I chose this DeWalt because of the 3 speeds, and 3 LED lights. So far, it's done everything my Milkwaukee M18 Fuel driver has done. But I'm a DIY'er, and don't need to drive 10" lags into a 6x6.
This handles a 3.5" construction screw through a 1x, drywall and into the wall stud, very easily. Yet on power speed 1, it's manageable for my 9 yo son to drill holes and screw things in without feeling overwhelmed. This has been a pleasure to see, him working with power tools, safely. M18, even on speed 1, is too strong. Both drivers have trigger variable speed control too. I mostly use speed 2 on this XR.
DeWalt's 3 LED lights are superior to all else out there. There is no shadow. The point of attack is clear and bright. All makers need to copy this LED array. Just put your tail between your legs, and copy the LED lights.
The one handed collet is a joy. With one hand, pull the collet down, bit ejects a little and is released, pull bit out with same hand. LOVE IT, ONE HAND! My M18, no hands sometimes, as it does have the collet issue where it fails to lock, and bit falls out by itself, otherwise, use one hand to pull collet down, pull bit out with other hand. Not this DeWalt!!!
Also, this kit is great. Hard case, two batteries. Also, they are 2.0ah, instead of the cheapo 1.3 or 1.5's most cheap sales are associated with.
Again, the youtube comparison videos will help you with the rest of the decision making. I think this was a great purchase for me, to work alongside my M18 Fuel driver. I just wanted to highlight a couple features that I am enjoying more than expected.
1. This absolutely has enough power to tackle any job. I've used it to set screws in finished woodwork, and using the 1 "Screw" setting it sets the screw just flush, never too little or too much, but always just right. But I've done some car work and used it for lug nuts, old rusting bolts, you name it, and I bump it up to a setting of 2 or maybe 3, and it demolishes either getting the bolt of or back on, never stripping it with too much force. Its like it knows when the bolt is getting loose/tight and uses just enough force to get the job done right without damaging anything.
2. The battery life is like no other I have used. DeWalt has always been one of my favorite brands of tools, specifically for their battery life. It outlasts and outshines Rigid, Milwaukee, Makita, you name it, it charges faster, it last longer, and it is always reliable. I encourage you to look into how DeWalt manufactures/assembles their batteries! Most companies, including the other popular brands you see at home Home Depot or Lowes, use a daisy chaining method, meaning Cell 1 links to Cell 2 which links to Cell 3 Etc Etc Etc. So when you use it the battery pack drains Cell 1 then Cell 2 then Cell 3 Etc Etc Etc. When you charge it, it charges Cell in reverse order and usually end up not charging every cell in the batter pack fully. DeWalt on the other hand has done something unique by taking the time to do it right. Each cell in the battery pack is connected to the charge/discharge connectors and using technology that allows all of the cells to be used and charged at the same time. When you charge it, each cell is being charge evenly and fully. When you use it, each cell is being drained evenly. This is a major reason for the power, life, and longevity of their batteries, even wear even use.
3. Quality in the parts and manufacturing. DeWalt products just last a lifetime, always have and always will. Shy of spending 2x or 3x as much money on a Fest Tool, DeWalt will always be my #1. You just can't find the same care given to the design, craftsmanship, or parts used to assemble the tool like DeWalt puts into their product.
