The Trail Pro Shock by Black Diamond is a true all-rounder on the hiking trail. The pole has an integrated shock absorber that absorbs additional energy when walking. The trekking pole also has a dual-density grip attachment and a 360° padded strap strap for extra grip and safety, even in rough terrain. The non-slip foam handle extension is particularly practical for crossings on slopes. The plates of the stick are interchangeable and thus the trail is easily converted from summer to winter stick. Thanks to the FlickLock adjustment system, the trekking poles can be easily adjusted to the desired size. This also resists torsional loads, so that the stick does not push itself together unintentionally. Trail Trekking Poles - prepared for all eventualities.
Control Shock Technology
Offering damp and progressive 4-stage shock absorption, Control Shock Technology handles hard compression without bottoming out and controls rebound for a smooth and comfortable feel.
Dampeners beneath the grip provide progressive spring rates from light strikes to heavy downhill plants. Rebound control located within the grip prevents ineffective and annoying pogo-ing for a smooth and quiet feel.

I do fine on level ground and climbing, but my knees are starting to talk to me on the descents. It has taken little practice for me to start using the poles rather naturally to take some of the stress off the knees as I go downhill. Must admit the poles also provide a boost on the level and when climbing. Work the poles hard and the upper body gets a great workout along with the legs.
The quality of the poles are first class and they look like they'll last a good, long time. They adjust quickly and easily. After reading reviews, I questioned whether the shock mechanism and related weight was a good idea. So glad I opted for the shock function. Really cushions the impact here in the rocky desert and if anyone thinks it makes the poles too heavy, they really need to spend some time in the gym.
After reading and reading reviews I decided to pull the trigger on these BD pro shocks, and I'm glad I did. I have about 30 or so miles on these poles now. It was a short learning curve to establish a good rhythm on level ground, and once I got my uphill stride together, I was good to go…still working on downhill my pace, and control, but these sticks have already saved me 3 out of the 5 times I have stumbled, all of which were my fault…speed.
Only feel the shock absorbers occasionally. I have put a lot of weight on these poles, I can see them flex a bit, but I have had no issues with their resiliency, wish my 60+ year old knees were the same. The poles hold the length I have set, there has been no slippage with the clamps. Not yet sure how I feel about the way the tips attach to the poles, but for now they are not going to come loose. As they are required for the trek, I have also purchased the both the BD rubber tech tips, and the pole tip protectors.
With zero issues or complaints, I have no problem recommending these poles, totally worth the money.
Edit 2/8/16 The poles did work just as I hoped they would during the trek. Especially on the long downhills, they really gave my 60+ y/o knees much needed support. On this trip, I liked the BD rubber tech tips better. The tip protectors hung up in cracks more than a few times, the tech tips never did. Still 5 stars for me.
I did have a problem by the end with one of the shocks and I talked to Black Diamond and they helped me out with it. 6 stars on the customer support.

Glad we got them worth the money (the sale helped)
