Great Hardware, Crappy Software/Drivers
4 Stars
Great Hardware, Crappy Software/Drivers
This is a very competent scanner when the software allows it to work, which is about half the time. I was on the verge of returning it until I tried using VueScan as a driver/UI for the device. The standard Canon drivers (tried many versions, both Mac and Windows 10) and software cause the scanner to lock up. You must unplug the scanner and force quit the software. This occurs 50% of the time and is very frustrating. There are other nitpicky issues with the software (its ugly, unwieldy, lacks basic configuration options, sometimes crashes on install) but those are minor in comparison.I've attached some photos to show a quick sample of how the scans look. I used VueScan (a generic scanner driver/UI) to scan these. I'm not an archivist for the Ansel Adams Society but the quality is up to my somewhat high artistic standards.
