Update 7/29/18. Cleaner is nice but has two major problems. 1. Doesn't pick up harder items, ie gravel. 2. Cord gets continually tangled and does not untangle well. Will tangle up quickly again. Almost rendering the vacuum useless. Certainly is strange that something simple like a swivel cord connection wasn't added to such an expensive, top of the line machine. The no-tangle hassle in the advertising is a complete misrepresentation. Stay away. I liked mine when I first got it. Now I spend as much time untangling the cord as I do vacuuming the pool. The garbage about the programming not allowing it to tangle is a total lie.
My last Maytronics was the Premier....good unit lasted 4 years. Prior to the Premier I had a Polaris model with the tail and external booster pump. My father-in-law is partial to the Polaris cleaners and because my wife thinks he knows so much more than me, I was cowed into buying one. The Maytronic’s unit I had before the Polaris, I cannot remember the model, but for all intents and purposes the same as the Premier. I bought the Quantum because my daughter's twelve-year-old friends pulled my Premier's power supply into the pool. I almost bought another Premier but read about the Quantum and decided to try it.
The filters on the Premier and prior units are loaded by turning the unit upside down and extracting the filter bank after sliding two tabs with finger tips or at times with a screw driver because my dainty fingers can’t take pressure. After the filter bank was removed on the Premier, you remove the 4 filters from the holder by flipping 4 rotating clips and individually power spray each filter then reload the four filters into the holder by rotating the 4 clips, load the holder with filters in the robot, and finally re-engage the sliding tabs.
With the Quantum pull up on the lid latch with one index finger, pull the tray out, rinse the four filters still in the tray, replace the filter tray and close lid. Every once in a while I will, or might I don't know I am lazy, remove the four filters and individually power spray them, but I don't have to do it every time now.
The geometry of the Quantum tray with filters is a large volume 3-D trapezoid as opposed to the 2x low volume 3-D triangles of the Premier. I have a 50'x24' pool with 50k gallons and ? surface area which collects leaves as well as my wife's flower pots (at least once every single summer!). Anyway, the Premier gets clogged up and a sensor tells the system to prematurely stop. So I need to do the above recurrently until the job is done with the small capacity Premier filter volume repeatable stopping up. I had plenty of leaves in the pool today requiring three runs on the Quantum to clear, but he Quantum never stopped without completing its cycle. One pain in the butt avoided and each cleaning much easier than with the Premier.
The Premier has an anti-tangle swivel that the Quantum does not. However, the Quantum does not get tangled. I guess because the robot spins alternately clock and counter clockwise. Hence, no Quantum Entanglement …. Spooky action at a distance?
The Quantum also has a cool blue light on the front, which ostensible provides the Nav 2.0 AI with some visual info but I don’t care. The design features above are all I need. The Quantum robot could take a drunken sailor random walk on the bottom of my pool and I’d be fine. The blue light and sensor may provide increased efficiency over prior Maytronics devices, but for me the blue light is just cool and my lazy butt just wants to clean the dirty filters easily.
On a final note the Quantum is designed to be serviced by the owner. One of my life goals is to understand the General Theory of Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. Now thankfully with my new robotic pool cleaner I can be a Quantum Mechanic.
Cons: Does not cover all of pool surface in one cleaning cycle as advertised. I see no indication of it having "learned the pool", and it has favored spots that get a super cleaning, and some not touched. It has a love affair with the pool drain, even when the pool filter is not running, so need to buy a cover basket to keep it from getting hung up there. EXTREMELY heavy to lift out of the pool, and if its not angled just right, the dirty water runs back in the pool as it's lifted out. We have the caddy purchased because it's a lot of weight to lug around, and when stored, and if not using the $140.00 extra caddy, one has to turn it upside down for storage. I hope the caddy arrives soon. Also, changing from the fine mesh filter to the waffle filter is a royal pain. All four panels come out, and they are a stinker to get back in. I see that process wearing out quick, or else I give up and decide to just stay with one of the filters over the other. Instructions are minimal. I may be too critical, but considering it's high price tag, I was expecting it to be more efficient. Oh well, we are sticking with it and adapting.
