How does DryEasy bedwetting alarm work?

DryEasy bedwetting alarm is a device used to train the users to respond to a full bladder by waking. The users will be woken by the alarm as soon as bedwetting occurs. Such process can gradually condition the brain to respond when the bladder is full and eventually overcome bedwetting problem.

This product is intended for use by persons 5 years of age or older.

Tips

Tips for alarm training

1) Parents play an important role in particular at the initial stage of alarm treatment in waking your child as soon as the alarm goes off and are therefore recommended to sleep in the same room with your child for the first 2 weeks of using the alarm. Gradually, the child will be able to respond to the alarm on his/her own.

2) The position of the sensor is important. For boy, it could be better to clip the sensor to the inside flap of their underwear as the sensor can detect the urine quicker. For girls, the sensor should be attached on the crotch area since it is most likely to get wet first.

3) The underwear should be close fitting which is closer to the body and therefore urine will be detected by the sensor more quickly. DO NOT use loose boxer shorts.

4) While alarm training is an effective way to overcome bedwetting, it is not 100% successful. Motivation and persistence increase success rates.

Paper clip test

Tips for using this product

1) The sound of this alarm is loud, which can be startling for the first time. Please adjust the loudness as needed and choose your preferred sound.

2) In case the alarm does not wake the child, the parent needs to wake the child up when the alarm goes off until the child is trained to wake up on his/her own.

3) This alarm is not waterproof. Do not attach the alarm to underwear to avoid urine from entering the alarm. In the unlikely event that the alarm malfunctions due to wetting, we are ready to help you troubleshoot.

4) This alarm has a two-step turn off feature. The correct way to stop the alarm is to unclip the sensor and then press the reset button. This is to prevent the child from stopping the alarm too easily and falling back to sleep.

5) To test if the alarm unit is working properly, use a paperclip to touch the two metal prongs inside the socket of the alarm unit (see photo for reference). The paper clip has to touch both prongs at the same time.

FAQ and Troubleshooting Tips

1) I can't get the alarm to stop going off.

This alarm has a two-step turn-off feature. The purpose of this feature is to ensure that the child needs to get up when they wet the bed. The correct way to stop the alarm is to unclip the sensor and press the reset button. Alternatively, you can hold the reset button down while you unclip the sensor from the wet underwear. (Pressing and holding the reset button snoozes the alarm, even with the sensor still attached to wet underwear.)

You may read the User Manual in the section "Product guides and documents". Alternatively, you may watch the video with the title "How to connect the sensor and turn off the alarm" on this page above.

2) It is difficult to clip the sensor to underwear.

The clip is designed to securely attach the sensor to the underwear, so it doesn't come off during sleep. It's easy to attach. You can master it by practicing a few times. Tips: It is much easier to attach the sensor by pulling the kid's underpants down to his/her knees. Please watch the video on the detail page for reference.

3) I can't get the alarm to stop sounding even after unplugging the sensor.

It may be that the inside of the alarm unit is wet. Please try the steps below.

a. Disconnect the cord from the alarm unit.

b. Open the battery cover and remove the battery.

c. Blow dry the battery compartment and the socket of the alarm device where the cord is plugged in.

4) It only makes quiet ticking sound instead of an alarm sound.

If the alarm makes a quiet ticking sound, the battery is most likely dead. Please replace with new Alkaline batteries.

5) The sensor doesn't work.

If the sensor doesn't detect moisture, it may be caused by dirty sensor. The sensor needs to be cleaned regularly to maintain its sensitivity.

6) The armband fells off easily.

The length of the armband is adjustable. Please follow the instruction manual to install the armband so that it is securely attached to the arm.

7) The device does not wake our child from sleep.

It is very common that a child may not respond to an alarm in the initial stage of alarm training. As soon as the alarm goes off, parents need to help their child wake up. Gradually, the child will be trained to wake up on his own.

8) This item is not useable with diapers or pull ups because the sensor clip tears the material.

The sensor should be clipped onto the underwear. Diapers or pull-ups can be worn over underwear.

11 year old Finally Finds Success

11 year old Finally Finds Success
I will start this review by saying that the previous reviews were critical in helping us stick with the process and ultimately in making this experience a success which is why I wanted to add a review and share our experience. The child who underwent this treatment came to stay with us for awhile due to some challenges at home. When he arrived he had been wearing pull-ups at night for years and would only occasionally have dry nights. After doing some research we decided that an alarm would be the best support/intervention and I ordered this alarm based on the simplicity and positive reviews. While I had read the directions and personal anecdotes I was not fully prepared for how intense and iterative this experience was going to be.The alarm worked exactly as promised, when wet it goes off. The noise and the vibration work well. The variety of sounds was useful too, especially since one of the sounds didn't seem to effect him as much as the others. The problem we encountered was not the alarm but the child keeping the alarm on. The plus side of having an 11 year old do the intervention is that he could snap the alarm on and off on his own, which I could see being hard for little hands and fingers. However, he was also taking the alarm off at night because, well, he could. This lead to the treatment needing to go on for a longer amount of time. We tried to reason with him and celebrate when he would keep it on, but often in the middle of the night he would take it off for whatever reason and then would wet the bed.The plus side was that there were a good portion of nights when he kept the alarm on long enough for it to go off and stimulate his brain and body to get up. These nights led to him being able to get up and go pee when he needed to, before wetting the bed, and also staying dry longer through the night. The final and longest hurdle was staying dry through the final morning hours.Once he could make it through the night he was mostly wetting the bed early in the morning. Then it moved to him waking up at his normal hour while wetting the bed, which was accompanied by "the dream". The one where you think you're on the toilet but you're not actually. This last phase was hard because he would stay dry all night and then in the last moments of the morning it would happen, and he would have already taken off his alarm during the night. We tried adding an alarm clock to wake him up earlier, but that didn't seem to help. There was one point in week 9 when he had kept the alarm on all night and then he began to wet the bed, the alarm went off and he woke up quickly and finished in the bathroom. This was the last day he wet the bed. It seemed as though he just needed that final alarm to go off in the morning.Around week 6 we had 7 dry nights in a row and he was convinced he didn't need to wear his alarm. As we were working on him taking responsibility for his dryness we told him we supported him and let him make the choice. That night he wet the bed and felt really disappointed, like he had messed up the progress. We told him what was most important was that he believed in himself and that he kept working at it.The attitude and positive self talk was a huge part of the work. Initially he would say that he was broken and that there was just something wrong with him which was why he couldn't do it. We started saying some phrases every night before bed to help combat this and create new habits, "I can do this", "when I wake up in the morning I go to the bathroom" and "If I have that dream I need to tell myself I am not in the bathroom". We also started doing a meditation at night to calm down and stay positive. It took 10 weeks to stay dry. He has been dry for almost a month now. This was a lot of work, but totally worth it. There was a lot of sleepless nights for me waking up to make sure he woke up or make sure he was still wearing the alarm. There was still a lot of laundry and purchasing of pads to keep the mattress dry (we used a plastic sheet and the pads). We talked about pee A LOT. We didn't want to sweep anything under the rug or make him feel ashamed. We talked about how urine moves through the body, how our brain works when we need to go pee, and we celebrated every dry night or if it wasn't dry that he at least kept his alarm on.This alarm helped this kid achieve a goal that had seemed out of reach for so long. Once he made it through the 14 days he told him mom that his body just decided it was done wetting the bed.Sticker chart: We used it. He was motivated by seeing the progress and it was a useful tool for talking about the process and seeing the growth, especially on those days when he regressed. The stickers had different meaning throughout the process which helped us focus on what was important at different times.Rewards: We tried to motivate with rewards. While they kept him engaged at the beginning, they became less important later in the process.Waking with the child: our rooms are right next to each other so I didn't sleep in his room with him but I was able to hear the alarm if I kept our doors open so that I could go and wake him up when it started going off and get him to finish in the bathroom (very important part of the process)The right underwear and placement: Athletic material did not make for great underwear and the placement of the alarm was really important. He used cotton boxer briefs and it seemed best when it was placed on the front flap.

5.0 out of 5 stars This alarm works!
Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2021
My 10 year old son had been a constant bed wetter ever since he was little. He never made it out of pull-ups at night. We have tried everything you could think of: prescription medicine, physical therapy, cutting off liquids at a certain time, waking him up in the middle of the night, making him change his own sheets, etc…nothing worked! I started looking into something different and was extremely discouraged for myself and even more so for him. He wanted to have sleepovers but wouldn’t go because he didn’t want to go through the embarrassing moments of having to put his pull up on or having the boys hear his shorts rub on the pull-up or even more embarrassing, waking up and smelling like pee.

I started looking at alarms and found this one. Yes, there are many more expensive ones and I thought about ordering those but this product had great reviews so I decided to order it and try it.

The alarm was easy to use and directions were clear. The alarm itself is extremely loud but the volume can be increased or decreased. The vibration also helped wake up my son as he is a very deep sleeper. The sensor picked up even the slightest amount of wetness and went off right away. The first couple of nights, I didn’t sleep in anticipation that the alarm would go off. It did, twice each night. My husband and I would jump out of bed and wake him up. After about the fourth night, my son was getting out of bed on his own and beating us to the bathroom. After a couple more nights, it went down to him being wet only once each night until after the 9th night. After the 9th night, he’s been completely dry for the past 11 nights with the last two nights not wearing the alarm at all. I know we may have some hiccups as time goes on and his body continues to get used to waking him up to go to the bathroom but this product has seriously helped so much with his confidence and feeling better about himself. My son, before trying this would never wake up and go to the bathroom during the night. We are finding out two things from using the alarm with him-he will wait her go all night with no accidents or he will wake up and go to the bathroom and then go back to bed, accident free!!!!

A couple things we tried: the first night, we put on his underwear, clipped the sensor on and then put a pull-up over the top. We only did that for one night because it was too tight and uncomfortable when he slept. Next, we just had him sleep in his underwear and I bought waterproof bed square pads that are washable. They are very handy and extremely easy to just throw in the wash and be ready for the next night of sleep. We also slowed his drinking down, especially at night. We didn’t cut him off like we did before but reminded him that it was getting closer to bed so to not drink too much. We want this to be realistic and know that there will be times when we can’t remind him of this though.

If you are hesitating or need to try something new, try this product! It has brought back our happy son who is so excited to have a “normal” sleepover.
