean that they have one blade and cut like a cleaver on a cutting board.
The other option is bypass pruners
BYPASS vs ANVIL: Bypass pruners are analogous to scissors, with two blades which move past one another. Anvil pruners are analogous to a cleaver and cutting board, with 1 blade and an anvil to which the blade cuts. Bypass pruners usually cut more cleanly with less crushing, which is usually better for the plant. Anvil loppers may not easily cut completely through very fibrous stems. Power Drive pruners are bypass.
> Generally, bypass pruners cut cleaner and with less damage to the stem of your plants. So, us bypass pruners for delicate work -- such as cutting rose stems, sculpturing topiaries, deadheading lilies, etc. For actually pruning thick roses stems or cutting dead branches, or cutting anything larger than 3/8" use an anvil pruner.
PRUNERS vs LOPPERS
> Generally, you can carry a pruner in your pocket (but not a lopper).
> Normally, pruners are best for stems and branches up to ⅜" diameter, and loppers are best for branches greater than ¾" diameter. Racheting anvil pruners (like the Power Drive Pruning Shears) are best for 3/8" to 3/4" branches, but can cut smaller stems.
> Pruners are used 1-handed; loppers are used 2-handed. If you need to hold a stem or branch while you cut, or you want to collect the cut stems as you work, a pruner is your best choice. Loppers are less tiring if you are cutting alot of thick stems, particularly if you have a weak grip for some reason. Loppers (particularly extendable handle loppers) give you far more reach, so that you don’t have to bend over, or resort to a ladder. The reach can also help protect you from the thorns of roses, etc.
> Loppers also come in simple, geared, compound, and ratchet designs (as well as anvil or bypass designs in each of the 4 categories). In loppers, usually, you want a geared, compound or ratchet design. If you have a Power Drive Ratchet Anvil Hand Pruning Shears you can also up your game in loppers, and go for a ratcheted lopper. However, I still use a compound lopper, and an electric saber-saw, or chain saw, for anything too big for the big compound loppers). I've permanently retired a half-dozen other pruning shears and loppers. Now, I only use 1) a bypass pruning shears for delicate work, 2) a ratchet anvil (Power Drive) pruning shears for all-round general work, and 3) a compound anvil lopper for heavy duty work.
