Arrived fast, well packaged, plug and play HDMI to video card. I used my old cable, but they provide one in the box. No dead pixels or anything like that. The stand is all metal and as a whole the monitor looks very sharp. I purchased this to replace a 9 year old 21" HP monitor that had served me well but was starting to get some dead pixels and bright spots. WOW, what a difference. I almost underestimated how huge 32" really was. Initially I had been holding out for an LG 32" monitor that was out of stock and priced at $200. My choices were wait 1-2 months for it to be back in stock or spend $20 more on a 'lower quality' brand. After looking at the reviews of this guy and seeing that a lot of stars were docked for having to manually wake it up from power saver mode (which I don't really care about) I decided to give it a shot. I get my 32" monitor now for slightly more and have the added benefit of checking out my first curved screen.
After a week, honestly the curved thing seems like mostly a gimmick (as I had read). It does add a bit of an immersion factor while gaming, but honestly that could just be the fact that I went from a 21" to a 32" monitor. It does add a nice 'cool' factor to your setup and less tech savvy people will definitely remark on it. I've already had a couple people go hardcore 'I WANT THAT'. You'll want to adjust the color settings and the like before making a judgment. They have a decent amount of presets in the menu but some will be more picky than me. I went with the gaming preset and am very happy with the colors/sharpness/etc. There's a good range of angle adjustment to suit your preferred viewing. Viewing angles themselves are great vertically and horizontally.
Some cons:
1. As close as you're likely to sit to this monitor, 1080p does start to seem a little lacking as far as resolution goes. If money isn't an option and you're getting up close to this size you may want to spring for QHD or 4k resolution instead, especially if your video card will permit those resolutions while gaming.
2. No built in speakers, so plan ahead if you're used to just using your current monitor's speakers for sound. Honestly, you shouldn't be. That's coming from someone who used them for 9 years with that HP and thought they were fine. Then I got a simple $35 Logitech system with 2 desk speakers and a sub... wow. I knew it would be better but was kind of flabbergasted at just how much. It really makes whatever content you're consuming immensely more enjoyable.
3. The monitor is a bit wobbly on the stand. Not a big deal, but I notice it when I go to manually turn it on after it goes into power saving mode.
4. Power saving mode. As a lot of reviews mention, if left alone for a long while the monitor will go into a hibernation that it won't automatically come out of (solid red light). You'll have to reach around back for the button to turn it on when you come back. Not a huge deal for me. I know some folks will hate it. It DOES automatically wake up from the 'first' sleep setting that it goes into before power saving(blinking blue light).
5. Backlight bleed. There's a fairly significant amount of it in my display. Unless the screen is totally black I don't notice a thing and it hasn't bothered me.
All of these things are minor in my opinion and do not warrant taking any stars away from what is a fantastic monitor at $220. I would have paid a bit more even. This is my first Sceptre product and a week in, I'm very impressed.
The picture quality is quite good, although some adjustments in the monitor and OS settings are required to achieve best results. Text looks crisp enough once ClearType calibration is done, and video quality is also decent. The 75Hz refresh rate gels very well with the MSI RX 580 while gaming, and there is zero lag. I do not have a problem with visible pixels while sitting 2 to 3 feet away. There are no dead pixels or noticeable bright/dark areas. The curve is pleasing without being distracting, and it makes gaming slightly more immersive - especially in dark surroundings.
The sound quality is OK, although since I use dedicated speakers/headphones, I have not really tested them. I did try AMD's Virtual Super Resolution, but it did not look very good. The bottom line is that this ticks all the right boxes for a gaming monitor at this price point. Do not expect extremely fine image quality or high contrast/color depth, and you will not be disappointed.
Whenever I would try to split screen in games with another person on the 23 inch monitor I had, we would have a hard time seeing what was going on, especially regarding distant objects. It was time to upgrade to a larger display. I wanted something large, but with the same 1080p resolution so I would not need to readjust graphics settings for performance. In the end, it came down to two options; the Sceptre C325W-1920R or the LG 32MA68HY-P. I went for the Sceptre since it was curved and a review for the LG monitor mentioned burn-in issues.
Here are some of my impressions:
+ The screen is not too large, and not too small. It fits my size requirements excellently
+ The curve isn't obnoxious. It's appealing when it comes to both the image and the overall aesthetics of the monitor itself, giving a premium vibe.
+ Nothing wrong with image clarity. Text and graphics are all clear.
+ Viewing angles are not as good as advertised, but still very good compared to a standard TN panel.
+ Price is very reasonable
- Ghosting is VERY apparent when compared to the Asus monitor I had. There is no obvious way to improve this.
- This is definitely not an IPS display. Colors are not as rich or accurate.
- It seems that this was an HDTV display stripped of its TV components and converted into a monitor. The fact that it does not support full range RGB input is evidence of this. (Make sure you have it set to limited RGB in your GPUs control panel settings, or else blacks will appear very crushed)
Overall, considering the price, I am satisfied with the display. I can live with the slightly worse color reporduction, but the ghosting issue is something I need to adjust to. I plan to keep it for a few years.
EDIT: 07/10/2017
I believe I have finally gotten used to the ghosting. It's not longer an issue. However, I did notice some uneven light passing through some parts of the display in odd shapes, probably due to the curve. It's only noticeable when viewing pure black or very dark images, though. I won't be removing any stars- it's still a great product that I am enjoying for PC gaming.
