I was tired of using a canister vacuum and really wanted a cordless vacuum. What I really wanted was a great vacuum but in a smaller package. This is it! I don't do any large purchases without ample research. I spent months researching many different types of vacuums. I had my heart set on a Dyson cordless but in the end decided to go with a corded vacuum. I am really glad I found this one. The cord is long enough to where it's not bothersome and the Machine is quite lightweight but it is extremely powerful. It is not your typical handheld dustbuster on a stick. This is a legitimate vacuum cleaner.
The canister has a two separate filters that are removable and changeable. The output air is very clean! The main part of the vacuum looks like a very large Dust Buster. It can be broken down into a handheld, but it's too heavy to be used for very long as a handheld. The two men attachment nozzles sit Snugli on the front of the machine making them easy to use and store! The floor cleaner head is easy to use and picks up debris on the floor exceptionally well! It's profile is short enough to reach under furniture. It has a very good turning radius. It also has 3 different settings that are easy to change (in 2 spots): Off, Low, High. On low you can go over short pile rugs and on high it picks up pretty much everything it runs over.
I think this is the best of all worlds! I am very glad that I didn't buy a Dyson cordless because I would be irritated with the charging wait time. This vacuum cleaner also holds much more in its bag, and I prefer the bag to a messy container that you have to clean out each time you use it!
The only negative thing I have to say is that the floor cleaning attachment head does not allow for the machine to stand at a 90 degree angle. This means that the best way to store the machine with the floor cleaning attachment head on is to hang it from a hook. Otherwise the little adapter plastic piece might break. And replacement floor cleaning heads are close to $100. I am very interested in getting the hose attachment as well but that is also quite an investment at close to $100.
All in all this is a great small upright vacuum cleaner that can be used as a handheld in a pinch. For me it just hit everything that I wanted. I am extremely happy with this!
Edit: 1 year later & still loving this! No issues! Best purchase! Bought 2 for friends! I am still in love!
I wanted a lightweight vacuum to quickly vacuum up the dog hair in between thorough vacuuming with the Miele canister. I personally do not care for bagless vacuums so I was trying to narrow down the choices to just bagged vacuums. Since we have so much tile, I also was skeptical that a cordless vacuum would have enough charge to cover the whole house. Besides, the cordless vacuums, like the nice Sharks and Dysons, were substantially more expensive than the Miele Swing. A corded vacuum, and one that did not have a carpet-head brush, seemed ideal.
The Miele Swing seemed to be the perfect choice upon seeing it online; a bagged small vacuum for quickly vacuuming up the dog hair once or twice a week. I was concerned by some of the poor reviews here on Amazon, but since there were quite a number of reviewers who loved the Swing (and it seemed on paper to be exactly what I wanted), I purchased it along with the Miele Parquett Twister head.
Unfortunately it turned out to be a very poor purchase and I cannot believe Miele made such a poor product.
First the positives:
-It has a very long cord. I could reach all 2000 square feet from two outlets.
-The Swing is clearly well-made and it sucks very well while remaining very quiet. Not a trace of dust seems to escape it.
-It has a fairly large, quality Miele bag.
There is one negative that unfortunately overwhelms the positives: this thing is monstrously heavy; so much so it makes it unfit for most purposes. It is so heavy, you really should not use it with any vacuum head except the one it comes with. The parquett twister head cannot be used. The Swing is so heavy, it crushes the bristles of the brush head to the ground and makes it completely unusable, in addition to damaging the brush head. The head the swing comes with has a large roller near the nozzle, which was different than the otherwise very similar head my Miele canister vacuum came with. (See photo)
Clearly, the roller is clearly needed just to support the ridiculous weight of the Swing and hence, limits you to using just this one nozzle head. That creates a substantial problem. Because of the roller, it is difficult to change directions with the Swing and makes it impossible to move the vacuum with its head sideways to fit into smaller spaces, unless you physically support the weight of the vacuum. The nozzle is also much narrower than the parquett twister I hoped to use.
The weight of the vacuum makes a 'quick' vacuum of the house much more tiring than using the canister vacuum, completely destroying my justification for purchase. I don't know who would ever use this vacuum with the included upholstery and crevice tool; carrying a 10-11 pound vacuum with a crevice tool!?
I really do not know for what customer Miele designed this for as it seems to do nothing well. Unfortunately, for my purposes, it was a $200 mistake.
