How does Liquid Fence Deer & Rabbit Repellent work?

Animals instinctively stay away from certain smells and tastes. Urine from mammal predators, meat protein, egg solids and garlic all possess sulfur-containing compounds that trigger prey-response behaviors. Putrescent egg solids and garlic, both ingredients in Liquid Fence Deer & Rabbit Repellents, are highly effective in deterring these animals before they even browse treated vegetation.

Applying Liquid Fence Deer & Rabbit Repellents

It’s important to apply Liquid Fence Deer & Rabbit Repellent on dry vegetation – treating wet leaves or grass or treating within several hours of rain could cause the repellent to become diluted and affect its performance.

After treating with a liquid formulation, allow enough time for your treatment to dry before it rains in order for it to adhere to the vegetation. Drying time depends on your location and the time of year – in general, give this product 5 to 6 hours to dry.

A: Deer and rabbits forage year-round; you can apply these products any time as long as temperatures are above freezing. Q: I can’t smell my repellent anymore – is it still working?

We have had a bounty of bunnies this year, eating my flowers and vegetables. After they mowed down my lilies, I decided to act. The Liquid Fence is similar to "Not Tonight Deer" and other products based on rotten eggs. So the smell is not so nice, but I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly it dissipated - yet remained effective against the munchers. This was not the case with similar products I have tried. I applied it weekly for three weeks and now have moved to a longer time between applications. And the rabbits have moved on. They wander in, give it a sniff, and then head out. Yay!

This is the only product that works to keep deer from eating our plants. In our yard deer eat things they aren’t supposed to like! A quick spray down with this product and our plants flourish. Seems to deter them for about a month, but no worries - spray again and you are good! Easy peasy. The smell when you first spray is not pleasant but dissipates fairly quickly.
We’ve tried many products and always come back to this one!

You will need to buy an applicator in order to mix and spray this product; wear a nose plug or die. I bought a one gallon spray applicator at Menards (so I don't have to mix it any more than necessary.) The directions on the bottle are metric so you need to mathematically translate that info into ounces. I ended up using a more simple 1 to ten ratio (with a 1 cup measure), but I got that information from someone else's review and not the bottle. This is the one and only product that keeps deer away (and saves my beautiful hosta's) so for me, it's all worth it.

I sprayed all of my plants the minute I received the product. I sprayed in the early afternoon so the product would have enough time to dry and adhere before”deer time”.
