As soon as I opened the box I knew something was wrong. The instructions that came with the tester showed signs of being wet and had rust stains. After removing the instructions from the storage case I noticed that there were no calibration chemicals for the tester. I tried the tester anyway to see if it work. It turned on for a little bit gave out a 7.3 for hard tap water and then shut off. The tester looks like it needs calibration right out of the case, which I cannot do since there are no chemicals with it.

I received the meter very promptly and have already used it a few times. Calibration was easy especially by watching a Youtube tutorial and it appears accurate when I compare meter results against a liquid ph test. I will stick with the meter as a sole source tester for ph. It is very easy to use and seams to give reliable readings. I have ordered new ph powder for future calibration. This is definitely a good product at a great price with great customer support by the vendor.

As those of you who bought this meter from Risantic probably know you received an email from Rich Riley prior to it arriving thanking us for buying his product and to let him know if we had any problems with the meter. I thought this was a nice touch but as we all know saying and doing are two different things. Well I received my meter and I was trying to calibrate it. Water got inside the meter and the meter was ruined. I was going to just let it go but I kept thinking about the email Rich sent me and decided to let him know about the problem, not really expecting much. I emailed him at 7am central time and within 10 minutes he answered. He apologized for the problem. Said it was probably a defective meter and refunded my full purchase price and sent me a new meter free. It arrived in 2 days. This one is working well. It is so refreshing to see someone that really knows how to treat a customer. He went way above what we are used to and what we have come to expect from companies that frankly just don't care. Thanks Rich.

I have had three of these Meters. The first two lasted approximately one-year each, not bad given the price of the meter. Ordered a third meter and could not calibrate it to 6.86. Meter wanted to calibrate to 4.01. Remixed Calibration solution twice, I am positive I used 6.86 packet and was very careful in creation of calibration solution. Sent Meter back and received a replacement--same problem, meter would not calibrate to 6.86. Company provided a full-refund. So in my experience, good vendor with "not-so-good" product.

So far so good. I have used this periodically for a month to check the pH of my spa. As I'd hoped, it is a whole lot easier than using indicators and appears to be more accurate. Obviously I cannot comment on its longevity. My one complaint is in regards to the sparse instruction set for the initial calibration. IMHO they could have used another paragraph or two to clearly show the methodology, maybe even some diagrams - particularly for the higher pH calibration. Once that is accomplished (even with confusing instructions it only took 30 minutes), using the meter is a snap. If the device lasts, and I've no reason to expect otherwise, I'd probably rate at 5 stars.

Won't calibrate. Cycles from zero to 32 pH, then repeats the cycle endlessly and never settles upon the pH of the solution. It's cheap enough to be considered a throw away for short term use.

If you look at pH meters, on Amazon, you will see this exact model many times, but branded under a different label. In fact, this thing is probably made in one Chinese factory and labelled under many different importer names.

So, treat it as junk and you'll be happy. If it works (most will), fine. If not, keep exchanging it until either you find one that just happens to work, or Amazon stops allowing the exchange. If that happens, go to one of the other labels that has the same thing.

I have a spa and was getting tired of having to look at the colored strips and try to determine what shade it was. Plus, I was tired of having to buy strips so often. I found this meter for just a little more than the price of the strips. Thought I'd give it a try. The first time I used it I knew I had made the right decision. Stick the probe in the water and in a second or so it gives the exact PH number. No trying to decide if that color is indicating low, or high or just right. It is very easy to use, and the company has contacted me by email to make sure I was satisfied and to let me know I could ask them anything about the meter and they would answer and help me any way they could. So all in all this is a buy I am very glad I made. The product and the company are excellent and if you are tired of buying and using the test stripes like I was I would urge you to purchase this meter. You will be very happy you did!

We had a more expensive one that lasted about 22 months. Because of the good reviews and lower price on this, we switched. We liked its speed and ease of use, but we disliked the very confusing directions -- especially for calibration. (Too bad that companies skimp on instructions!)

Even worse, this one has died after 4 months. We tried new batteries, recalibrating multiple times, giving it a rest, etc. It got erratic over a week or so, then became impossibly intermittent and inaccurate. Even if they refunded our money, I wouldn't get this again -- it's not worth the hassle of having to deal with it going crazy and dying in a matter of a few months. We're going back to the more expensive one and hope you can learn from our experience.
