NOT for HEATED FLOORS! Extensive damage !

NOT for HEATED FLOORS! Extensive damage !
I used to LOVE this mat. it is nice and thick and heavy duty. It protects your knees, it's nice and dence. Then we built an addition on to our home that has heated floors. The mat melted PVC goo onto the floor and left a permanent sticky redidue on the floor complete in Manduka's proprietary dot pattern! We tried everything to get it off. Dr. Bronners, dawn, Oops, Adhesive Remover, Mineral Spirits, Alcohol, and what finally worked was Acetone - however that and the sticky residue permanantly damaged our floors. We live in Minnesota and heated floors are common. They are just "warm" to the touch. You can walk barefoot, the dogs sleep on the floor. Nothing outrageous is going on. We keep the house at 68 degrees. Keep in mind that EVERYTHING we own is on the floors! Furniture, clothes, clutter, dogs and dog toys, shoes, and everything you can dream of in our teenage sons room. However, the only thing that ever melted onto the floor was this MANDUKA BLACK PRO yoga mat. I had a cheap yoga mat rolled up in our storage space the entire year and it did no damage. Whatever it is that helps the mat stick to the floor works incredibly well when heated up. We had to peel the mat off the floor and were left with this messy, sticky, residue. Oh - my teenage son borrowed the mat to do crunches so he left it rolled out for a few days! Also, the spot in the corner of the closet where I normally keep the rolled up mat, has a permanent black spiral on the floor from storing the mat there when not in use! Manduka were kind of jerks when I called them. So I am going to try a Jade Rubber Mat.

I have had mine for over a year and love this mat.
PROS:
Durable, feels like it will last for years.
Its got great traction, I never worry about loosing grip.
It pads my body so I can really go deep into poses without the feeling of the floor digging into my flesh. A must for those with knee sensitivity!
It gets softer with each use while maintaining its density.
Comes with a lifetime guarantee. Which means I will never need to buy another mat again!
Amazing for all yoga but especially Restorative and Yin because of the cushioning. If you are someone who is recovering from injury or illness this is a great mat for you. It will make you feel grounded and secure.
CONS:
Its heavy but aren't you on your way to yoga anyways?
Expensive: but this is offset by Manduka's Lifetime guarantee. I was going through mats every 3 months. this mat has paid for itself in this regard.
If you sweat you will slip. If you are a regular sweat-er or do hot yoga this is easily remedied with a yoga towel.

DO NOT BUY THIS MAT! I only leave 5 star reviews for everything (amazon, yelp, lyft, cp, etc) but I don't want anyone else to get stuck with this awful mat like I am so I am writing this for everyone to read -[...] so no one else will waste $100+ and the raw materials wasted to make it.

I salt scrubbed with various brushes and cloths, I laid it out in the sun as recommended by a few forums (there are dozens of pages of forums complaining about this mat), and I practice yoga (ashtanga, flow, hot yoga) at least once daily and I bought it in October 2015. Every single mat I've used (various rentals at studios, my outdoor mat, my cheap thin mat) do not slip nearly as much as the Mandkua Pro. I requested a new mat and was denied because I bought it at my local studio who will also not exchange it and claimed only Manduka can exchange it - so there definitely is NO 100% LIFETIME WARRANTY. We all know $100+ is extraordinarily high for a mat that isn't even green, fair trade, made in the us, etc so please do not support Manduka and their capitalism. Please buy something that supports the true culture of yoga instead of the facade. I'll be giving my mat away to a homeless person to use as padding because thats all its good for.

THIS IS THE WORST MAT I HAVE EVER OWNED!

I was very disappointed with this mat. It is the most expensive mat I have purchased in the 16+ years I have been practicing yoga.

The surface was slippery, despite treating it as recommended by Manduka. It compromised the quality of my poses, as I was constantly slipping or worried about slipping. Who needs that during yoga?

I was a little concerned by the bad reviews, but I've concluded that either they got bad manufacturing defects or they struggle to "season" the mat. Here's what I did that worked great (got rid of the slickness and smell).

Season
* To eliminate rubber smell and slick film
* Materials
* Kosher salt (pure, rock salt)
* Paper towels (4)
* Instructions
* Wet towel
* Put ~1 tsp salt on towel and rub into mat
* Repeat with additional salt every 2 linear feet
* Wait 15-25 minutes to dry
* Apply second coat with a new towel and similar salt
* Wait 15-25 minutes to dry
* Flip mat and repeat on opposite side
* Celebrate

Why 4-stars? Because even after all this and additional use / break-in, the mat can be slick on my hands during downward dog. I'm really hoping this will stop after more use, but the jury is still out.

I have only owned cheap yoga mats and for a full year debated on spending so much money on a mat but kept hearing how great this mat would be for me, so I finally bought one and after one yoga session promptly returned it! What a HUGE disappointment for such an expensive item. I have never slipped around on my cheap mats..but on the Manduka mat, I can't hold ANY yoga pose at all without slipping around. I was afraid of hurting myself. The girl next to me stopped me after Yoga class and told me that she too ordered the Manduka mat and is completely disappointed with it for the same reasons. She said she washed it, put it out in the sun for days, rubbed salt on it. She tried everything and she said she still slips around! It is also very heavy! Not sure how Manduka is getting all these great reviews- it's like the Land Rover of yoga mats- great look but terribly disappointing..if you buy this, you are paying a lot of money for the name and not for quality.
