After being frustrated with my previous frames inability to handle the number of pictures I wanted displayed (despite being well within the memory allotment – see below) I took a chance on purchasing this frame. The info online and reviews seemed promising, that this frame could display the thousands of family photos spanning generations as well as my photos from traveling. The 18.5” size seemed excessive, but this was one of the only frames I found that met my capacity requirements. After having the frame I love the screen and I don’t even bother to turn on my 10” 720p frame anymore.
Comes with:
1. Frame
2. 16 Gb USB flash drive
3. Power cord (not battery operated)
4. ring stand
5. Manual
6. Remote with battery
Setup:
Setup was very easy, I simple plugged the USB drive into my computer, opened the drive (via 'My Computer') and dragged the folders with my pictures into the window. There is a comment in the manual about not creating too many subfolders as it slows loading time - I have all pictures in 1 to 2 subfolders deep and have no issues.
It appears the frame can be hung/mounted/free-standing (via ring) in either landscape or portrait. Mine is in landscape as most of my pictures are in that orientation.
Unlike many other cheaper frames, whose processor/software limits them to either 500 or 1000 pictures, this frame holds thousands, I currently have over 9000 photos loaded (~13Gb of the included memory). This may seem confusing at first, all frames advertise memory card size, but regardless of memory card size many frames can only handle a pre-set total number of pictures. Often this number is hard to find. My last frame (10" Micca) could only handle 1000 pictures total despite being able to accept a 16GB card. I loaded 3000 pictures onto the card (for which there was plenty of room), but only the first 1000 picture are ever displayed, despite any randomization options. I do not know what the limit is to this Nix frame but it's greater than 9,000. I will try to update once I have attempted to load more than 10K photos. Additional there is a SD card expansion slot which I have not yet used.
Usage:
The frame must be plugged in to operate (no battery option). I have not yet tried the motion sensor, I simply turn the frame on when I am home in the evenings. The viewing angle is excellent: with the frame on my fireplace mantle and it can be viewed from sitting on the couch, standing, and positioned from both ends of the room (Images become a little less clear while sitting on the floor - if that gives you an idea of max viewing angle). The screen brightness is adjustable and can be changed via the remote to be appropriate however my living room is lit. The remote also allows rotation of pictures, for those few that somehow ended up in the wrong orientation.
The display order options are somewhat limited. The randomization is poor, despite having over 9000 pictures loaded I would see duplicates over the course of dinner. Currently I have the frame to play pictures in order to prevent seeing duplicates (*please NIX improve your randomization algorithm*).
The default setting for display is ‘optimal’ which stretches the pictures to fit the frame (and prevent the black bars on the sides of the vertical pictures). Even on landscapes the distortion is noticeable and for pictures of people it is excessive. Simple switch the frame to display as ‘original’ – you get the black bars on the size, but the pictures look great. My photos are a mix of >8 cameras from cell phones to scans of old polaroids to Canon Rebel SLR. All display well.
Summary:
Pros:
The image quality and viewing angle are excellent. Based on the current price the value is excellent.
The included 16Gb stick and indexing capacity are above what most users need (or any other frame offers).
The setup is easy and hanging methods are versatile.
Cons:
The randomization of pictures is sub par.
Why this frame? I wanted something that offered relatively high resolution, preferably wasn't WiFi connected (this seems to be a trend among recent frames, and while it could be the right choice for some folks, especially if you want to be able to add/update photos remotely for someone else, my view is that it's best to limit the devices you allow access to your wifi network), and that was reasonably priced. This seemed to check all three boxes and got good reviews.
I've used it for a couple week so far, so I can't really speak to durability, but can speak to picture quality and features.
Setup was extremely easy. I just took it out of the box, plugged it in, and inserted a memory card with some photos into the slot in the frame. The home menu has three simple options (play, calendar, and settings), so I hit play and was off and running.
I eventually adjusted some settings to set the date/time and sleep timer. While it has a motion sensor, since this was going on my desk (where it would be surrounded with regular motion all day), I didn't do anything with that setting. You can choose how long each image stays on screen, what transition is used to move from one pic to the next (including a shuffle option that shuffles between transitions), and what order to display the photos in (e.g. alphabetical, shuffle).
I didn't know it had a sleep timer, but it does, which is great. When enabled, this will turn on and off the screen at preset times each day. This is a good idea to help reduce energy consumption and (presumably) to help extend the functional life of the frame and screen.
The picture quality is very nice. For some reason, the different size frames have different resolutions: this 8 inch model is 1024x768, as is the 10 inch and 15 inch, but the 12 inch is 800x600, for example. I noticed numerous other frames are also 800x600. While not enormous, the difference in resolution creates a noticeable difference in picture quality.
Other features include a wireless remote control and calendar view, which puts a calendar on top of your photos - a nice touch if you're using it on a desk.
While I don't yet know how durable this frame is, it sure seems built to last. It's quick and easy to set up and use right out of the box, has good picture quality, has a nice set of practical features, and is reasonably priced for a digital picture frame. I'd recommend it.

Llego mucho tiempo antes de lo esperado!
A couple things to consider before purchasing/using. You must plug it in and it must sit on a shelf (as opposed to hanging it on a wall). It sits upright horizontally using a base that’s built in. Controls are built into the base which is handy for setting it up. It does come with a remote, but we haven’t had much use for it as of yet.
The device does not have internal memory, so your pictures are contained on an SD card or USB portable device. One design “issue” I spotted was the ports for the devices are on the back of the stand. No big deal, except flimsy SD cards or long USB flash drives can be broken if you’re not careful. One tip: get one of those stubby USB flash drives (called “ultra fit” on Amazon) and use it to hold your files. It barely protrudes and safely holds the viewer files.
