Not quite the presence of the Eco Drake II or the American Standard Cadet PRO in my hotel room last week, but works as expected and saves precious space. (If I’d seen the Cadet PRO in action before buying the Entrada I probably would have gotten that instead.)
That said, I got a tremendous deal with an additional limited-time discount from Amazon. Wish now I’d bought another for downstairs. Shipping was fairly quick and packages arrived very well-packaged and undamaged. Minor anxiety as the bowl arrived a day before the tank, but under the same tracking number, so both Amazon and Fedex reported the tank as Delivered when it hadn’t yet been. A little patience and the tank arrived. Plumberstock was very communicative and showed concern.
Previous toilet was a Kohler 3.5 gpf bowl to which some genius attached a 1.6 gpf tank. It had a very weak flush that I simply could not live with. I chose to have a plumber do the install; he was impressed with my choice. Glad I did as the previous installer also hopped a bunch of silicone caulk around the wax ring area for no good reason. (Flange and subfloor were ok but had to be scraped clean.) it’s not that a toilet is difficult to install, but that you don’t know what you’re in for when you pull the old one off.
This has all the right and necessary features of the Drake, uses 1.28 gpf, and is also chair-height. I’m back to paying my own water bill after 15 years so I will enjoy the extra savings. No Sanagloss that I’m aware of; my previous TOTO had it and I didn’t really notice a benefit over 8 years. Same fill valve, flush valve and trapway. Fills fairly quickly after a flush. The flush and fill are noisy as per TOTO’s reputation. The bowl is more like the regular Drake which was different for me. I get the same initial “glug” sound that another reviewer noted. I didn’t think I’d like the “straight down” bowl flush (versus the Drake II cyclone) but it seems to clean well and is simple. (Actually the cyclone flush in the Drake II didn’t clean as well as expected, so this might be better, we’ll see.) The siphon works well but I really enjoyed the confidence-inspiring “visual effect” of the Cadet PRO much more.
I did a test where I poured in a liter of water with a few squirts of bluing solution added. After a single flush, there was still a very minimal but visible light blue tinge to the bowl water. So now I hold down the handle when I flush and it’s all-clear. It doesn’t seem to double-flush if I hold the handle down, but if I need to flush twice I just wait about 20-ish seconds and flush again.
