REALLY REALLY Easy, about 20 minutes total, reading VERY slowly and carefully the quickstart guide and just following simple instructions to set it up wirelessly to my home router. A HUGE improvement over prior Canon and HP printers I've had in the past. Really requires no configuration by you - you dodwnload a small application file from the Canon web site (instructions are in the quickstart guide that comes with the printer), and it walks you through every step with pictures of what buttons to press and what to click on - really could not be more simple and clear. You do NOT have to connect this by USB first, so there is no reason for you to buy a USB printer cable (unlike many other printers that require one for setup).
APPEARANCE , FUNCTION - great - see pictures. small and beautiful. Sure the glossy finish can get fingerprints - but who can see them on a black device?
LED touchscreen - bright and clear, perfectly sensitive - never misses a touch command. Well worth it to pay the extra $$$ and have a BIG 3.5" diagonal screen, rather than earlier models with smaller or B/W screens. Touchscreen controls - great! My 11 yr old daughter, while I was not home, just walked up to it and made copies for herself without any instructions at all.
Scan quality - High quality, just what I would expect. No criticisms. Takes about 15 seconds to scan a photo - another 45 seconds for it to load up on the computer screen for editing.
STABLE: cannot agree with another review - my printer does not shake or rock at all - suspect any shaking for other people would be due to whatever they have it mounted on. Mine is really quiet and stable.
VERY QUIET! seriously can barely hear it even when printing a photo and I am right next to it. It also has a quiet setting you can enable, but which I have had no need for. Nice to know it's there if you wanted it - but no need for me to make it more quiet than it already is.
SPEEDY - There can be no criticisms here. This is GREAT compared to all my prior inkjet printers in the past 20 years - I've had about 5 prior printers, and this is wayyy faster than any of them, including the Canon Pixma MP980. Here are my results:
Time to print high quality photo borderless 4x6" glossy from Android phone app, wirelessly - by NFC contact : 60 seconds
Time to print high quality photo borderless 4x6" glossy, by Android wirelessly, (through network, without NFC) : 40 seconds
high quality print 4x6" glossy print, from PC, using FastStone Image viewer : 52 seconds
Text printing: full page black text, standard print settings: normal 8.5" x 11" page: 6.8 seconds (yes, less than 10 seconds:
All those times are measured from the time you hit the ENTER key, not the time the printer actually starts printing.
HIGHEST QUALITY PHOTO PRINTS: the real reason I bought this.
You could not ask more for quality prints. These are perfect, the same as would have been printed by a photo lab, when using high quality settings, and Canon OEM inks, Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II. Although I was also very happy with my prior Canon MP980, this is even better in quality.
SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS:
Improved Canon scanning, driver, and photo print applications make it easy for you to make a greeting card, print your photos, or scan documents, including making a multi-page PDF from several pages of scanned documents. One click and it gets done. Very big improvement compared to older Canon software.
If you like to print from Photoshop or Lightroom, you'll like the ICC printer profiles that are installed with the print driver. There is both a quality 2 and quality 3 level profile included for my favorite paper, photo paper glossy II.
AUTO ON/OFF - REALLY NICE FEATURE
you can change this yourself - I have it set to shut itself off after 1/2 hr automatically, but it WILL turn itself on as soon as a scan command comes from my phone or any computer in the house - means that when the printer has been OFF all night, you're upstairs and want to print something, just do it - the printer 70 feet away, downstairs will turn itself on and print without errors. That is really amazing.
CONNECTIVITY: have had no problems with the printer dropping signals. Have only had the printer 4 weeks, but have used it extensively from multiple computers on my home network, from tablet PC and from Android cell phone throughout the house. This includes printing by accessing the home network from more than 70' away from a powerline network access point. Have never had it drop a signal.
PAPER FLOW /CAPACITY:
Two trays are present. In tray 1, I put 25 pages of photo paper 4x6" - runs perfectly. Canon says it holds only 20 sheets, but I've had no problems with 25. Might even hold more but haven't tried it. This is nice because I don't have to load paper every time I print - if I'm printing a photo, it automatically selects the photo paper. If I'm printing a document, it automatically chooses the 8.5x11 plain paper. Having two trays is a MUST, so you don't have to switch paper when you print.
Tray 2, I load with standard printer paper. I put 120 sheets in at a time, fits great and haven't had a misfeed yet. Canon says it can hold 125 pages, which seems about right - above that would not fit in the tray properly. Can't see how any home user would need more capacity than these two trays hold.
Also has duplex ability - I leave it set to off by default, but nice to know it's there when I want to save paper. Whenever you want duplex printing, you can just choose it in your document application under print settings - no need to touch the printer to do that.
CANON ANDROID PRINT APP
I don't go for a lot of flashy nonsense stuff, but this app is more than a piece of fluff just to sell the printers to suckers. It really WORKS. if I take a good photo on my Samsung Galaxy S4, can just start the app on phone, select my photo, print wirelessly to the printer, from anywhere I can access my router. You do not have to use a computer at all. Same with documents - print right from my phone with no hassles. Also can SCAN directly to my phone, without even having to turn on a computer - that comes in handy too.
SUMMARY:
Whole family can scan and copy, without turning on a computer, without having to read a manual.
Fantastic, highest quality photo prints - you cannot do better.
FAST printing - as noted above. For text, is as fast as my office laser printer. For photos, better than expected. About 40 seconds for 4x6.
QUIET - REALLY QUIET (and that is when NOT using the "quiet" setting, which is available).
Nice Android app to do stuff from your phone without even turning on a computer.
AUTO-On/Off - really a life saver - no need to jog around the house to turn the printer on ever again.
I'd MOST HIGHLY recommend this to anyone - I seriously doubt you can find a better printer for these purposes, without spending $500 or more. In my usage, I haven't found a fair criticism of it yet. Really not sure how it could get those few poor reviews when everything for me was quite effortless.
7/9/16 UPDATE
still working flawlessly for me. REALLY perfect high quality prints for my photos. Not a single problem has occurred in the 10 months I've used this, including printing from the other end of the house via laptop wireless. The printer just wakes up when I send a print command, without having to turn it on first. Couldn't ask for more.

The issue here is connectivity. Half of the time the printer will not connect to one or more of our laptops, we have an HP and two Mac's. We use our wifi for connection.
I have called their customer service a few times, who walk me through the process (after troubleshooting myself), they always blame my network at home, which has just been upgraded along with the rest of our building. We have no issues with it elsewhere, and have full signal on all of our devices: phones, ipad, 3 laptops... nevertheless they insist my network is the problem (yeah, it's easier to blame anything else rather than accepting their product might be flawed). We also upgraded our router to one that even exceeds our needs, along with a band width of 100MBPS (mainly because we thought this was the problem with the printer). The printer is 15 feet away from our router. We are still getting 50% - 75% of wifi signal strength, as read by the printer. My only thought right now is that the printer wifi port -signal receiver- is not working well (or whatever its called).
I also tried connecting my laptop directly to the printer's wifi (not going through our home wifi or router). No luck, it just doesn't connect well.
What a headache this is. So much time loss and frustration. Especially when it comes to using this printer/scanner as a work tool. I've spent so much more time troubleshooting than actually using it.
Besides that, the "amazing" bells and whistles might be nice for people who like to over-complicate simple printing and scanning, but for me these have just worked for the worse: even more jamming of the system and complicated, unnecessary steps. Marketing hype.
Other than that, it does print nicely, but goes through cartridges pretty quick - and they run $20 bucks each ( x 5 cartridges), so you're looking at a lot of money for a lot of problems. Bad deal.
Bottom line: Horrible connectivity issues, non-efficient ink cartridges. Company will blame issues on your connectivity, never on their product.
