I've used rotisserie to cook my turkeys for over 10 years with awesome results. The drawback to using that method is securing the limbs, putting it on the spit and cleanup was an unfriendly chore. So, for the holidays this year I decided to try deep fried turkey but did not want to stay outside babysitting when I needed to be inside cooking the rest of the meal. Did some research and found this improved model and pulled the trigger and ordered it with a little bit of skepticism. I've seen some reviews saying the skin was not crispy or food was sticking together or even cook times were longer then recommended. My response to all of that is they did not follow instructions. I fried a 15lb turkey in less than an hour that was room temperature, injected and rubbed with a little dry seasoning. The fryer took 35 minutes to heat up and I followed the instructions and the results were near perfect. So, from fridge to table took about 2 to 2 1/2 hours compared to 4 - 5 hours with the rotisserie. The skin was crispy and all of the meat was flavorful and juicy. The fryer did not make a mess on the counter other than a little water vapor and clean up was easy by disassembling the unit and washing the parts separately. This was a practice run and I will report any changes throughout the holidays.

I'm 4 turkeys in and everything is pretty consistent. The last turkey I fried was 18lbs and was a little over an hour to complete. I've noticed that you have to be careful with the dry rub if using it in addition to the injection, it may come out on the salty side. There was a little oil splatter while lowering the turkey this time but nothing major. I was in a different location so cleanup was a little more challenging because the kitchen sink was smaller. Summing it up I'm still happy with the results and as I said in the initial review... follow the instructions!

Not enough leftover turkey to make sandwiches.... so I just threw a 12lbs in the fryer without the fancy prep-work. I didn't even tie the legs and it turned out well.

Not enough leftover turkey to make sandwiches.... so I just threw a 12lbs in the fryer without the fancy prep-work. I didn't even tie the legs and it turned out well.
Unit works fine for turkeys, whole chickens, or thick sliced bacon. Bacon cooks in 110 seconds at 375. Thick cut. Yum!!!!
Thermostatic control works well. My thermometer showed it was close to right when it was at 350. The oil went from 350 to 250 when I dropped a 14 pound bird in. It slowly worked it's way back up to 275 while cooking. Because it doesn't have the heat input of a gas cooker, you should cook to the high end of the recommended time. I went to midway on the cooking chart for my bird, and there were a couple of pink spots in the legs. Nothing bad, just needed about 5 minutes more.
Cleanup takes time, getting all the nooks and crannies on the lid wiped down is a process. The heating element has some hard to clean spots, I used an old toothbrush. Don't dunk the plastic portion in the sink, and it is NOT dishwasher safe.
Oil draining is not bad, a bit slow. Still better than bailing out a pot of oil with a cup.
The lid does a good job of catching the steam and dropping the condensate into the catch pockets in the corners. Yes, they take a little time to clean.
I used mine on the back porch rather than in the house. There is a fair amount of steam that escapes, but I feel it could be used indoors without much effort.
Overall, a good product. Just remember to support the power cable so it doesn't pull loose.
This would make a great gift for someone who doesn't feel comfortable with a gas cooker.
