Best sturgeon rod I've ever used.
5 Stars
Best sturgeon rod I've ever used.
I've used several different baitcasting and spinning rods while fishing for lake sturgeon. If you're not familiar with fishing for sturgeon, it's very similar to fishing for catfish with slip sinkers/bait, except they bite very lightly at times. Rarely do they "grab" the bait and run with it. Tip sensitivity is very important for bite detection, but the rod has to have enough backbone to handle a potentially 100+ lb fish. 10 minutes into using this rod for the first time I had a 56" sturgeon on the line. The rod loaded up nicely on the hookset and handled the fish just fine. No worrisome groans/creaks when the fish ran several times like other rods I've used in the past. Over the next 3 days I landed another 7 fish, most of them over 40", but none bigger than the first. The rod was definitely an upgrade over anything I've used in the past, including one that was much more expensive.

Out of the Box very pleased with this rod. The feel is great, the stainless steel eyelets are a huge plus over plastic or ceramic. I paired this rod with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DDKDI6Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 KastKing rover and they are a good match.
Will be using this for both cat fishing and trolling for striper. Some will say Med-Heavy is not right for Striper but I feel using with planers will compensate for the action. Will find out.

Update on trolling: So this past season(2018) I got a bit of trolling in, both with crankbaits and live. Didn't have any luck with plastics but with live bait did. I used this rod with the Kastking Rover 40 with 30lb braid to 20lb mono with 3way swivel. 1oz lead on the bottom line of swivel and 20lb mono on the 90, to circle hook with live minnows. This rod was off the back end to a Redirig float 4" and had more hookups than other rods out. Now we can't say that was because of the rod as I had each line set for different depths and use variation of planer boards, planer float, and float.
The point is: The stiffness of the rod played no toll when used with the float, if it would on the planer board, I can't say for certain, but I would guess that would not be an issue either. Therefore this rod can double up for trolling be it strippers or other.

I bought 2 of these rods I received them in good condition.I have rods that cost twice as much and don't look any better the finish looks thick the eyes are heavy made and look like they would hold anything. They have plenty of backbone but a soft tip that works well for circle hooks. The tips have some give and bounce with a 3 oz sinker and cast well with heavier weights.I wrapped the handle space on the butt with two layers of para cord and it came up level with the grips so they fit my rod holders better now. These rods seem great and I would not hesitate to buy more if I didn't have so many rods

For the money this rod is awesome. Looks and feels of high quality. Used this rod on two catfishing trips so far and handled 10 lb-24 lb catfish very well. Going in the morning for early bite and looking forward to wearing some more out!

This rod is really nice I’ve had it for almost a month. I’ve caught multiple catfish in the 5 pound range and a few stripers around 5 also and it works great. My only problem was the box it came in was junky it was 2 boxes put together and a very small problem was the guide on the tip of the rod was lose but I fixed it with super glue now it’s good as new.

This is a Great Rod for monster Flatheads, and it is the best value for your buck. However, it’s not the Action I wanted. I did a lot of research before I bought this Rod, including calling the Company many times and going over the power ratings of their different rods. From the beginning I wanted the Medium Action RL76M-1C, in my opinion it is their best all-round Rod. The problem was Amazon only carried the Medium Heavy Action Rod RL76MH-1C. You could order the Medium Action from the maufacture however they charged an additional $26 Dollars to ship it. This Rod in my opinion should be classed as a Heavy Action Rod, it's fine if you are catching 70 to 100 pound Flatheads, or even some White Sturgeon on the West Coast, but its a slight overkill for anything under that. Amazon right now does not sell the Rippin Lips Super Cat Medium Action Rod, and the manufacture has called Amazon many times to get this resolved but as I am writing this review it hasn’t happened.

These rods have performed like those costing at least 2-3 times more. The group I catfish with all use these paired with Abu Garcia C3 reels and we have caught literally hundreds of blues, flat heads and channel cats with them and never had on symptom of possible failure. They are sensitive enough to see when the 2 pounders are playing with the bait and be able to set the hook, as well as reeling in fish over 50 pounds. Numerous 25-30 pound fish have been put in the boat this year and never thought twice about a rod failure. Fishing river current we typically use between 3 and 5 ounces of weight plus bait and the rod tip is still responsive to the 2 pound fish. Great rods and at this price point the value is very tough to beat.

OK I have or should say had 4 of these that I ordered over the last 2 years. These are pretty good poles AT FIRST. I have landed some big fish with these poles including 40+ lb Redfish and 6+ foot sharks. I always store/transport my poles with the hook, hooked onto one of the lower eyes. Three of the 4 rods have suffered tip breakage just by unhooking the hook from the lower eyes. The third one happened on a trip this weekend. Photo attached. I is UN-believable how easy these things just snap off. I have two friends that also have these rods and one of them experienced the same breakage on one of their rods last year.

Amazing casting. Very strong and the guides are no longer a concern (breaking or insert pop out). Perfect blend of graphite and glass. One thing I recommend is to regularly clean the guides especially when fishing saltwater. Chrome looks good but rusts and gets corroded if neglected. Pulls in big saltwater fish just fine. Highly recommended.
