Don't do anything stupid and this trimmer will last forever. I will say, I replaced the head with an echo speedfeed head just because I love how easy those are to reload. Nonetheless, I use this thing commercially for hours on end everyday and it has far exceeded my expectations. Do not let the engine size fool you, this thing will cut through anything you should ever need. Notice commercial trimmers tend to use smaller cubic inch engines while residential brands and models tend to advertise 30+cc sizes. I use mine to trim and edge and it does an amazing job in any position. No fatigue when using it because it is extremely light. Starts always extremely easy on first or second pull. I haven't to this day had a problem with anything on it, everything has held up exactly as expected. It has been one of my best investments in equipment.

Edit: One year and one season later- still same feelings for it as listed above and still have never once has a problem with it. Great power, very little fuel/oil consumption. I love it.

More powerful than an electric - for sure. You might find one for the same price with a bigger engine - but it works fine for residential. They didn't include oil for the mix- and recommend 89 octain gas. The shaft doesn't seperate in two - and you have to install the guard - handle and head. They include the wrench for that. I would buy it again

This product was a total disappointment. I received the item, got the appropriate fuel, put the trimmer together, and found that it didn't work. At all. It wouldn't even start up. I spent a lot of time talking on the phone with Amazon representatives, obviously Indians from India, not just one, but several regarding the return. I got disconnected more than once. They got my name backwards. I finally was issued the return label to send it back. I just discovered today that while I was issued a refund, they withheld $39.99 for no reason in particular. I called, the representative said that she would "make an exception" and credit me the $40. This is not an exception. I paid a certain amount, the item didn't work, I should be issued a full refund, no question. It's not like I used it for two years, and then requested a refund. A nightmare of an experience. And, I still have no string trimmer!

Be careful when you attach the head containing the trimming line. When you put the allen wrench into the side hole to keep the internals from spinning, don't over tighten. It created a metal burr on the inside that kept the head from turning. After some good polishing with sandpaper and some WD-40 it finally started to spin/cut. Although this is the first commercial trimmer, be prepared to get pelted ALOT. It needs a bigger gard on it. Wear some pants. This is also my first bump feed trimmer and I had to take the head off a few times with the first tank of gas and feed it by hand. (Line was wound from factory.) Lots of power, light weight, well balanced, easy to start, and quieter than I expected.

We use these Tanaka trimmers for trail clearing. They're the best, by far, for the price. They're inexpensive, light weight, dependable and easy to start. They last longer, on a tank of gas, than most other brands/models, which is good when you need to hike 2 or more miles with one. They also vibrate less than the Husqvarna and Echo brands I have used in the past. Tune ups are cheap and easy too. I'd say the only drawbacks are 1) trimmer head only holds about 15' of line, 2) on/off switch seems to break after about 3 years of hard use, 3) not as powerful as some of the competitors. But if you use a good quality trimmer line, you'll find you can cut through most anything you encounter. This model was bought to replace a Hitachi (same trimmer) that died due to a scored piston and cylinder. Not sure if it overheated due to an air leak or was used with bad or straight gas, but it had 5 years and about 150 hours on it, when it broke.

Works great. A little vibration from the shaft but it does a wonderful job on thick weeds. Probably will order some type of shoulder strap to help cut down on the vibration in the arms.

Unfortunately,,, two try's and it was a dud. I bought one and it shipped quickly BUT, after only 4 uses, it would not start no matter how hard I tried. I sent it back and Amazon replaced it immediately,,,,BUT, the 2nd unit was weaker and had a very noticeable vibration so I returned it too for a refund. I stayed with my 5 year old unit and it still outperformed the new Tanaka. So,,, beware, and good luck
