I am writing this review because I know so much research is done for finding the right carseat for your child/car, etc. that you feel SAFE purchasing for your child! In our minivan, we have Diono Radian RXTs for both our kids. We don't ever take them out and absolutely love them...but they are almost $300 (yikes!). For my husband's car I have been looking for a car seat that was A) Still very safe both rear facing and forward facing B) Affordable C) Narrow and not super bulky and C) could adjust easily to my 3 year old and 1 year old. Look no further! This car seat is extremely well made! My favorite part is that you just move the head piece up and down to get the correct location for the shoulder straps...that is super handy when you have to switch a car seat to different size children! I love that is fits tiny babies up to 65 lbs and surprisingly the seat is pretty narrow! You could probably squeeze 3 across, although I haven't tried! Installation and removal is easy, although, I use the seat belt instead of the latch because it is easier to remove quickly that with latch...I've read a lot and actually using latch doesn't make the car seat more safe as long as you secure it correctly with the seat belt...so that made me feel a lot better :) Anyway, I got the Contender 65 for $119 and for how much I love it, it is DEFINITELY my top suggestion when people ask me for an affordable convertible car seat! Hope this helps!

We have only been using this seat for a couple months, but so far it has been great. My husband had no trouble installing it, and it feels much more secure than our infant carrier seat did. My son was about 6 months old when we started using this seat. He could still fit safely in his carrier seat, but we rarely used the carrier feature because it was too heavy and he seemed like he was getting too big to be comfortable in it. Since we have transitioned to the Contender, the only time he has cried in his car seat has been when he was tired.

The features I enjoy are:

-Compact size (for a convertible seat): We had no trouble fitting this seat behind the driver's seat of my 2005 Chevy Cobalt. I am 5'7" and my husband is 5'9" so we don't have to put the driver's seat extremely far back, but it may be able to go back farther (I haven't tried adjusting it).

-Ease of use: I have absolutely no problem unbuckling the chest clip on this seat. I think Graco may have changed it due to the previous complaints. It is very easy to get my son in and out of this seat.

-Adjustable headrest: I love how easy it is to move the headrest up and down, and the fact that the straps move with it. No unthreading and rethreading needed when your child grows! We still have the headrest at the lowest setting but I have tested it out and it is extremely easy to adjust.

-Cupholder: My son is still learning how to use a sippy cup so we haven't actually brought a cup with us in the car yet, but I plan to in the future. We currently sometimes use the cupholder to put small toys in.

I did a lot of research when looking for a new car seat, and I am very happy I settled on the Graco Contender. It was recommended on a car seat tech website as being safe and long-lasting, which are both extremely important to me. I plan to use this seat for several years and so far the quality seems like it will hold up with no problem. I did get this seat when it was on sale so it was a great deal- if you are just starting to look at convertible seats you may want to wait and see if it goes on sale again, but even at the regular price it is a good value.

Perfect carseat for toddlers that grows with them and is very comfortable for children

Appearance:
The color that we purchased was very attractive and looks just like it does in the picture. The white cushion can be removed for easy cleaning. It is rather large, so if it is placed rear facing in an average sedan, the front seat cannot recline or scoot back very far.

Quality and Features:
The seat cushions are soft and fit our child nice and snug yet allows room so that he is not cramped. That is one of the benefits of it being large. It is versatile because as your child grows, you can adjust the headrest up. The seatbelt buckles centrally at the child's groin and there is a secondary buckle placed at their chest for maximum support in the event of a crash. The strap shown at the bottom front of the seat allows for tightening/loosening of the seatbelts so the child can always be perfectly secure. The seat feels sturdy and doesnt wobble in our cars. We've used it in a sedan, a van and a small suv. You can place the seat both front and rear facing. There are instructions clearly printed on the sides to guide you when installing the seat. There is also a meter that shows you if the seat is level and properly placed.

Overall we are satisfied with the carseat after testing it out for a few weeks now. We feel like our child is safe in it and most of all he is comfortable in it. We recently went on a 10 hour drive and he didn't fuss much-- a true test of its comfortability!

Very easy to install. Adjustments are as simple as can be. I read some negative reviews about space for this in the back seat? I'm not sure how any vehicle wouldn't have space. It fits behind my wife's passenger seat in her Honda CRV with the front seat adjusted the whole way back and reclined to a reasonable angle. I'm 6'3 and 330 lbs and I can still sit in the passenger seat comfortably. We bought 2 of them, mine is in my '16 crew cab ram 1500. It fits perfectly in their too. Strapping my little man in is also easy. I can see how someone could complain about how hard you have to pull on the latch system strap to tighten it. I'm certainly of above average strength and I had to give it a decent tug. It was certainly easier in my Ram than the CRV, because I had to crawl in the driver side door to pull the strap from the middle of the vehicle, and the back seat of the Ram is much roomier. It seems to be very well built and the padding looks comfortable. They carry this model at my local target and Walmart stores. I looked at them in person before buying, but they were about $20 cheaper on Amazon at the time.
