Epicurean understands the relationship between the products we manufacture and the environment we all live in. Epicurean is dedicated to creating long-lasting products that are manufactured with sustainable manufacturing practices and made from environmentally conscientious materials like recycled paper, plastic, and FSC certified papers. Epicurean products are fabricated using materials that gain their natural look and texture from the organic contents that comprise them. Each color is composed of a set of fiber sources layered together and pressed along with a food safe resin to form a sheet that has unequaled food preparation properties.

Our story

In 2003 Epicurean was founded by custom skate park manufacturer TrueRide as a way to repurpose excess skating surface material used by the company. The founders of TrueRide knew of the history of the surface material in commercial kitchens, so creating a line of home food prep surfaces from scrap was as natural as, well, skating on it. They knew the wood fiber composite used in skate park ramps was durable, non-porous, and dishwasher safe. It had been used in commercial kitchens for years. TrueRide skate parks last for years outdoors with extensive abuse from both weather and skaters, so you can be sure your Epicurean product can handle even the hardest working kitchen. Today, Epicurean cutting boards, kitchen tools, and utensils are at the center of everyday life for both casual cooks and seasoned gourmets. Our signature products are still made from the same natural, organic composite that made Epicurean a household name.

I kep our knives shrpened with the Asian angle so they stay super sharp. However when I read about these cutting boards I wanted to see if they keep the blade sharp longer. Too early to teel yet. BUT, I can speek to two other worries I dad. a) where they really dishwasher safe ? Answer YES. B0 do they show cutting makrs easily? Answer NO. I also was concerned the great dark grey/black color would only be on the surface and cut marks would reveal another color underneath. So I called either Sur la Table or Williams Sonoma (sorry can"t remember) and the great sales rep told me they use these at their demo table and they are the same color all the way thru. She seems to have been correct. These are absolutely my new favorite cutting surface.

The Prep Series Cutting Boards By Epicurean, 3 Piece Set in Slate arrived quickly and were easy to unpackage. The first thing I did was wash them in the dishwasher, of course, because they are dishwasher safe. When I opened my clean dishwasher, everything inside smelled funny, almost like burnt plastic. I narrowed it down to the new cutting boards, so I recommend washing these separately for the first time. Overall, I like the cutting boards, enjoy that they are "green" and made under responsible foresting standards, and I recommend this product for easy, low maintenance household use.

These are great cutting boards. They are thin and lightweight and work for my purpose. I use the largest as a surface to iron my t-shirt designs on with. It takes a temp. of 350 degrees, and that is the temp. of a wool setting on your iron. It protects a plastic table from warping, and is easy to haul around.

Here it is, my first negative review.

I wanted to love these boards so much (especially since my previous boards were friggin' awful, and needed to be trashed immediately), I gave them many chances, and they have continued to fail me. I thought splurging on some nice boards would allow me to use them for many years, but these cutting boards are downright disappointing.

.....Cutting to the chase - the boards smell TERRIBLE, and continue to do so for...how long? After how many washes? I don't know, I've washed them numerous times by hand and dishwasher, and still, they smell like chemicals. The odor is so strong that it tampers with my smell and taste of the food I'm preparing. It actually hinders my ability to test my own food. One reviewer has stated that the smell is transferring to her food, and I am waayyyy too afraid to sniff my veggies to find out if I have the same issue. I would be horrified if my peppers wreaked of chemicals! Aside from the stench, the medium-sized board has warped after day two! WHAT?? I had read somewhere that Epicurean customer service is telling people to wet the board and lay it flat - according to one review, this seemed to work after 15 hours...I'm still waiting for my board to return to it's flattened state. Epicurean claims that these specific boards made from the compressed wood fiber should be able to withstand all sorts of things, and boasts the great quality of the product (and a lot of their products are great!), but for the money and the claim, these boards are leaving me feeling very upset and confused. I am extremely sad to have to return these. I wanted them so bad.

I noticed reviews for other boards claiming to be Epicurean. These are the real thing. I already owned a large tan one and needed a few different sizes. These are perfect. Epicurean did a great job with this wood blend material. And the smell mentioned by other reviewers was minimal and went away after a wash with hot water.

I still think they're very good and am buying a second set, only because I had put the first set through the dishwasher a few times and now they're bowed. I wish the manufacturer didn't advertise machine wash safe, they are not. Otherwise I like them and they're cost effective.

I added the black set to my 8 year old brown set that has seen heavy daily use and are still going strong, I just needed a few more to avoid washing while cooking I like to be able to just grab a clean board- If you find yourself going through those crappy plastic cutting boards and hate washing wooden boards by hand, these are the answer to all of your problems!
