I ordered this F181 after receiving the Holy Stone F180C (listed as "Holy Stone® mini RC Quadcopter with 720P Camera,4CH 6-Axis Gyro 2.4 GHz"). The F180C was nice at first, worked great, but the propellers broke easy even with the basket attached, which wouldn't have been an issue and I would not have returned it because they give you 8 extras. The real issue I had with the F180C was the power wires and battery harness. The battery was hard to get in and out, and the last time I went to take it out the black wire came off the circuit board rendering it useless. I could have taken it apart and re-soldered it, but it was brand new and I foreseen it happening again with its existing design, you can see the circuit board and wire connections when you take the battery out which I did not like. I did some research and found some reviews on YouTube, also posted here on Amazon, which showed the F181 and how it has its own closed compartment, and another plus, a power button which even my $200 Dromida Ominus FPV doesn't have. I then ordered this F181 from Holy Stone, and returned the broken F180C.
I ordered this F181 so that I can mess around without worrying about breaking my Ominus FPV, and try to get better at the controls. So far I love it, I haven't even touched my Ominus since I got this F181. This thing seems undescructable, at least the propeller cages in place. I've had this thing drop down on clay ground, and cement, from 30+ feet upside down, and it still got up and flew like a champ. It's very easy to control, and will hover still for the most part, maybe little control here and there. I have broken 2 of the propeller guards and ordered the replacement kit, but if you have seen the falls I've done with this thing you'd thing it would have been junk by now. Even though I have ordered the new guards, I haven't even replaced the broken ones yet, I simply adjust the broken guards so they aren't touching the propellers, and send it back up, but I'll replace them in a week so that they don't burn out the motors. Another thing, I've burned out 2 motors on the Ominus so far, one from a bad crash, but the other simply from grass stopping the propeller from Spinning, but with the F181 I've had it stuck in trees with branches in the way of the props while running to free it, but even though the branches were in the way it didn't burn out the motors. Instead it just it cuts power to the motors and starts blinking unit reset which is another thing I love about this thing.
As for the flips, I've used the auto flip (top right trigger button followed by direction on the right stick) and it does well when it's about 20+ feet up, otherwise it seems to come down and bounce off the ground, and the feet are springy, so when I say bounce it literally bounces, sometimes I lose control, but gain it back quickly. I'd say it drops about 3 feet during a spin, but then goes back up, but for some reason, maybe my own fault for lack of throttle, if I'm maybe 15 to 20 feet or lower it always comes and bounces.
I have not used the call back feature in a large open area, and I've only tested it about 20 to 30 feet with low altitude, mabye 10 to 15 feet up. I have it hover, then hit the call back (right button on the left direction cross pad), it starts beeping and then comes at me. I haven't tested it much, so I can't rate it on the call back, but with my experience it seemed to only come to me when its back was to me, not facing me, but that maybe my misunderstanding, so when I take it out in a wide open field to test, I'll update this review.
Controlling the F181 is easy too, I haven't used it in powerful winds, but in the wind we have here in Southern Cali, it handled great. Another note, it is closer to the size of my Dromida Ominus FPV than it's predecessor the F180C that I had, so it's not really a house quadcopter, but you can try I guess. The F180C about half its size I'd say, so it was okay to fly around the house. In my house, we have ceiling fans in every room, and during the summer months without an AC they are running almost 24/7, so needless to say, the F180C got batted a few times.
All in all I definitely recommend this to an RC quadcopter beginner, as I am, and really to anyone who wants one. It's a beast and you will have a lot of fun with it without worrying about it breaking.
The good: Drone hovers flawlessly and is extremely maneuverable which makes it a great drone for the beginner. The drone has multiple power settings allowing you to practice without fear of crashing because of speed. Battery life is as expected for a quadcopter in this price range and comes with an extra battery and charger.
The bad: On one occurrence while flying the drone it seems as if the gyro somehow gets upset while hovering and would just send the drone flying off into a random direction without any input from the control and become completely uncontrollable and would either fly into something and crash or would just fly in one direction until the battery would die hundreds of yards away. After reading the instruction manual again and decided that maybe the gyro may need to be calibrated and went through the process and the next few flights were as planned and successful.
The second time it happened with my son in control it just decided to fly over 500 yards in one direction and crashed into a tree line on an adjacent land owners property requiring my son to get permission to enter private property to retrieve his drone
The next and last occurrence the following day I had the same uncontrollable flight but only this time the drone flew straight up and almost completely out of sight before taking a sharp right hand turn and literally flying until it could not be seen anymore, we did try to estimate where it may have come down at based on the altitude and slight wind that we had that morning but recovering it proved to be unsuccessful and was a loss for my son as it was his Christmas gift. Why this quadcopter would fail to respond to remote control input is beyond me, it's like it becomes possessed and the remote control becomes useless.
This proved to be an expensive gift after losing the drone because I had to buy another one for my son and I am happy to say that the second drone that I bought (same model)to replace the lost one performs extremely well but now we are afraid to fly it outside and only fly it indoors.
***UPDATE***
I would like to say that Holy Stone has the best customer service, they sent me a free replacement drone to replace the one that flew away and could not be recovered. I have had about five months playing with this one and agreed to modify my original review accordingly. The replacement drone seems to perform well with a few exceptions. If the drone makes contact with any terrain or other features then the gyro seems to get thrown out of balance causing erratic flight characteristics, so for now if it bumps into something I land it as soon as possible to recalibrate the gyro and all performs well after that. The issue that I had in the unit that was lost with the remote failing to respond is no longer present and seems to work as it should.
Thank you again Holy Stone for replacing the lost drone.

This drone has a lot to offer for the price point. Its extremely fun and easy to fly. I would definitely recommend this drone to a beginner that wants all the great features but doesn't want to spend a lot of money.

Although the camera doesn’t come close in quality to the Hubsan’s 720P camera its not too bad for a toy grade camera. Sometimes you get the jello effect and it has a hard time focusing but I was surprised when I realized it recorded sound too. The quad itself is exceptionally stable. A slow yaw rate and smooth flight control make this a great filming platform. With a 4 speed setting and removable plug in/out camera this quad is versatile to suit whatever flying mood your in. Its not the fastest of drones and the flips seem a bit lazy but the precision and smooth, stable control make it an ample quad.
The transmitter feels great. Small comfortable size, takes 4 double AA’s and it has a little LED status screen. The control sticks have a nice grip for thumb flyers like me and the buttons are labeled. Yeah! Holystone also put the red LED lights on the back of the quad. Double Yeah!! The quad also has a front blue LED bar headlight which really helps with orientation. I was also surprised to find an extra battery, 2 charging cables, 4GB memory card already in the camera, extra screws, props, pinion gears and more. Holystone really put a nice package together.
The bottom of the motors and gears are exposed. This makes it easy to clean. I use a tooth brush to clean the gear teeth and to remove any debris that may be binding between the pinion and the main gear. It would be nice if there were removable covers under the motor and transmission to prevent debris from getting in. My only other complaint is that the yaw rate is the same in all 4 speed setting and the camera quality is poor. You do get some decent pitch in the top speed setting but more experienced flyers may find it not aggressive enough with not enough punch. It took 3 flights to get a decent flight time. I was getting 8-9 minutes with the camera removed. (perhaps the battery needed 3 charges to reach full capacity?)
I highly recommend this drone to any beginner. I love the stability, precision and its ability to handle light winds. HolyStone is doing it right. With the best customer service I have experienced, and exciting, quality drones packaged with all kinds of extras.

In terms of performance, fun, and durability, this thing is great. Out of the box you have everything you need to get going, even the screwdriver to attach the blade guards and landing gear (I have a bunch of these now but beginners will appreciate it). Flight times have been great and with a second battery included I’ve not had to wait long to keep on flying. However, on that note, do make sure you give the quad a bit of a rest between batteries to ensure you don't overwork things, especially if you’ve been flying hard. The altitude hold function has worked flawlessly allowing the unit to hover at a stable height and the feature remains one of the must have capabilities of any quad in my book. It makes it much more enjoyable not having to worry about keeping the quad height stable and dealing with pitch. It's always nice to have one less thing to worry about especially if you’re freaking out while about to fly it somewhere you wouldn't want it to be, like into a tree. No one likes having their flight time cut short due to a small mistake ending in damage to their quad, but should that happen, Holy Stone has you set and includes most of the spare parts needed for basic repairs should you happen to crash the unit and should you need it, Holy Stone has some of the best customer support I’ve ever experienced. Since the first pair of Holy Stone Predator quads I bought back last year I’ve had the same person from support help me should the need arise. Now that is an experience extremely rare to have from a company these days. It has given me the confidence to buy Holy Stone products without worrying the company behind them won’t be there for me should I need help.
All-in-all, it's another great purchase from Holy Stone and delivered by Amazon's great One-Day shipping. This beast would make a great Christmas gift for… well, anyone! If you really want to spoil them and keep them flying, grab an extra set of batteries while you’re at it and some extra blades, I’m sure they’d appreciate it.
Oh, and bonus. it has standard JST connectors for the battery which opens up many more possibilities for what the largest capacity you will be able to stuff in the belly of this beast.

Yes, this unit came with several extras. The quality seemed to be there. Unfortunately it simply did not work properly. Perhaps I received a dud. I don't know. But after the experience with this horrible product and ultimately the treatment from Holy Stone, I just simply can not endorse the product or company.
Since then I have purchased another drone from another company and it works flawlessly. Can you say SYMA anyone? I can now enjoy weekends with my sons flying our drones. Thanks, Holy Stone... for pointing me to another company that has products that work and treat their customers with care. Be forewarned, people... stay away from this unit and company.
