Safe Fire & Water Ratings 101
It’s easy to be fooled if you don’t know what to look for in a safe’s fire rating. Familiarizing yourself with UL and ETL standards helps you better understand what it takes to keep your valuables protected.
It's important to ensure fire protection claims are certified by a qualified party
Not all safes that claim to be "fireproof" or "fire protected" are the same. That's why standards were created and organizations like UL and ETL work to test and certify product claims so consumers can trust the products that they are buying.
UL Fire Rating (Fire Resistance)
Fire resistance ratings are mainly determined by a product’s ability to endure two factors: time and temperature. During a Fire Endurance test, items like paper are put inside the safe, then heat is applied to the outside to quickly raise the temperature to up to 1850°F to simulate real-world burn conditions. To receive the highest UL rating, the internal temperature cannot exceed 350°F for the duration of the specified test. The time and temperature will vary depending on the certification.
UL stands for Underwriters Laboratories and is an independent, nonprofit testing lab for consumer, commercial, and industrial products. UL is globally recognized and considered the gold standard for testing and certification of product claims, largely because they created the standards. Safes that have been certified by UL are of the highest quality and offer the highest level of fire protection available, meaning your safe can withstand high temperatures for an extended period of time.
ETL Verified (Water Resistance)
When people think of waterproof safes, the first thing that often comes to mind is flooding. But it’s important to remember that if your house experiences a fire, there could be significant water from sprinkler systems or fire hoses that could damage your valuables if your safe is not rated for water protection.
ETL Verified is a product verification mark (issued by Intertek) that is used to ensure manufacturers meet their own internal test requirements. Organizations seek an ETL verification for specific claims, like water testing, where there isn’t an existing standardized test. ETL verified waterproof products are vigorously tested to remain dry even through extreme exposure to water for up to 72 hours. So, even if you’re away from your home during times of peril, you can be confident your valuables are safe.
UL Explosion Hazard Testing
While fire damage is the primary concern in a house or business fire, there are other residual effects that can be just as damaging to your safe. If a safe is stored on a second floor, there’s a chance that it could fall through the floor if the structure becomes unstable from fire damage, so it needs to be able to withstand that impact. Likewise, explosions are another source of potential damage for a safe. That’s why fire rated safes also undergo impact and explosion tests as part of UL testing. Be sure to look for these certifications on your safe.
UL Impact Resistance Testing
UL impact resistance testing: During an impact test, a safe is heated to the same time and temperatures used in the Fire Endurance test, then dropped from a height of 15 feet*. To receive a UL certification, the safe must remain intact without opening or sustaining significant damage.
*Applies to SentrySafe 2-hour fire safes only

...recently went through a fire here in West Maui, hence the purchase!
ALOHA!
After getting it to its destination I opened it up (upside down, but thats my fault) and the vault was already unlocked, but it a closed manner, and had all of the paperwork (lifetime warranty, readme, license, etc) in the box but outside of the safe. The code for the safe comes on a sticker on the back of the readme booklet and it CANNOT BE CHANGED.(The company states that this can be a benefit to the user if you choose to register your safe with the company; they can retrieve your code) It also comes with two keys, the keys do not override the combination lock, only adds another layer of security (which I enjoy).
Also, I would like to take some time to explain a CON that most people would complain about that I'd like to bring to justice a little bit.. The hinge for the safe is on the outside of the container as you can see on the picture, however the hinge is very solid and bolted together on both ends, it would take a mass amount of force to break the seal off of the hinges also. But lets say that an intruder DOES break the hinge off; the way the indentions inside of the safe are made, you will not be able to pull the lid off of the same without being able to close the metal bars of the door, which will not happen without the key or code (or both) if it is locked.
Safe was also made possible to bolt into the floor and it comes with the bolts and nuts to do it, but I find it unnecessary.. it will be hard enough getting it out the door.. I suggest putting the safe under a desk, shelf, or under some items that can add to the complexion of removing your safe. (Adding 30 pounds of items into your safe will already change the weight to over 120 lbs)
PROS: Heavy, very secure, change-able shelf racks, dual security feature, keyring hangers, waterproof, fireproof, worth the price, comes with one absorbent pouch which will last for a while.
CONS: Cheap inner shelf (Not for things over 15-20 pounds), password cannot be changed*, may sit unevenly**
*The company (Sentry Safe) states that the code cannot be changed and it for YOUR security, just in case you lost your password they can send you your code or key again.. if your like me your questioned reasoning and security behind this, but hear me out.. In order for you to get another copy of your code/keys you have to fill out a form that they send you (originally, with the safe) and you have to fill it out entirely, giving your first/last name, address, and all the usual stuff, and also your unique ID number for your safe.. Well that happens to be located inside your safe and on the sticker with your password on it, so if you wish, you could keep it a secret or even destroy the ID number so not even the company who designed the safe will be able to tell what code/key you need. Hope that clarifies questions.
**I also believe I have an uneven floor, but I've read another guy's review stating the same thing.. I just slipped the package of screws they gave me under the corner.
VERDICT: I love my safe, Im sure they're are better and more secure beasts, but for the money you CANT beat it, it gets the job done.
Hope I've helped,
Cheers!

Phoned the manufacturer who instructed me to dissassemble the rear front of the safe (it was clearly a very common problem!) revealing it was indeed entirely a plastic locking assembly..!
Utter unreliable piece of junk, on top of which was the apparent moisture problems
(I was planning on storing my camera in there, as per their photos!)
Trying to return it can be a nightmare also - as you need the original packing material, and I doubt even batman could get this safe out without ripping apart the packaging materials totally!
Just Avoid!!!!

My wife and I needed a safe place for important documents and whatnot.
This safe is exactly that. Super heavy, can bolt down if you dont need water tightness. Not sure how it would work with fire
Surprisingly spacious inside, but wouldnt be useful for anything other than small items like jewelry, documents, cash, etc
The dial works great and so does the key. I like how you need to have both in order to open the safe. Makes it way more secure.
Only downside to me is the plastic handle. But besides that everything else works great.
Cant speak on the fire rating because we havent needed it just yet. But based on the thickness of the walls, im gonna guess that your stuff would be pretty safe in case of a fire
Safe was returned on the 3rd of December 2022. But till now no refund has been received.
